TONIGHT: Randy Orton flips a coin to decide whether Cody Rhodes or Ted DiBiase will get to be brutalized.....I mean, get to face Batista in a cage match tonight. Also, MVP defends his US Title against Kofi Kingston, Big Show and The Miz face John Cena and a randomly selected partner, and Mickie James and Kelly Kelly face Beth Phoenix and Maryse. Mix in some final Extreme Rules hype and mmmmm.....that’s good Raw!

-WWE Open.

-Live in the arena, the steel cage was the first sight we saw. Randy Orton and the rest of Legacy were inside as their music played. We got the extreme close-up on Orton as per the usual. He reminded fans that he was defending his title in a steel cage on Sunday against Batista. Uggla asked fans if they thought he should be worried. Of course, they said he should. And he said they had no idea what they were talking about. He said he’s going to be the one to give Batista the biggest beating of his life. He also said he can do whatever he wants to Batista in the steel cage. Orton said Batista would love to prove him wrong; but he talked to Vickie Guerrero earlier, and Batista has a steel cage match tonight. Yes, I’m aware. Then he took out a coin and said heads he’ll be facing Cody Rhodes, tails it’ll be Teddy DiBiase. The flip.....and.....it was Cody. Rhodes took the mic and said he knows exactly what to do, as his father was in some of the greatest cage matches of all time. He said he had no problem giving Batista a preview of what Orton will do to him this Sunday. Orton then gave us an image he said we should get accustomed to.....then he walked through the cage door and out of the ring, holding the title. Then he had to explain it for the dummies out there, I guess. Ric Flair came out and immediately threw off his jacket.

Orton guessed the Flair was coming out to tell him what Batista would do to him on Sunday. Flair said no, he’s going to tell Orton what he’s going to do to him tonight. Flair said he’d walk out every week until Orton grew a set and faced him one-on-one. Flair told Orton to be a man and tonight, to face him in the parking lot for a fight. When one man stands and can walk, he’s the winner. He kept egging Orton on and shouting “punk, punk, punk” at him. Orton accepted and said it’ll be a night to forget for Flair because it’ll be a night he won’t remember.

[Commercial Break]

(1) Cody Rhodes vs. Batista- Steel Cage Match
Batista took Rhodes down, but Cody quickly got up and tried to climb out. Rake of the face had little to no effect on Batista, who rammed the back of Rhodes’ head against the steel cage. Batista then lowered his shoulder into Cody’s abdomen in the corner. Batista then threw Rhodes face-first into the cage, following that up with a spear. Orton made his way back to ringside and watched as Batista gave Rhodes a spinebuster. The two opponents this Sunday stared at each other through the cage. Rhodes took the opportunity to try to climb out, but Batista ended up grabbing him and Batista Bombing him after picking him up off the top rope. Then he made the pin.

Winner: Batista, at 3:10. I continue to be amazed at how short-sighted WWE is by jobbing Rhodes and DiBiase so quickly to EVERYONE.

-Backstage, Vickie Guerrero was sitting with Chavo, asking Big Show what his problem is with the match she made with him and Miz against Cena and a mystery partner. Show said he didn’t like the Miz or his bogus winning streak he touts against Cena. Show asked who Cena’s partner would be. Chavo got a bag with all Raw superstars’ names in it, and the one picked out would be Cena’s partner. Show made the pick.....and it was Chavo Guerrero. Show told Chavo that he’s going to hurt Cena and if Chavo gets in his way....he’ll hurt him too.

[Commercial Break]

(2) Kelly Kelly & Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix & Maryse
The ladies went after Maryse immediately, but she was able to get out of the ring to avoid the punishment. Beth started with Mickie, who took out Beth’s knee with a low dropkick. Cover got two. Jerry Lawler claimed that Kelly and Mickie are his all-time favorite tag team. Beth got Kelly up for a press lam, but Kelly got out of it and hit a hurricanrana. She then walked into a back-breaker from the Glamazon. Maryse tagged in and toyed with Kelly. Kelly struggled in the camel clutch-like submission. Beth broke up a pin but Mickie came off the top with a Thesz press. As the legal Divas were down, Rosa Mendes got on the apron to distract the ref. This allowed Beth to trip up Mickie on the apron. That distracted Kelly, and allowed Maryse to hit the DDT and get the rather sexy pin.

