Does anything think that if Vince McMahon were the Raw owner and Ric Flair were the Smackdown! owner with the rosters as they are, that WWE would be wondering why Raw was the better show than Smackdown!?

I find Smackdown! to be completely unwatchable...and it was unwatchable again this week. I can't remember the last time I watched 5 minutes of Will & Grace, let alone a full hour.

Am I going to be the only person who shows complete outrage at the fact that A MONTH! A MONTH! after being shaved, Kurt Angle was still Mr. Clean? It makes no sense. It defies all logic. It defies reason. It defies common sense. It is a complete insult to all intelligent wrestling fans--so, ok, it's an insult to most of the people at this board and a handful of others around the globe--but it's an insult nonetheless. This makes me angrier than any other illogical angle that WWE has ever run.

Am I going to the be the only person who shows complete outrage that The Hurricane is unmasked, Tazz shows...something akin to surprise...that its Gregory Helms, and Michael Cole--the man responsible for putting over the storylines to the TV audience, the man who overreacts to basically anything and everything--completely ignores this development. Now, WWE has hovered between having everyone but Hurricane knowing that the two are the same person and having everyone fooled by the "secret identity," and I can't claim to know which way the wind has been blowing in the last couple of weeks...but regardless, unmasking the Hurricane should have warranted something better than the following exchange:

Tazz: It's Gregory Helms!
(pause--Nidia takes mask, she and Noble pose)
Cole: Jamie Noble is making a statement!

Wins and losses in wrestling--especially in matches where no title is on the line--mean nothing; there's no ranking system, there's not even a pretense of some kind of hierarchy of talent...the most random people, even those coming off several TV losses can get a title shot--so what does Lance Storm care if the ref missed whatever shoulder he supposedly lifted in that match? Why should I, as a fan, care if someone wins or loses? If WWE wants to make REAL changes...they'll start addressing problems like this, and larger problems will start to fix themselves.

That's all I saw of Smackdown!, but I'm sure the rest of the show was stellar. Onto a bigger picture:

When Giuliani became mayor of New York, what did he target? He targeted street vendors, vagabonds, porn shops, etc. minor crimes and general ugliness--in an effort to make New York worth visiting. It worked. Times Square became completely revitalized...and crime rates in general decreased.

If WWE addresses little things, like making titles matter, making wins and losses matter, making sure that whatever storyline they come up with--even if its completely stupid...that it's logical and doesn't contradict wrestling history--inevitably the storylines will get better. Fans will become passionate about WWE again and business will pick up.

Well, the Angle thing is to build it up enough that it was meaningful when it was ripped off. But, I expected it to go at the pay per view first, not free tv. As for why he's bald, it's because wrestlings a work. It's not real. Not to hate, but come on, you didn't think he'd not keep it bald for a month, dude?

I'm insulted by the fact that Sting wore facepaint! Everyone knows he's gotta' face! Why wear the paint?

Also, I'm offended by the fact that Kurt ang Edge have been feuding for three months when they travel together. Talk about insulting my intelligence!

And why do they refer to the Dudleys as half brothers anyways!? MAN! I'm so ticked!

Well this is a new topic, but im guessing the thread is general.

I only saw the main event, and I have to say, that HHH's shots that he laid in on Angle by surprise should NEVER have kept Angle down for that long. He threw from what I remember, like a forearm or two and it damned near knocked Angle out. Have him hit him with a chair for God's sakes.

Of course Kurt was bald. He had his head shaved! It's a pretty heavy deal. It's not like he tore his quad or anything. :)

I understand the superficial layer of wrestling payoff as to why Angle was bald when the wig was removed, so fans could get their little pop and Angle gets embarrassed like a good heel should.

Of course, in a moment so ironic that all previous ironic moments lowered their heads in their inadequate shame, Hulk Hogan put on the wig.

So anyway, one reason, maybe the reason, this makes me so angry is that we all get haircuts, and so we all know that its virtually impossible for Angle to be just as bald a month after getting shaved UNLESS he shaved it or got it shaved again with his permission, and if he did that, then why would he care if his head was shaved and wear a wig to cover it. Basically, his hair should have grown back to what it was before it was shaved.

