The Jets were bold, and a few teams traded down and picked up picks for day two. What did YOUR team do? Are you happy?

The Eagles need a TE more than a WR, but Maclin at 19 was apparently too good for them to pass on. I'm OK with that, but the history of 1st round WRs is always a worry.

McCoy seems a bit undersized but they might pick up a larger back in free agency and groom him to be the long term replacement. Of course they haven't bothered with a big back in like, forever (I don't count Tony Hunt and Weaver's more a FB), so maybe not.

Ellis Hobbs for two 5th's is decent value. He'll probably be gone at the end of the season, but he gives insurance against Sheldon Brown whining his way out the door (sidenote: I LOVED Sheldon as well. His 180 from great team player to complete self-absorbed prick is bizarre).

Overall, looks good on paper.

The Packers took the big nose tackle that they needed to run the 3-4, B.J. Raji, at #9 overall. Then they traded up for the first time since I don't know when, taking LB Clay Matthews III from USC at #26 overall. It seemed a lot to give up (a 2nd rounder and two 3rd rounders), but the definitely must like him for having moved up to get him. I did not think LB was a position of need, since at the time it seemed like the 4 starting LBs would be A.J. Hawk, Aaron Kampman, Nick Barnett, and Brady Poppinga. But now I don't know.

They filled out the rest of the draft with two offensive lineman, a DE, a CB, another LB, and a FB, which are all positions that could use either upgrades or depth.

So all in all, I'm pretty happy about it. I was hoping they'd spend a 7th on Greg Paulus. My thinking is if he goes to Syracuse or Michigan and improves, then, well, the Packers will already own his rights for a year until the 2010 draft. I think that's legal since the Packers were already looking at him. I don't think their right to draft him goes away just because the NCAA gives him a 5th season of eligibility. But maybe they didn't like what they saw.

For the first time in 12 years, the Titans drafted a receiver in the first round. I'm pretty happy.

The Browns trade-downs became a running joke between my neighbor and I. We were waiting for their first pick to be in the second round and by that time, they would own the entire 7th round of the draft.

I am pleased enough with how things turned out for them, clearly they are in a quantity mode. I'm still shocked by 2 WR in the second, I thought for sure they would pick up an LB or two. That said, at least I am pleased at the two they got, and feel that they have a good shot at being decent at the pro level. I'm thrilled to have Mack at center, and I can't wait to see what NFC team he represents in the Pro Bowl (see Faine, Jeff and O'Hara, Shaun).

My Broncos needed a lot of help in the defensive line so of course they took another running back from Georgia....

I hope Hobbs is as good as advertised. I know Burress is out of the division, but I still remember him torching Toastelio back when Sheppard was injured (but still good)), and even if Hanson's been playing better, with Sheldon's peculiar behaviour, I like this insurance on the depth chart.

I'm curious about McCoy. This season will be interesting.

I don't think Hobbs is any better or worse than Brown (not as good in coverage, offers more in the return game) but at least he sounds like he should be able to make it through training camp without being an asshole, so that's a plus. And he's five-years younger.

I think they're probably holding off to see how Ikegwouno plays in camp. If he does OK then Brown'll get traded (hopefully with his namesake at WR not far behind him).

If not, I guess we're looking at Lito Mk II. Sheldon needs to be careful though. If he winds up riding the bench like Lito he might find out the market for 31-year old nickel corners isn't too hot.

EDIT - Or maybe the Hobbs trade'll scare him into realising what a douche he's been. (philly.com)

He was thinking of the TEAM when he said the Eagles wouldn't want him in the locker room. Riiiiiight.....

I'm pleased with "my" Seahawks getting Curry with the 4th pick since he seemed to be touted as the best player available this year by quite a few of the talking heads. I'm also pleased with the OL and the safety taken in later rounds.

Also have to like banking another #1 for next year from the Broncs but haven't seen definitively whether it was for their #1 next year or the one they got from the Bears. Not that I need added incentive to root against the Broncos having a good year (old AFC West rivalry and all) ;-)

I think it's been a good solid offseason for the 'Hawks and should lead to good things this year, although it does look as if the Cardinals have had a good offseason too. Have to hope for that ol' SuperBowl loser "jinx."

After years of needing a WR in the first round we finally get one and Kiper gives us a C+. I'm good with the rest of the picks. Even though we drafted another tight end but I guess that is in case Scaife is gone soon.

The Lions needed offensive and defensive line help. Their first three picks: QB, TE, and a safety from Western Michigan University. Oh wait, they did draft an offensive lineman. In the 7th round.

I would have been happier if they had picked like the Jaguars or the Rams with their first two picks. I don't even mind them taking Stafford. But to take Stafford and then go TE and safety? It makes no sense to me. But when does a Lions draft ever make sense?

Besides, we have the bold new logo, we don't need help up front.

My wish: Culpepper stays healthy enough so that Stafford doesn't have to take the field in 2009. Culpepper turns things around from last year and the Lions finish 6 - 10.

What will probably happen: Culpepper gets eaten alive during each of the first three games, ending in a season ending injury. Stafford comes in during the end of the third game and leads the Lions to consecutive touchdowns to close the gap, but they still lose. Everyone then says, "Hey, Stafford looks pretty good, Detroit made a good pick." Stafford then starts game four and the crappy offensive line gives up sack after sack until Stafford can't sleep at night because he keeps having a recurring nightmare about getting hit in the back by a train. He then ends up as Miami's backup QB ala Joey Harrington. The Lions finish 1 - 15, but I don't know how they win that one game.

"Get the Big guys early." That's the mantra, and the Jags lived by it, taking Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton the first two rounds. If there was any question they were drafting BPA, there's the answer. They got good value with Britton, since some saw him as a first rounder. Protection was a problem last year, and hopefully they've solved it.

I wasn't big on the Derek Cox or Terrance Knighton picks, mostly since I hadn't heard of them (and I'm a huge draftnik). But if Knighton can clog the middle and Cox can be a third corner this year, I'll be happy. Then I was back to being happy with Mike Thomas, who I was a fan of after his Senior Bowl performance, and Jarrett Dillard, two receivers who bucked the past trend of the Jags taking big receivers- these are speed guys.

Zach Miller was an odd choice, college QB who will move to TE. I'm surprised they waited so long to take a RB, but they got a good one in Rashad Jennings. Their final pick of Tiquan Underwood was fine. The only thing that surprised me is they didn't take a young QB with several available late.

I can't argue a damn thing. The Lions chose the second-best QB in the draft with the number one pick.

The Pettigrew pick I could've understood if it was any other team. But the Lions have so many needs, tight end is not a pick you can make in the first round.

Then, while Rey Maualuga and James Laurinaitis are standing there, staring at you, they take a dude from a Michigan Directional school.

I'm calling it: Detroit Lions, first team go to 0-32.

They addressed this on ESPN - the replay booth cannot overturn a possession call on the field. EDIT: It wasn't ESPN saying it, but they quoted a former referee as saying that the call could not be overturned by replay.