Winners: Beth & Maryse, at 2:57. A good match, but a bit too much going on there at the end.

-Chavo and Cena face Big Show and Miz tonight.

-Also tonight: An unsanctioned parking lot brawl between Ric Flair and Randy Orton.

[Commercial Break]

(3) Primo & Carlito vs. William Regal & Matt Hardy
Regal would be a GREAT partner for The Brian Kendrick. According to Michael Cole, if Hardy & Regal win, they’ll get a future tag title shot. Regal tried some double-teaming with Primo within seconds of starting the match, but it didn’t work. Knees to the face of Primo by Regal. Regal held Primo for Hardy, but Hardy had something else in mind, so it didn’t look like they were exactly getting along. Hardy elbowed Primo in the corner, then tagged Regal back in. They tried a double-team, but Regal had plans of his own. Hardy wanted a double-elbow on Primo but Regal stepped up and elbowed Primo himself. It’s been all heels two minutes in and Regal got a two-count. Frequent tags by the heels. Primo fought back against Regal, but Regal landed an overhead suplex. Hardy tagged himself up and went for the cover, getting only two. Two legdrops, then a miss. Both men made tags and Carlito hit a dangerous-looking springboard dropkick. Springboard back-elbow found the mark, but I think sometimes he gets too much height on that move. Miscommunication by the heels as Hardy hit Regal with his cast, then Carlito hit the Backstabber on Regal for the win.

Winners: Primo & Carlito, at 4:21. An OK tag bout, nothing more.

Regal and Hardy argued in the ring and almost came to blows after the match.

-Tonight, the United States Championship is on the line when MVP defends against Kofi Kingston.

-Chavo was randomly selected earlier to be Cena’s tag partner later tonight as they face Big Show and Miz.

[Commercial Break]

-Flair was already in the parking garage backstage when Batista walked up. Flair told him not to say a word. Flair said Batista should be thanking him for beating Orton’s brains out tonight. Batista said he didn’t have anything to prove, but Flair said he does because he misses what he’s done his entire life. Flair said he goes to bed and hopes he can wake up and be the man one more time. He said if Batista calls him the man one more time, he’s gonna vomit. He asked Batista to let him be Ric Flair one more time. Flair told Batista not to be his hero or running mate....but to be his friend and believe that Flair can do things like he used to tonight. Batista said he will always believe in Flair.

-Hardy and Regal were in Vickie’s office with something to say. Hardy blamed Regal for screwing things up tonight and Vickie apparently assumed they wanted another chance. Hardy said tonight, Vickie is going to go one-on-one with Santino. Vickie yelled in Spanish. Regal and Hardy both convinced her she can win. He then whispered in her ear, explaining how things would work tonight. Vickie said she liked it, laughed and snorted.

-John Cena was walking backstage when he came upon Chavo Guerrero. Chavo seemed to want to make friends, but Cena just ignored what he had to say and kept walking.

-The Miz came out for his tag match. He had a mic and said it was a Golden Age in WWE, as he’s 6-0 against corporate sellout and brown-noser John Cena. Miz said all the little kids in the crowd love Cena like they love the Jonas Brothers and SpongeBob SquarePants. Boos for that, as well as a Hannah Montana reference. Miz told the fans to look at the person to their left, and then their right. Then he instructed them to look in the ring because he’s what a winner looks like. He said he plans on going 7-0 tonight. The tag match is next.

