I wonder though.. The Penguins (and thep ress) talked a lot about knowing what to expect now, as they've been there (the finals) before.
But this is a whole different animal. Beating Washington in round 2 isn't playing game seven of the Stanley Cup finals. The Cup is in the building and you are 60 minutes away of raising it. But if you lose you really do lose. Totally different vibe imo. We'll see how each team deals with that, because these Wings haven't been in that situation either.
It's so hilarious. Yesterday, after the Wings loss, people were excited about the prospect of winning the Cup in a Game 7 at home. This morning, Wings fans are calling in to sports radio and metaphorically peeing themselves at the grim possibility that Detroit could lose. Ahhhh, fandom.
When that shot went off the crossbar with about 2 minutes to play, I was thinking how surreal it would be for the game to end--and then for everyone to have to wait for a video review to find out if the Penguins had won the Cup or not. As it turned out, there wasn't need for a review anyway--people who had a better view of it than my TV gave me were already certain it wasn't a goal--but it certainly would have been a weird scenario.
Great save at the end to seal the deal. I was on the edge of my seat! GREAT series, GREAT team this year for the Pens. THey played tough hockey all playoffs long. Congrats!
That was the most incredible last second play I have ever seen, I think. The entire 3rd period was nerve wracking (hell, the entire game was), especially when Detroit made the inevitable goal to start to comeback attempt.
Congrats to Detroit for a great season and series, and congratulations to the STANLEY CUP CHAMPION PITTSBURGH PENGUINS! YES!

It's a nice thing and all, but if I have to hear that debate between Nova Scotia and Quebec over who invented the sport one more time... I think it's worth noting that I had the flu one Hockey Day and the cable hadn't been installed there yet.
