So, the similarities between last year and this year are becoming eerie.. but I still think Pittsburgh will find a way to win in 6 or 7. I hope so, anyways. They need to come out in Game 5 with the same aggression that they did tonight.. and Fleury needs to continue to outplay Osgood.

Uh, you don't read my posts, either, huh? I actually said I like this series becaues they AREN'T calling interference as often. Once again, for the cheap seats, I LIKE THE REFEREEING AS IS IN THIS SERIES. Sheesh.

I knew I should have put a smiley in there. When I wrote, "You don't watch the regular season either, huh," I was acknowledging that you don't like it when every possible interference penalty is called, ergo you must not watch the regular season (when interference is called way too much IMHO).

My humble apologies for the misunderstanding. I think the people accusing Detroit fans of whining about a reffing conspiracy has made me a touch sensitive. I love playoff hockey simply for the fact that WAY less penalties are called even though the same amount of interference goes on - it makes me respect how hard the players battle that much more. (Except Cindy and his pedo-stache )

I wouldn't, no. But I don't want to see a hugfest either. I think letting interference slide on (non-lethal) checks a few seconds after a player has moved the puck is fine; that's physical play, it's exciting. I like loose puck battles with some leniency, but the jersey/shoulder grab waterskiing stuff just rewards laziness, I think. And I don't mean that as a shot at Detroit, since Hal Gill for one has been as guilty of it as anyone since the series started. The biggest contradiction is that instead of encouraging the ultimate battle of wills, it encourages diving, since the only way to get a call under these circumstances is to sell it with enough exaggeration (culprits of that on both sides too).
That, and I secretly hope Pierre McGuire gets hit in the face with an errant puck while on camera in his little box. But your mileage may vary.
Oh, Pete is the worst. He's the great uniter. edit: Wait, maybe Milbury is the worst. Well, Milbury is a lot dumber than Pierre but Pierre makes me see blood.
Jeeeeesus. Regardless of what happens Friday, my hat's off to everyone in this thread -- the emotional swings that we've been put through have been inhumane.
Originally posted by lotjxFriday is it. I doubt the Pens will win, but at least they will not skate around with the Cup in the Igloo.
Unfortunately, I think you're right. MAF has been absolutely brutal in Detroit all series. But you have NO idea how relived I am that Hossa isn't going to get to rub it in everyone's faces at the Igloo.
If you're Detroit, would you even bother trying to fit Hossa in with an extension? 19 playoff games without a goal, invisible this series except for some hard work on the boards, totally living down to his playoff reputation pre-Pittsburgh. If the Wings win on Friday, they will certainly deserve it and all the best to them, but -- unless Hossa gets the ultimate nullifier Cup-winning goal in OT or something of similarly horrific super-irony -- dude is a total ghost who is trying to ride Z and Datsyuk's coattails to the Cup.
Did he ever claim otherwise (than riding coattails?)
I thought he pretty much said he went to Detroit because he wanted to win the Cup, and took less money than the Pens offered. So yeah, coattails it is.
Game 7. Sweet. Home team has won everything so far, so the Penguins have their job cut out for them. The crowd's gonna be insane.
Glad it's Friday so I can stay up and watch it in the night.
I don't think Detroit fans were hoping for a Game 7, but everyone is psyched up about it now that it's a reality. I heard yesterday that Detroit hasn't had a home Game 7 in any sport's final series since 1954.
What a shame for Pierre McGuire *coughtoolcough*. He said "the series doesn't start until someone loses on home ice." Poor guy has missed a fabulous 6 games thus far. Of course, that does his explain his clueless commentary.
Great series so far and a potentially epic 7th game on the way. Pittsburgh needs Fleury to play his best and they really need to pot the first goal of the game.
Regarding Pierre McGuire, I haven't talked to a single person from casual fans to hardcore hockey folks who would not punch him in the face given half a chance. I believe he's a smart man who knows a lot about hockey, but he's also possibly the most unlikable man on television.
If I wanted to punch a commentary in this series its Edzo who is always sucking Zettenberg's ass. I understand Detroit is good, but they are not Gods. If anything this series has proven they can be beaten. I just don't see it being done in game 7.
As for Hossa, I am so tired of hearing how noble he is for getting paid for less. Do you know he is getting paid $7.5 million which is what they are paying their top guy. He wanted out of Pittsburgh, because he was not well liked. This is not some taking a pay cut for someone to keep his job, he is still getting paid a chunk of change. And if I were Detroit paying him this much while he has been a ghost. I would get rid of him unless he comes up huge on Friday which is my great fear and even then I would probably dump for only showing up for one game out of seven.

And I am so tired of hearing how much Pens fans hate Hossa. If he was so disliked when he was there, why do Pens fans hate him so much now that he's gone?
Someone from Pitt called HNIC radio today to ask if they thought mcGuide and Eddie O were biased against the Pens because they had both been fired by the Organ-I-zation?
What a series thus far. The emotional swings remind me of Pittsburgh/Washington, but now with higher stakes. That's two amazing series' the Pens have been in this playoff year.
I know it's cliche, but anything can happen in Game 7. If I had to put money on it, I'd bet Detroit, but if Pittsburgh gets the first goal, or if Fleury is on fire, well - it's just one game. Who knows what can happen?
