The Recap for TNA Impact 6.4.09 from the Impact Zone in Orlando, FL.

- We open the show with highlights of last week, including Eric Young's heel turn. Lauren catches up backstage with Shane Douglas, who doesn't know who she is. Doesn't he watch Impact? She's practically on every 5 minutes! Douglas promises to make his mark on TNA for a long time.

Tag Match: Kiyoshi and Sheik Abdul Bashir over Daniels and Suicide when MCMG and Lethal Consequences dragged Suicide out AND Douglas hit Daniels with a can in 5 minutes. Poor Kiyoshi has to have help from *FIVE* other individuals AND some cheating from his partner to buy a win. And some really terrible referee-ing. Why was the heel team not DQ'd? In any case, match was a typical Impact Special(tm) and thus goes about **1/4 on the PES.

- Shane Douglas is in the ring presumable to explain his actions. He says he's been a TNA fan for a long time, and it pissed him off when Jeff Jarrett gave Daniels a second chance but didn't give The Franchise a second chance three years ago. He blames this on industry politics, but says he'll keep attacking Daniels till he gets his chance. He tells Daniels not to take it personally. LAME! So you start attacking a guy randomly because he got a second chance and you didn't? Three years ago? Couldn't TNA/Douglas/Creative come up with a better reason?

- Foley is backstage with JB. JB questions him about trying to change the "TNA Rulebook" to fit his 'One Defense A Year' theory. Foley retorts that he's open to defending the belt at four big shows a year, since the TNA Title "is not a menstrual cycle." Awesome. Cute Kip, no longer playing the character, walks up and says he needs work, and Foley promises to do something about it, though the times are "financially tight."

- Kevin Nash and Jenna Morasca enter the Foley Den, and Nash is livid at having a cage match tonight, thinking that Foley "must be high." Foley says to "do it for the ratings," but Nash is not buying that. Finally Foley convinces him to do it for four times the normal payoff. JB rightly asks about the times being tough, but Mick's all "times are tough...for Kip." Then they laugh it off like some evil maniacs.

- Backstage, MCMG and Lethal Consequences are with Lauren. Apparently, Sabin and Creed have Beer Money tonight. Sabin says while they might not see eye-to-eye, they will put their differences aside, just like they will at Slammiversary when they unmask Suicide. Creed says pretty much the same thing, saying that while Beer Money may be good wrestlers, tonight, he and Sabin will be flying.

Beer Money v Chris Sabin and Consequences Creed: All sorts of messy things going on here. Early on, they establish that Sabin and Creed are definitely not on the same page, and Creed refuses to cheat. Later they both go for a springboard move at the same time and hit each other. British Invasion come out but 3D cut them off. Sabin accidentally wipes out Creed with a Yakuza, so Beer Money win with the DWI in about 5 minutes. Interesting dynamic, but I fail to understand what Creed and Sabin gained from teaming up together, or how it helped achieve their ultimate goal of unmasking Suicide. Solid action, mind you, but the match itself was pretty non-sensical. Let's go ** on the PES.

- Back from the break, The Beautiful People are triple-teaming Tara (Lisa Marie Varon). TARA? That's a terrible name! Rayne accidentally sprays Sky, allowing Vicki (come on, I was having trouble calling her "Lisa Marie", and now "Tara"? Ugh. I like "Vicki" better, so screw you, TNA) to wipe both of them out. She threatens Angie, so Angie takes the safe way out before anything can come of it.

- Lauren is with Daffney, wondering if she couldn't just talk her problems out with Taylor Wilde. Daffney: "No, because I'm crazy!" Haha, awesome answer. Daffney says she has to hurt Wilde tonight, because "they" are telling her to do it. Oh great, another heel with voices in their heads. Reminds me of a Lewis Black joke, "If you don't understand the meaning of the word alone, the voices in your head might be other people." Of course, this was in relation with Bill Clinton, so it made it even funnier.