[Commercial Break]

(4) The Miz & Big Show vs. Chavo Guerrero & John Cena
Big Show yelled at Miz to stay on the apron. I didn’t hear a bell to start the match, but Show beat on Cena with right hands and a bodyslam. Cena avoided a camel clutch and tried to apply the STF, but couldn’t. Show kicked him out of the ring, where Miz attacked him. Show got mad at Miz for doing so. Wouldn’t Show be happy to have someone soften up Cena for Sunday? Big Show missed a corner charge. Cena picked him up in a slam, but Show landed on him. Show then dropped a few knees into the chest of Cena. Show hit the ropes and Miz tagged himself in. Show was not happy about that. Miz teed off on Cena in the corner with kicks and punches. Cover still only got two. Cena made his comeback in mid-ring with punches and a few shoulder tackles. After a slam, he did the “you can’t see me” bit and measured Miz for an Attitude Adjustment. He hit it, but Show made the blind tag and chokeslammed Cena. Ref Scott Armstrong apparently didn’t see the tag. So Show got back out of the ring and Miz crawled over to the corner. Show insisted he make a tag, but Miz had different plans. Show then knocked him out Miz. Chavo tagged in and got the pin on Miz.

Winners: Cena and Chavo, at 5:00.

After the match, Chavo tried to celebrate with Cena, but Cena hit the Attitude Adjustment on him. Uh, why? Then Show and Cena started going at it and Show landed a patented big right hand as Cena came off the middle rope. Camel Clutch on the already out Cena just to rub it in. They showed a replay of what just took place.

[Commercial Break]

-Moments ago.....Show put Cena in his “camel clutch back-breaker” according to Cole.

-Josh Mathews was joined by MVP and Kofi Kingston backstage. MVP said Kofi earned a shot at the title last week, and it impressed MVP. Kofi complimented MVP, saying he took it to Randy Orton the first night he was on Raw and also got the win in the 10-man tag match last week. Mathews then asked who would leave Raw U.S. Champion and they simultaneously said “I am.” MVP said Kofi has been drinking too much Red Stripe. Kofi said there’s nothing wrong with being ex-champ, and it can be something he discusses with his prom date Sherri Shepherd next time he’s on the View. MVP said he may respect Kofi, but that doesn’t mean he won’t beat him. Good interview.

(5) Kofi Kingston vs. MVP- United States Championship Match
We got pics of Sherri and MVP at Sherri’s alma mater’s prom. MVP held a wrist-lock on Kofi, then blocked a kick by Kofi in a feeling out process. The two traded roll-ups and counters and Kofi then got in MVP’s face in the corner and said he was “this close” to winning. Match continues during the break.

[Commercial Break]

MVP had a waist-lock on Kofi out of break. Kingston leapt onto MVP in the corner, but MVP brought him out in a powerbomb-like move, but then Kofi got a roll-up for two. As both men got to their feet, MVP hit a big boot. “Ballin’!” elbowdrop for two. MVP missed a corner charge and Kofi hit him with that kick between the ropes that Christian has been doing. Kingston took to long getting to the top rope, and MVP took advantage. Superplex off the top by MVP. The two traded covers that ended when they double-clotheslined each other. German suplex by MVP, held on for a two-count. Bizarre cradle into a pin by Kofi for two. Playmaker, but Kingston got out of it. Trouble in Paradise was dodged- victory roll attempt by Kofi, but MVP sat down for a pin himself. Kofi reversed it and picked up the win.

Winner: Kingston, at 11:22. Really fun match, and I don’t know the last time that could be said for a Raw match.

MVP presented the belt to Kofi after the match.

-DiBiase asked Orton backstage why he was going to face Flair later tonight. DiBiase said Flair is desperate for the spotlight. He said Orton has everything to lose and nothing to gain. What if he gets hurt tonight? Orton shrugged it off, saying he’s in complete control. He wanted to preview things for Batista, what he’s going to put him through Sunday. DiBiase noted that that’s what Cody said. That seemed to shake Orton up.

-Vickie Guerrero came out to the ring for her match with Santino. She brought two buckets of, presumably, pig slop, with her.

[Commercial Break]

-Santino made his entrance. In a funny moment, Lawler said Hog Pen matches have occurred before in WWE and they actually showed the pen and the pigs in it, but never mentioned who wrestled in the match or showed any highlights. Santino picked up one of the slop buckets and was going to throw it on Vickie, but then Regal and Matt Hardy ran out and Santino whirled around getting them soaked with it. Regal got the worst of it. The duo attacked Santino. Regal suplexed him and Santino got nailed with Hardy’s cast. Vickie was laughing as she picked up the other bucket. Then she slowly poured it on Santino, starting with his crotch, then on his face and the rest of his body. Cole and Lawler made a big deal of how bad it smelled. No match.