To say to me, its because wrestling is a work is dumb--then I hope I never read a post from you ever complaining about anything because, dude, wrestling is a work.

No, wrestling is a TV show, and the fact that its grown men fake fighting is enough suspension of belief...the other things should still make sense.

BDC

Edit:

Look, I can tell already some people don't care that a month after getting his head shaved, his head is still completely shaved. If you want to accept poorly crafted storylines that make absolutely no sense, be my guest. Just don't ever complain about anything because dude, wrestling's a work.

Maybe on the DVD to Judment Day we'll see behind the scenes footage of Edge catching Kurt Angle once again and "Nair"-ing the hell out of his head, thus preventing hair from just growing back. Or putting him through unnecessary Kemo therapy. Either way it's a recipe for good old fashioned fun!

I agree Smackdown, WWE in general is weak. But, come on! Angle being bald is like anyhting else. Of course it's insulting to our intelligence. But, I'd rather he be bald, keep shaving and give the kids their payoff. It's just a dumbass suspension of disbelief. I mean accept it. Not t htae but don't take this too seriously. It's just wrestling. I just hope the WWE gets their act together before I turn the channel and don't turn it back for a long time.

You're overanalyzing this and you just answered your own question, answer paragraph 3 with paragraph 1.

Wrestling is neither TV or a work. It's a way to make money (TM Lou Thesz). Making fans happy in the end means you make money. That is the only logic that has to come into play (though it hasn't been common recently).

Believe me, I understand your point. I shave my head every other day. By all rights, Kurt should be close to back to his normal hairstyle. But if that were the case, the fans would be pissed since you'd be effectively Dusty Finishing the stipulation from Judgment Day. And that is definitely not good for business.

It was a pretty good show. Except for the first half hour. You'd be surprised how interresting the History Channel can be rather than watch HHH vandalize the ring.

Oh, and now we have Mr. "Damn" Wanker (aka Faarooq). I don't know WHAT the heck that exchange was supposed to be about.

I guess I'll put my Smackdown thought down here

Oh my Gosh, the first half hour of HHH holding Smackdown hostage, it's been done to death, and this time HHH is just not as fun as Austin sitting down drinking beers (even though that ain't great either). Oh ya to make this half hour even better we get a nice little homophobe line out there. errrrr

Test v. Hurricane - THis is one situation with the aftermath was more interesting then the match. They are obviously playing the white-trash angle for Nidia/Knoble, and I'm thinking it's pretty good so far. I did like Tazz saying "Oh my gosh... it's Gergory Helms" funny line unfortunatly like always Cole wasn't listening or competent to add anything else.

Tajiri v. Hardcore - Okay Tajiri is pretty interesting heel and he lost to someone I still dont' know which side of the fense he's on... Average match, smart finish, but I like Tajiri to win it more.

Thrillseekers v. Kidman/ Val - first off memo to Kidman "Stop going into your 10 year old nephews drawer and stealing his underpants and wearing them on national television"...I wonder if Lance's Canadians get screwed will effect how American crowds view Face Canadians (will you lump us all together, when i say you i don't nesessary mean YOU sitting there in front of the computer I mean ...umm... You know what I mean)

D-von v. Farrooq - Dvon admits he used to strangle Abraham Lincoln but not anymore (sure you don't) Farrooq comes out and admits he enjoys shacking hands with the unemployed. Farrooq attacks Dvon and match ends. I sit there thining What the hell was that... Speaking of the 5-knuckle shuffle

TRISH STRATUS/ Linda vs. Ivory/Jackie - Errr Jackie looks a little too similar to Trish and the only thing I picked out of her moveset is kicks, that's Trish's thing. I hope my girl Trish learn lessons from Trips and keep her down... Nice Stratusphere (handspring to a headscissors) haven't seen her pull that off in a while. I thought it was funny that when trish was stretching out Linda before the match one of her legs seems longer then trish's body =)

HHHX2(kinda) v. Angle/Taker - Oh my fav guys plunders threw 10 minutes of a handicap match, even out a pretty much even fight all the way threw... In the end gets hit by Angle's finisher, Angle leaves, gets thrown in 20 seconds later and our Hero H is up and fine. Love the idea of the split getting new guys over when Triple H takes up a third of the show. Another thing why is Triple H selling his injury backstage by taping it up, but never selling it when he's in the ring, losing because of it or picking the ability of picking up sledgehammer with ease. I CAN'T STAND HIM

other stuff - Why is stacy grossed out kissing Vince all of a sudden, didnt they have sex already, we did see them button up and they have kissed while before screen goes to black.