- Tenay does his bi-weekly sit-down with the MEM, who all have comments about Joe's hitlist. It goes a bit like this - Nash: I'm gonna walk out of the cage tonight, and get paid to do it. Booker: If someone hits at the Mafia, we hit back. Steiner: he's FAT! He's a fat son of a bitch!! Angle: Joe is going to get hurt. Sting: No one hurts Joe, we do things my way now. That results in another Angle fit, of course.

Match 3: Daffney over Taylor Wilde via the Moss-Covered, Three-Handled , Family Credenza(!) in 2 minutes after a Dr. Stevie distraction. For the uninitiated, that is the old Saturn finisher, and I know no other name for it. Match wasn't much, going about * on the PES.
Awesome banter during this match: Don West: "Taylor Wilde is the kind of woman you take home to your mother, then you leave her with your mother and you sneak out and go hook up with Daffney."
Tenay: "Where does that leave Awesome Kong?"
West: "Hopefully at your house."

Postmatch, the heels look to continue the beating, but Lauren comes out to pull Taylor out of harm's way. Raven says that this Stevie/Raven union is "Every wrestling purist's wet dream for the last ten years." Well. They promise to take out Abyss because he disobeyed the Doctor's orders.

- JJ comes out address the situation with EY, which is my dream scenario. He says he wants bygones to be bygones. He says that he gave EY the oportunity to burst into the main event last week, but EY didn't take advantage. The point is that JJ is willing to leave the incidents from last week alone, or he can go as far as Young wants to go. Young tells about JJ was a father figure to him and how he built TNA from the ground up. Young accuses Jarrett of building TNA around himself and neglecting his three children, just like Jarrett's dad neglected Jeff. That leads to a pull-apart, which we hadn't had for about two weeks and clearly the quota had to be filled somehow. I think during that pull-apart Hebner caught one from Jarrett right in the face. Young is ok as a heel, and it was a strong effort from him tonight. See, he's trying so hard to impress ya, Karlos!

- We get some video of Jesse Neal training, and he claims that training with Rhyno was tougher than military boot camp. He says he's gonna carry the spirit of Rhyno to the ring tonight when he makes his debut. Gee, that sounds like poor Rhyno's dead.

Match 4: Matt Morgan over Jesse Neal via Carbon Footprint in about 3 minutes. Squashariffic. Neal looked terrible, but maybe that was the point. Not too sure.

- Cody Deaner trains in "Bucksnort, TN." At "Cousin Leroy's house." Poor ODB has to train him to be a pro wrestler. Good luck with that.

- Foley heads to the ring with brand new security. He says Booker and Steiner will face Joe next week and a KotM qualifier will pit Angle and Sting against each other. He then says that JJ's actions have scared him and he will punish him for assaulting Earl Hebner next week, and it will be "Hardcore."

- Sting is backstage and promises a clean match next week, since he and Angle are professionals. He also promises that the Mafia is bigger than Foley and united, so Foley can't come between them. Morgan wants to be the newest member of the MEM and presents his victory over "Sailor Boy" as evidence. Sting takes offense, saying "Sailor Boy" has served the country for four years and Morgan needs to learn respect, and can come back once he learns it. I don't think Matt Morgan has any business being in the Mafia, to be honest.

- JB is with Scott Steiner and Booker T. They have a "Nation of Violence First Blood Match" with Joe next week. It's basically a gauntlet first-blood match. Steiner will start, and if Joe gets past him, he gets Booker. If either of them bloodies Joe, they win. Steiner promises to stick an apple in his mouth, because Joe's "a FAT PIG!" I love when they let Steiner talk.

- Just before the match, Joe is talking to his "advisor." Oh great! I thought I wasn't gonna get a chance to say INTRIGUE~! this week.

Lethal Lockdown, King of the Mountain Qualification: Samoa Joe over Kevin Nash via pin after a Hockey Stick Shot in about 9 minutes. Okayish match that did a nice job of making Joe looking like a dominating badass. Still, maybe I needed a bit more violence here to really have it feel like "Joe just took out Nash! Shit!" We'll go ** on the PES. After the match, Joe says "Nash is done." They should totally have him carry a paper and cross names off an actual list.