-Flair was getting warmed up backstage for his parking lot brawl.

[Commercial Break- including the first commercial for the Macho Man DVD.]

-Cole and Lawler were in the ring to preview Extreme Rules and the card. While they talked, the steel cage lowered as Lawler talked about the cage match rules.

-Randy Orton was walking backstage....his brawl with Flair is next.

[Commercial Break]

-Orton arrived in the parking lot but couldn’t find Flair. He jumped over the rail and into the parking area. He called out Flair and Flair sneak attacked him from behind, shoving him into the metal garage door. Flair ripped Orton’s shirt and chopped him. Orton was able to kick Flair but Ric chopped him again. He threw Randy into the guardrail and applied the boots to him with his fancy shoes. Orton took over offense once he got to a vertical base, then threw him into a bunch of sound equipment boxes. Flair put Orton on top of one and rolled him into a table and another big box. They started making their way toward the entrance it appeared as Flair bounced Orton’s head off a table. They went through a side curtain and into a part of the arena. It was quite dark but Orton did get a punch in. Orton and Flair fought in front of a bunch of medics and sound guys, finally reaching the side of the stage. Kick to the gut by Orton, then one to the face. Not THE kick, though. Flair tried to fight back to no avail. Orton threw Flair onto the entrance ramp and did the Garvin Stomp. Orton took off what was left of his shirt as he continued beating on the Hall-of-Famer. He was going to shove Orton off the stage, but Flair stopped him with a nut shot. More chops as the two made their way to ringside. “Who’s old now?!” Flair yelled at him. Orton was bleeding from the top of his forehead, then Flair tossed him into the side of the cage, which was still down.

He continued with the right hands and chops as the front of Flair’s shirt was bloodied. A few chops almost sent Orton into the crowd. Flair undressed the announce table and flung Orton into the cage once again. He chopped Orton onto the table and punched away at the head. He stood on the table and kicked away at Orton’s leg. I guess Flair was cut too. Figure-Four locked in on the table. Orton writhed in pain, but DiBiase and Rhodes soon came to his aid. They threw him into the side of the cage and into the barricade. They began to put him in the cage as the fans chanted for Batista. Double suplex on Naitch. Orton screamed for them to get on him at ringside, then he made his own way inside the cage. Orton sent DiBiase and Rhodes out of the ring and had him lock the cage door. Batista made his way to the ring (why wait until they lock the cage?) And chased off Cody and Ted. Orton just stared at him from inside the ring. Batista didn’t climb the cage for some reason, then finally tried to as Orton set up, then hit an RKO. Batista couldn’t get up the side of the cage though. Batista yelled at Orton through the cage while Orton looked at him. Randy set up for then punted Flair as Batista yelled for him not to. It was a so-so kick. Orton then got up close to Batista and stared at him some more. And that’s how things ended.

I thought Orton missed Flair by a few feet on the kick.
Flair busting himself up on the top back of his head didn't look good.
Also, I was hoping Flair was going to pay a homage to the crazy old man Terry Funk and at least attempt to piledrive Orton on the announce table.
Was that the first black wrestler face vs. face match?
Regal's weight should be announced in stones, not pounds.
Regal's parking lot brawl with Finley back in '96 far outshines Orton vs. Flair, especially with the Heenan commentary when the piledriver occurs on his rental car.
Was Lawler trying to shift towards heel announcer mode tonight in regards to Matt Hardy?

Kofi vs. MVP and the end of the show were great! Miz should've pinned Chavo instead of the other way around, then he could be 6-0 against Cena.

Come on. You really expect Lillian Garcia to be able to announce Regal's weight in stones? I know it'd be written on a card for her, but that hasn't made much a difference in the last decade.

