Hey there;

Everyone knows CM Punk is now a 2 time Money in the Bank winner. Do you see him have a proper or good title reign this time? Or do you see him disappearing eventually into "mid-card status"?

I don't think they'd have given him the briefcase again if their intention was to repeat the mistakes of last year. I think we might see a heel turn, as SD is not as heel-heavy as it first looks. With Morrison turning face the only heels of any note are Edge, Jericho and Benjamin. And maybe Knox if they bother with him. On the face side there's Hardy, Punk, Rey, Morrison, and Undertaker.

I haven't found a reliable way to watch Smackdown, so I guess it doesn't really matter all that much to me, but if and when CM Punk turns heel, I *really* hope the straightedge bullshit has nothing to do with it. The "I'm better than you" straightedge dick is not only a way-too-predictable character turn, it also is already present in anyone that would get "drug free" tattooed on their knuckles.

If you believe the NEWZ~! sites, Hardy is unsure about re-upping when his contract expires (fairly soon), and Taker is likely to be out a bit due to bad knees and a bum hip. Morrison hasn't even officially turned yet, so I'd wait a bit before calling him a face, although it's a pretty good bet they'll be booking him as such going forward. Even so, he's unproven as a face.

I can't see them turning a proven face like Punk (who also sells a bunch of merch., I think) with such uncertainty on the face side of SD.

I bet it'll be a rinse and repeat of the last time he had a world title reign: someone in Creative will think "hey, he should hold the title"...it'll be an awesome move for the smarks who love him, but someone in the higher ups won't really see what everyone else sees, and he'll drop the title in a really dumb fashion.

It's unfortunate, because a Morrison/Punk title feud would totally kick ass. I would totally kill to see that.

Didn't they already have one in ECW? (It WAS good, IIRC.)

I do expect him to cash it in at the one PPV in Chicago for the hometown pop. I just say CM Punk as a work in progress still. He needs to have a great match which I haven't seen yet that didn't involve multiple people in it. I do think the WWE wants to make him a star, but I don't know if anyone outside a few people believe he can be one.

I think ultimately, Vince sees him as a mid carder. If he DOES win the world title again, it will another short lived reign. A transition champion.

He's got as much charisma as Jeff Hardy and better mic skills. He brings the modern version of the Team Xtreme attitude.

He's had good, credible matches with Snitsky, Kane, Regal, Jericho, Edge, and Morrison, and they're apparently gonna see what he can do with Umaga.

He can clearly play the face and apparently play a good heel. If his credo is to be believe, he'll always be clean when tested and can be more confidently booked for long-term angles.

He's young, popular, and a multi-title holder. Of the original version for WWE's ECW, he's been the standout and breakout. Elijah, Monte, Thorn, Knox -- they flamed out.

Punk has a bright future ahead of him. Sky's the limit.

I liked the guy's work in ROH (as a heel) but he has still done nothing to impress me in the WWE. other than cashing in against Edge last year. And that was more of a great storytelling moment than anything Punk did, IMO. What do people really see in this guy who bores me to tears? No offese, I really want to know.

In his WWE career, I think he's had great matches with John Morrison when he won the ECW title, with Regal when he won the Intercontinental Title, and with Jericho last December in Toronto.

Punk will be fine.

Now Punk is not the biggest, but the guy is very comfortable on the mic if anyone has watched his indie career. He also works hard in the ring, trying out little puroresu-inspired spots in matches which less than a handful of workers in the W are familiar with. The difference between Punk and say Jeff Hardy, I believe is that his character still hasn't shown a "raw edge".

Punk has been portrayed as a competitior, and every once in a while the commentators have stated him as a loner, of course everyone knows he's strict about being anti-drugs and alcohol. Where is his attitude at? Punk's biggest problem is that he hasn't been written to seem truly dangerous, crazy, willing to go over the edge for a win or revenge. Right now to fans he probably seems like a nice guy that tries really hard. He needs something besides tattoo sleeves to make him seem larger than life to the fans. Either turn Punk into the dick heel he is an expert at being, or have him go anti-hero Stone Cold style.

When he kept losing his intercontinental title shots due to Regal's disqualifications, by the third time he should of been in Regal's dressing room threatening to beat him right then and there since he preferred fighting dirty. Which should of lead to the No DQ match to end the angle. Punks are supposed to be rude, violent, and they never conform or follow rules. CM Punk by definition is the antithesis of that. He's a damn boy scout. When he won the title from Edge, and Vickie shows up next week to slap him in the face CM Punk just politely tried to roll her out of the ring. He could of at least teased a GTS on her before being interrupted.

So yeah, Punk should be acting more Punk-like. A calm disciplined tatted MMA hybrid fighter in the ring normally, but when he gets screwed out of wins by shenanigans and pushed to far. He becomes a bull that sees red and looks for a street fight to even the score. Then when confronted about his anger issues he shows passive aggression to his accusers, causing the rest of the locker to have a legitimate reason to fear/dislike him and the fans to see him as legitimate threat.

Then there is always dick-heel.

In defense of Punk's lack of great singles matches, I can't remember him getting the time to really put on a great match on a big stage. Here by saying "time", I'm talking about getting 15+ minutes to build a match. I don't recall a lot of his early ECW tenure, but I believe there were a couple of excellent TV matches with John Morrison. Also, Punk's opposition in recent times have hardly been people known for their workrate. He got watchable matches from JBL and Kane, as aptly pointed out by people of this very board, and outside of Regal (where no match went more than 5 minutes IIRC), he has hardly had the opponent to work a memorable match. Let's see him with Edge, Jericho, Shawn, Mysterio, Taker, and to a smaller extent Cena, and Umaga, and then judge if he can deliver a match. Nearly a year of multi-man matches, 8-minute tags, and 4-minute singles matches is no material to really gauge his ability to work a blockbuster match.

I would really appreciate if he stopped ripping from KENTA's and Nagata's arsenal, though. I bet you that the only reason he's not doing the Busaiku Knee Kick is because either someone in management said it was too dangerous, or because his opponents refused to take it.

I'll never get people bitching over "stolen" moves. I don't see KENTA or Nagata working the US often-Punk can have them.
To me, its crazy that folks don't see Punk's potential. With the exception of his weird twenty-minute PPV match with Elijah Burke, he always delivers when given even a small amount of time. He's had good matches with weak workers and great matches with guys on his level or above. Even his non-finish match with Batista last year was way better than you usual ten-minute Dave bout.

I was hoping that once cemeneted into the main event he would be allowed multiple finishers ala Kurt Angle or Jericho. Leading to the return of the Anaconda Vice. That was nice move with the only way to escape being to rake the eyes. Perfect for a heel opponent.

Plus there is Umaga and Kane on the heel side. (Maybe Kane isn't a heel we want to see, but he's a heel they're going to use in the main event). So that's 5 to 5 (not including Knox). I'd say they're pretty even now and if Punk turns or Hardy leaves then they'd be uneven.

I also think they need to build CM Punk up before he probably becomes a world champion again. The guy has a good move-set and is pretty fun to watch in the ring.

With the WWE's intention of actually having CM Punk winning the MITB this year, I think CM Punk will have a legitimate title reign. When he won it last time, his popularity went up considerably.

I never saw him as a heel or any of his matches besides the WWE; therefore, I can't post a legitimate argument of him being a heel in the WWE. It might make sense though with the gradual face turn of John Morrison and the last feud with Morrison and Punk was a good one.

And as for the Anaconda Vise hold, I miss that move and how many broken noses has he inflicted with that move?