- End Show.

Wrestling Counter: 24 minutes.

--> A pretty middling show here, that does a decent job of moving all the key stories forward without doing anything offensive. The strong Young promo, the rebuilding of Joe, and the good promo work from Foley is enough to carry the show, especially when there's nothing so horrible that it drags it down. The action was largely forgettable and a couple of the opening matches were nonsensical, but apart from that, this is a decent show. Let's go **1/4 on the PES.

If I remember correctly, the move is a swinging fisherman's neckbreaker, but I might be remembering wrong.

Two quick corrections: You said "can" but meant "chain," and you said "Douglas" but meant "Ricky Gervais."

Really? I thought it was pretty good. It's better than Plan B, which I would assume would involve Douglas invoking the Twinkie Defense.

I surmise they're teaming up to get used to working together so that they can more effectively gang up against Suicide at the King of the Mountain Match at Slammiversary, the participants of which are MCMG, Lethal Cons, and Suicide, and which is where, specifically, they're planning to do the actual unmasking.

You know what the best part of this was? It was the shot of Sting massaging Kurt's shoulders, with Kurt looking like he's about to explode. (Close second: Steiner yelling "he's FAT!" for like the third time.)

Daff and Wilde might be my two favorite Knockouts right now. I want to see a longer match between them; this was fine but short.

Eh, I saw him live earlier tonight, and at no point did he look out at me in the crowd and ask me how I thought he was doing, and what might he do to make the match more enjoyable to me. I REMAIN UNIMPRESSED. (Also, he was working as a face -- huh.)

His outfit sure didn't help. I wonder if for some reason TNA doesn't want us to see his extensive tattoos -- not All-American enough? But they let him wear his lip ring, so I dunno.

Speaking of trying to impress me -- you forgot to mention that Foley's security detail is Rocco and Sally Boy -- hooray! They're back! Their shirts still have "MEM" monogrammed on them -- have they not changed their shirts this whole week? Geez, guys.

I finally figured out why I hate Joe's pants so much -- it looks like he's wearing jodhpurs. They should just give him a beret and a megaphone and rename him "Samoa B. DeMille."

I thought this was a good show. Maybe not great, but the only thing I found uninteresting was the Jesse Neal match.

I liked Foley's line about the menstrual cycle. I also liked it a few minutes later when he explained to Nash that he took out his anger on Nash and that he believes Freud calls it transference, to which Nash replied, "I don't care would Freud calls it, I call it bullshit."

I thought the Shane explanation was OK. I heard (not from a reliable source necessarily) that Shane's angle is eventually going to be that he is now the old wrestler that he once made fun of in his younger days. That could be interesting, still don't know about him wrestling though.

I hadn't noticed Joe was fat until Steiner pointed it out. Thanks Scott.

Nash went down pretty easy, I thought. The last shot seemed so middling of a hardcore spot that I was surprised when Joe got the pin.

I meant Impact, but if you mean the house show, I enjoyed that as well. Here's a quick rundown:

Suicide vs. Daniels: The winner would go on to face AJ Styles for the legends belt -- this ended in a 15-minute draw, resulting in a three-way later in the night. No one could quite get their finisher in, and the match ended with a series of near-fall rollup reversals.

Crowd was split between Suicide and Daniels, but I think a little more towards Suicide (at least from where I was sitting).

Taylor Wilde vs. Angelina Love: Angelina Love decided that she wouldn't defend the belt unless Wilde could beat Velvet Sky. Wilde won that brief match with a rollup. Angelina was up next and stalled a lot and then kept pulling Wilde's hair. Earl Hebner told her to stop and Love started stroking Hebner's hair, flustering him considerably. Wilde won with the Botox Injection, just KILLING Taylor with it, who had to be helped out the ring afterward.

Crowd wasn't "for" Wilde so much as it was against the Beautiful People, but it felt to me like a sort of good-natured heat, if that makes any sense -- like, "Oh, you girls are bad!"