The street fight was pretty all right. Orton wearing his wrestling trunks made no sense. Tully and Arn wouldn't have been caught dead in a street fight without their blue jeans with the knee pads over them. I was hoping Legacy would at least steal Flair's Rolex. And why was the cage suddenly down when the cage match happened 90 minutes before? But the smeared blood from Flair's head everywhere was appreciated in this PG era.

US Title change with Mutual Respect before and after was a nice surprise. Kofi is the first Jamaican United States Champion in storyline, and probably the first Champion from Ghana in reality. Historic either way.

The booking of the Big Show and Cena tag match was well done, I thought. I liked the mutual disrespect between Show and Miz and I popped for Show punching Miz in the back of the head.

I also liked Santino swinging the bucket of slop so the cameras at ringside and part of the front row got slopped.

I think what made me happiest was Maryse finally scoring a pinfall win on RAW, and Beth winning a match was well as a result. It takes so little to make me happy. Maryse winning is enough.

The best RAW since the Draft happened, I'd say.

Two minor responses. Lilian repeatedly announced The Highlanders in stones, so I'm guessing it wouldn't be TOO much of a stretch.

As for the cage being down, didn't it come down for effect when Cole and Lawler were in the ring going over the PPV card? I thought that was a somewhat creative way of doing ti.

You and I may appreciate the blood, but I get the feeling Vince might not. It's not the first time Flair has defied a no-blood order in the WWE.

Kingston/MVP was a fine match, but I think they could do better if given the chance again. It seems like at times while they weren't blowing moves, they were working out communication kinks with the rollups. Really good finish though.

As far as Santino goes, he really flung that slop around. The images from the stained cameras while he was getting beat down by Regal & Hardy were gross, yet funny at the same time. Poor Santino(a) though, having probably to job to Vickie twice in slop-realted matches within a week.

The only lame spot IMO was Big Show putting that weak-ass looking camel clutch on Cena. Otherwise,I'm with you in that was all around one of the best Raw's in a while.

That's what I wrote down at first, but then Cole said Orton said the line I ended up writing down, which made more sense. Maybe he was just fixing it and that's what Orton was supposed to say.

Did anyone else find it funny that Flair kept using 'Punk' as an insult when it also happens to be the somewhat inexplicable last name of a top WWE face?

Flair probably had something else in mind, but in the PG WWE Universe, "Punk" is probably the epitome of insults that you can dish out to a young arrogant heel.

WWE is really jobbing the Legacy kids hard. Didn’t Cody already lose a cage match in 3 minutes to HHH earlier this year? They seem to want to have a Evolution vibe with Legacy, but the difference is, Orton and Batista were immediately treated like stars and pushed, injuries notwithstanding. Rhodes and Dibiase are vanilla jobbers to the stars and are miles away from being stars, or even credible at this point.

If no one else will say it, I will. What part of a push to the main event involves MVP jobbing the US title to a guy lower on the card than he is? Please don’t say it’s because he is about to move up to challenge for the World belt. I don’t really mind Kofi, but he is not much higher on the food chain that Rhoades and Dibiase.

Suddenly, Legacy with Manu and Snuka seems like the better choice.

Kofi needs it more than MVP. He's already a former IC champ (thanks to Shawn screwing over Jericho), and MVP has a status that makes the US belt redundant.

On Friday's SmackDown, Shelton Benjamin flaunted his US title reign to assert his superiority to Morrison. Accidentally and indirectly, Shelton put over Kofi.

But I agree MVP needs a big win immediately to maintain his draft momentum.

I really enjoyed the Kofi/MVP storyline. There's not enough Mutual Respect~! face matches wrestling.

To put it into perspective, last week's qualifying match (that Kofi won) and this week's interview/match/aftermath was more interesting (to me) than the entire Big Show/John Cena storyline. Same with the Matt Morgan/Kurt Angle from a couple of weeks ago on TNA.

I can't wait to see more from those two.

Nice to see Vickie Guerrero have so much fun with the slop, because I think she was the only one. I can't recall the last time I heard the crowd to quiet.

This show wasn't anything to write home about, sorry.
