The Recap for TNA Impact 6.25.09 from the Impact Zone in Orlando, FL.

- We open the show with a match!
New York City Streetfight: Brother Ray and Brutus Magnus fought to a no-contest via Sportz-Entertainment(tm) finish in 4 minutes. Match was going ok until Ray decided to get a table, but British Invasion and other foreigners attacked. Devon evened the numbers with a chair in hand and Kiyoshi took a 3d through table. It was just there to advance the feud. * on the PES.

- Lauren tries to catch up Angle in the back, but he's more interested in welcoming Joe to the show. Joe arrives in a nice car with his MYSTERIOUS driver, whom Angle shakes hands with. Big hug for Joe. Nobody has anything to say to poor Lauren, so they just ignore her and move onto more important things, I'm sure.

- MEM come down to the ring sans Sting. How is it that the damn women are still with them? Why can't someone show a teensy bit of respect for Sting's decision? However came up with the idea of letting Angle grow hair again needs to be silenced in the future. It just makes him look like a dork. Even though he might be going for the Randy Couture look or something. Angle introduces himself as the new TNA World champ and introduces the newest Mafia Member, Samoa Joe! Joe's music is now rappafied. SAMOAN RAP! Hugs and shakes for everyone. Angle calls his plan a masterpiece. He says he realized that Joe had to be signed up once he came back from the beating that the MEM gave him. He says Joe's price tag was a bit steep, but Jenna Morasca's millions took care of that. Angle says he made good on his promise that "everyone" will be celebrating at Slammiversary. There is a caveat, though, as Angle forgot to tell Sting. "What he doesn't know can't hurt him." Mick Foley heads down to the ring. He says Angle owes Sting an explanation, Joe owes AJ an explanation, and Foley wants Angle in a rematch at Victory Road. Angle says he's the one with power and he will choose his opponent, but Foley counters by saying that since he pinned Angle during KotM, he deserves a shot. Angle says if Foley wants a rematch, he has to put something on the line and that they would work out an agreement later. Well, well. The explanation itself (essentially if you can't beat them, join them) is simple and fairly logical, there are holes in the story and too little attention was paid today in light of the Angle/Foley thing. Plus we've got an Angle/Sting thing going on as well. A little unfocussed, but I feel there might be more to this to come.

- Lauren tries to get a word with AJ Styles now, but again no luck. Kip James points him in the direction of the MEM locker room when he asks where Joe is, and AJ is off.

- Tenay and West talk to JJ on the phone. Jarrett says it's time to resolve the Foley/Jarrett issues, but he'll do that next week in person.

- Hype video for Sarita, who must be "The Dark Angel" Sarah Stock who I've been hearing great things about.

Match 2: Kevin Nash over Abyss when Dr. Stevie tasered (tased?) Abyss in about 4 minutes. Sad match. Stevie attacked Abyss when Nash had the upper hand, which makes little sense. Plus the tasering looked weak. Match has Nash, and thus sucks. * on the PES.

- BEER! MONEY! head down to the ring to call themselves the greatest tag team in the world. Sorry, boys, the name's already taken. They call 3D legends in their own rights, explaining that at Slammiversary, Ray took his eye off the ball and that cost them. They say 3D can enact their rematch clause anytime, anywhere, but Booker and Steiner come down to confront them. Booker asks if they've ever heard of Harlem Heat or the Steiner Brothers. Steiner says that since MEM is calling the shots, it means Foley gets a World Title rematch, Nash gets a Legends Title shot, and Booker/Steiner get Beer Money at Victory Road. 3D come out to object, but Steiner silences them while butchering the English language to establish that it will be they who get the match at Victory Road. Ray says he's gonna make Mick and offer he can't refuse.

10,000 Thumbtacks Match: Taylor Wilde over Daffney via Tack-Planting in about 3 minutes. They could've hyped this match up to make it the big deal it was. Maybe giving it 2 weeks worth of hype and then another 5-6 minutes would've been productive. What we got, however, was mostly pointless, and I'm not big on hardcore Women's wrestling anyway. 1/2* on the PES.

- Lauren finally finds someone who wants to talk to her - The Beautiful People. They say "Tara" is actually short for "Tarantula" before an actual tarantula appears on Madison Rayne's shoulder, and you can probably predict the rest. So now Tara has mystical spider-control powers?