Eric Young vs. Matt Morgan: Crowd LOVED Young, who was playing face here, as I mentioned. Matt Morgan was being a total dick, playing to the crowd (including getting down on his knees [to make up for the height difference] and challenging a fan to come into the ring) and got a lot of heel heat (second biggest heel reaction of the night, I think).

Eric Young did the "Point at Morgan" -- BOO! -- "point at self" -- YAY! -- thing for a while and then did some comedy stalling, sliding between Morgan's legs and such. He tried to get Morgan up for the Death Valley Driver, but ended up clutching his back and staggering away. Morgan got a Catatonic (Chris Harris' former finisher -- a swinging slam) but didn't hit either the Carbon Footprint (boo!) or the Hellevator. EY finally got him up for the DVD for the win.

After the match, Morgan got in an "argument" with a fan before making his way to the back.

AJ Styles vs. Daniels vs. Suicide: Oh, man, this was a blast. As good as I'd expect a TV match between these three would be. A lot of "one wrestler rests" sections but some fun three-way stuff as well. They did a little flying out of the ring. Styles hit a nice Pele but no Superman Forearm, and ended up winning with the Styles Clash on...Daniels, I think?

Team 3D and Jeff Jarrett vs. Beer Money and Abdul Bashir: All these guys got great reactions from the crowd. Bashir got the most heel heat of the night, with "USA" chants aplenty, which he egged on by staring down a guy in a camo army uniform in the crowd.

The faces played to the crowd a lot, including JJ & 3D doing a three-way Jarrett Strut. James Storm was hilarious, doing little dances and a martial arts demonstration (which ended with a Three Stooges-style eye poke). Storm and Roode almost got into a fight after accidentally ending up in a "compromising position" (doggy style!), but they ended up hugging instead (crowd: "Brokeback Mountain!").

Match ended with Jarrett helping Devon lift Bashir into a 3D through a table. Interesting that Bashir is a low-card guy on TV but a main event heel on house shows; perhaps the anti-USA stuff plays better in person that it does on TV?

After the match the crowd chanted "Thank You Jeff" and then the faces gave away signed bits of the broken table to an adorable little kid with "TNA" shaved in the back of his head, and also to the aforementioned army dude.

Then they did in-ring photos with Team 3D (yeah, I got one) while Styles, Daniels, Wilde, and Young signed stuff. They were finished by the time I got my 3D photo, although I literally bumped into Styles outside the ring -- he is not very big, as it turns out.

Jeremy Borash teased a PPV coming to the area in the future, but he probably says that everywhere. I think I'd go if it happened, though. I was happy with what I saw but sad that I missed out on Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe (who is injured), MCMG, and Jesse Neal. I wish there was a more organized autograph signing deal, too, because I bought a program but only got Earl Hebner's autograph.

I hadn't seen Saturn's finisher in a long time so I thought I'd compare and contrast. It's fundamentally the same move, but Saturn does it more like a suplex and Daff does it more spinny (at least in these examples). They both bridge into the pin, which is always appreciated. (Here is another look at Daff, where she totally flubs making the bridge but wins with it anyway.)

You need to pay less attention to Ryan Byers and more attention to Mike Tenay! The Professor told us that it's "The Lobotomy!"

(It also used to be, of course, "The Thrilla from Wasilla," but I forgive you if you blocked that out.)

Hey! The only thing I got from Byers was the spelling of the move. I used to think it was "Gredunza" and not "Credenza" and hence never got the Cat in the Hat reference. I think I tend to block out Mike Tenay most of the time. There's something about him that just makes me ooze indifference towards anything he says/does. After checking Daffney's Wiki page, I do see it's "The Lobotomy," but come on, the "Moss-Covered Three-Handled Family Credenza" is a 100x better name. Especially since it's essentially the same move.

Oh, and a big thank you from the deepest caverns of my heart for reminding me about The Governor. How could I ever repay you?

I think Saturn did more of a spinning neckbreaker as well, but that particular one was just not so good.

The first person I ever saw perform the move was Kanyon, and he also performed it better than anyone else I've seen do it.