Line of the night : Tazz on Hurricane getting unmasked "Oh my gosh Cole, It's Gregory Helms"

did anyone besides me have the same reaction to the the announcing during storm/y2j v. kidman/val? it went something like this: Cole: "Storm and Jericho are working pretty well as a team!" Me:"Because they are former tag partners! the Thrillseekers!" Tazzz:"Of course they are!" Me:"Oh my god, he's gonna mention it! Intelligent commentary!" Tazzzz:"Its because they're both Canadian!" Me:"AAAAAAAAARGH!!!"

this is why i want Paul E. or Joey Styles on the mic

I read the spoilers for this week's SD, and none of it looked all that appealing. I did try and succeed through good timing on the flipping to catch the one thing I did want to check out, and was not disappointed. I caught and God help me I really dug all the Nidia/Helms/Knoble stuff. Knoble is the most psychotic sounding redneck I've heard since my last family wedding, and it might just be me but the slutty white trash character for Nidia is making her damned hot to me. She's just playing such a forwardly sexual character yet not in a pandering to the fans kind of way (like Kat or Sable did) and it's gotten my attention pretty good. Sure it would be nice if after all that hard work on TE she actually got to wrestle, but at least she's on my tv and keeping me watching when she comes on.

Anyone remember the joy of seeing him bash the Undertaker's motorcycle with his sledgemhammer and doing no damage and being all like, "Mjolnir will not break thine cycle? I say thee NAY!" and dumping it off the stage. - Enojado Viento says the funniest thing I've ever read on Wienerville.

You're right, they *should* go out of their way to mention the Thrillseekers, so that the 6 people on the internet who would remember that will feel appreciated.
Why don't we work on them mentioning WCW when talking about Ric Flair first? If they have to start bringing up people's pasts in order to get them over, that seems like kind of a big way to start with him.

I must admit that Nidia is actually kinda sexy in that "superslut" sort of way, but GOD her acting is awful. If I have to hear her say the HurriCatchphrase again, I'll barf. It's like hearing a 3 year old try to mock someone. Some things I noticed that I did not like:

+Lance Storm's and Kidman's new themes are actually worse than the ones they had before, which is quite amazing. The WWF should just bite the bullet and give Storm the Mountie music. He'd get over in a second, guaranteed.

+This isn't something I didn't like really, but I noticed, Hardcore Holly is really old.

+It's a shame Ang Lee didn't cast Triple H to play the Hulk. He was born for it.

WWF Lesson of the Week: Masturbation is good, but being gay is not. I gotta remember that. I swear, that's like in the Bible or something.

RAW is sooooooo much better than this show and always has been. No matter how bad RAW is, it has this big event feel for me. It's like Monday Night Football. SmackDown! is like RollerJam.

KK: regarding the poor acting, it's just adding to the campy appeal of the whole storyline, in that she even sounds like a brain dead trailer slut. Her "comebacks" are vapid, not funny, and she doesn't know it so she beats them into the ground. Tell me that's not realistic! :)

You know, if you look at it that way, then I guess it makes sense. I guess if I'm going to continue to watch WWF TV I should look for the most campy reason and assume that's why it is the way it is.

Maybe if they mentioned the Thrillseekers, more than six people would know about them I just wish they would acknowledge anything that happened more than 2 weeks ago. (Test's "Immunity" doesn't count, cuz its stupid :P) Casual fans might actually extend their attention spans if they werent programmed to forget everything immediately.

BTW- I like the whole trailer trash gimmick of Jamie Knoble and Nidia