- 3D are with Foley in his office, bitching about how they did not get their rematch. Foley says it's simple; he doesn't give a damn about them. It's ok, though, because 3D doesn't give a damn about him! Wow, it's all going back to the third grade! Foley says we get Booker/Steiner v 3D next week and winner gets Beer Money at Victory Road. Ray has a wired baseball bat and looks appropriately MENACING, so Foley gets on his knees and begs them to take the match. Devon finally does. Borash, that little bitch, asks how Angle would feel, but Foley doesn't give a damn about that as well.

Match 4: Scott Steiner over Robert Roode via Backslide in 6 minutes. Okayish match. ** on the PES. What's sad is that it might be your match of the night.

- JB talks to Kurt Angle, who seems to be thinking along the lines of a mutiny in the MEM. He says he doesn't want to cross the boss, that being Foley. He says he's the godfather of the Mafia, not Sting. JB tells him that Sting is on his way, but Angle boasts that he doesn't answer to anyone. I like how Angle's become super-confident as soon as he has the title and some power.

- Borash is with Foley, stirring shit up. Foley says he's in a reconciliatory mood and he'll be open of mending relations with Jarrett provided JJ apologizes. He finally realizes that Sally Boy and Rocco need new shirts sans MEM logos. About damn time! Only took him a month, I think. Foley hits nutjob mode when Borash mentions Angle, however, which leads to quite a bit of high voices. I think it'll all be sorted out next week.

- Lauren talks to EY, telling him that none of his friends seem to know him anymore. He counters with the statement that none of those he thought were his friends are really his friends. LOGIC~! He says he's been around a long time being a court jester, and he's sick of it. Rhino gets in his grill about walking out on him in a preshow match at Slammiversary, so EY tells him they'll settle it next week and headbutts him for good measure. Rhino needs to take it easy; it's not like anyone really cares about a preshow match. Jesse Neal has wise words when he tells Rhino to bide his time, but Rhino is pissed, so Neal gets shoved into a wall. Oops.

- Lauern is with Booker T, who is apparently a 14-time tag champion with 4 different partners. Ok, I know Stevie Ray and RVD for sure. Was Goldust one? Who was the other guy? Sharmelle comes in to announce that it's gonna be her versus Morasca at Victory Road. Oh joy.

Match 5: James Storm over Booker T via DQ when Booker cracked him with a beer bottle in 5 minutes. Another ok match, which is supposed to build to something. While I'm ok with such matches, you can't have a show full of just them. *1/2 on the PES.

- AJ Styles heads to the ring for your Main Event Interview, and he's PISSED. He doesn't even know Joe anymore! He wants Joe to come to him like a man and face him. He wonders if Joe did it for the money. Well, everyone does it usually, but I doubt that is any solace to AJ. He says Joe screwed the company, blah blah blah. Most of it's so generic it's not worth typing again. AJ asks him who got in his head, but Joe says Styles can find out for himself at Victory Road. Joe is done, but Styles attacks him from behind for no good reason. Matt Morgan comes down and they hand him his ass, old-school. Daniels tries the save but gets killed by the remaining members of the Mafia. Sting in a PURPLE coat and GREY shirt (good god!) comes down to calm everyone and he's gonna TALK! What? Sting says he expected this from Angle, but not from Steiner, Nash, and Booker. Sting says they started the Mafia because of punks like Joe. He says rants against each of them, asking Nash if his son would like what his dad has become. Nash tells him that the honor and dignity plan doesn't work, but the money plan does! Sting tells him to take Sting out with the baseball bat. Nash pretends to hit the other members, but finally goes after Sting, but Sting beats him to the punch. Sting proceeds to wipe out the rest of the Mafia until Joe takes him out with the OTHER bat. MEM beat down Sting to close the show.

- End Show.

Wrestling Counter: 22 minutes.

--> OK, so this is one of those TNA shows which is truly love-it-or-leave-it. It's a fan's show, not a show to make new fans. It moves all the stories further, the logic behind both the Joe joining and the new MEM is without any noticeable gaps, which is certainly more than what I expected. It features precious little in terms of wrestling, and even then what was on display sucked. It's a solid thumbs in the middle for this show, not quite on the level of the Impacts during the build for Slammiversary, but not abysmal, either. ** on the PES.

Test! TNT held the WWE and WWE-controlled WCW tag titles.

He had on reign with Goldust (WWE tag titles), one with RVD (WWE tag titles) and the two aforementioned reigns with Test, so I guess Harlem Heat must have held the WCW tag titles 10 times.

I like the new MEM. Sting never really fit in and the explanation of money vs. respect makes sense. I'm still not sure Joe doing all of this just for money is that great but he can make a badass heel. Maybe when his advisor shows up they'll further explain why Joe is more interested in money than TNA. Only negative is if they make this more about Sting than AJ, which is entirely possible.

When Steiner/Booker came to the ring to challenge Beer Money instead of the British Invasion I groaned but their interview was great and the singles matches weren't bad. I just hope British Invasion gets a match with Team 3D at the PPV and they aren't left out of a Beer Money/Team 3D/MEM match. If they actually gave everybody equal time the tag division could be unbelievable.

Does that mean Matt Morgan is a part of the MEM now? What about Samoa Joe's "Nation of Violence" gimmick?

Wonder what the odds of Jesse Neal switching sides and teaming with EY will be? I'm digging EY as a heel.

I'm guessing Angle's back as leader of the MEM, right?

There are apparently plenty more spider-related hijinx in future weeks, according to taping results.

Maybe a return of ARachna-Man?

At least after over 20 years of people turning on him, Sting finally learned to bring his own bat when he suspects something is up.

Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.

Maybe he can give AJ some tips so that he learns these things before he's 40.

I'm not sure what happened to the Nation of Violence. I get the sneaky feeling that Joe is really playing us all and is the inside mole for the TNA guys in the MEM, who's supposed to break them up from the inside.

Yeah, Angle is definitely the leader of the new MEM. I liked the logic, too, it actually made quite a bit of sense. And I'm guessing Morgan is part of the Mafia as well, it seems, though I know nothing about the tapings.

If nothing else, I'll give TNA props for actually explaining wtf Jenna Morasca has been hanging around for. As for the actual explanation that Samoa Joe joined the Main Event Mafia for the money, I'm going to assume that it's leading to something else. As much as I hate the explanation, it seems too logical (or, at least, non-logic defying) for TNA. I'm hoping that Joe's using all this money that he got paid by the Mafia to bring in the Nation of Violence, hopefully in the form of Taz, Umaga and maybe Manu.

(On the other hand, there's also the fact that the next season of Survivor is set in Samoa and this entire thing could be setup to tie Joe and Jenna together in the lamest crossover ever, though Joe's Tweet upon hearing about the setting is possibly the greatest thing ever posted to Twitter. "Wait wait let me get this straight... Survivor Samoa?!? My family has been surviving there for years where's our million dollars. F%$# U CBS"

Actually, that makes Joe look stupid in my opinion. There have been indigenous peoples no matter where Survivor has gone in the past. The whole point of the show is if you can take Americans and make them live in an unfamiliar and uncomfortable environment. Joe only cares now because it's his people.

Oh, and I checked out the rest of his tweets to see if I'M the fool and the next musing from Joe is about how he hit a bird with a rock.

Velvet Sky said something like "Do you wish you were a spider so you could have more legs to open?" and i think they bleeped out the "open". It definitely sounded weird and I'm still not sure if I'm interpreting it right.

The image Joe gives of a relaxing Homicide was my favourite Twitter moment of his:

"well just to let you know how good it will be he's currently drunk on my Office balcony calling caucasian kids bitchass N&^%%!"

They beat Chris Jericho and The Rock in November 2001 for the WWF tag titles. They beat Kane and The Undertaker in September 2001 for the WCW tag titles. They lost the WCW titles to the Hardy Boyz. I think they lost the WWE titles to the Hardyz as well, but I can't remember. It was all shortly before the Dudleyz and Hardyz met in a unification cage match - won the the Dudleys - at Survivor Series of that year.

I'm as confused as everyone else when it comes down to Joe joining the MEM, but if the MEM has a change of attitude (from gaining respect to making money) that could explain it: he's a mercenary of sorts for his "nation of violence" and goes where the money is.

Just a thought. Either way, seeing Joe embrace the same guys he beat the living tar out of (Booker T and Steiner) was surreal. His first blood matches against them that week looked way too real for words.

One nice thing about the "Joe did it for the money" angle (besides, as InVerse said, tying in Jenna, which is very clever) is that Joe got some loud "YOU SOLD OUT" chants -- and one thing the Impact Zone is not known for is giving any heel heat to heels. So that worked out pretty well.

Yessss, the Neal/Young tag team is one step closer to happening. (Finishing move: "Hey Hey, My My [Into the Black]".) I'm more interested in this than I should be, considering it involves the three guys that are pretty much at the bottom of the "people in TNA I care about" list.
