Of course it appears he is tied up with the MLB network now.

I like Howie and Howie alone from the Fox studio.

I loved loved loved loved the ESPN Sunday Night crew of Tirico, Allen, and Theisman. The best thing Tony does on MNF is his introductory monologue, and that's because he's a solid writer. Beyond that, I feel anyone could do his job in the booth.

Collinsworth won me over by saying things and sticking by them in a way that didn't sound like he was baiting chatrooms or the other commentators. When the FOX and CBS folks do that, it seems like shtick.

Mike and Mike have been the voice of the Arena League for several years, and they'll usually host the less-important Monday night game when they have two scheduled, usually in a three-man booth with Mike Ditka.

And Kornheiser is horrible for live sports. I love him on PTI, but while the game is going, I want people who are helping me to understand the game. I <3 Ron Jaworski, for example.

Jaws and Tirico by themselves would make a GREAT team. No man can breakdown QB performances and defensive schemes on the fly like Jaws.

Collinsworth is good, if not a little negative. He doesn't sound like he's full of it, but that may be because he thinks everybody else is.

Kornheiser is terrible in the booth. When he has time to prepare a story or thought he's nigh untouchable, but on the fly in real time, he comes up short, and usually falls back on whatever hot button ESPN is on at the time, no matter how irrelevant.

Terry and Howie are great. However, Aikman and Buck are NOT. Terry seems like he's having a great time doing what he does, which seems to annoy many (heh, maybe because they're never that happy?), but he does have a sense of validity behind his statements. Howie always seems like he's on the verge of breaking something, but that's okay too. All in all, their given strangeness usually filters out stupid nonstory bullshit in favor of what's happening on Gameday.

Jaworski should be taking Madden's gig. For my money he's the best color man in football.

Collinsworth just comes off as smug and condesending to me. I have never been a fan of his as a commentator, and really hate when he calls a game. But I have gotten into the habit of listening to radio broadcasts when I watch a game, or just turning the sound down.

I do agree with Lexus that Jaws is the best right now. A couple years ago when the NFL started the Monday night double header on opening weekend, he and Vermile were part of a 3 man both, and it was one of the more enjoyable games to listen to in a long while.

I think the reason he doesn't get more games, is that the networks seem to want to dumb down the commentary to appeal to everyone. And Jaws tends to get into subject matter that they feel casual fans might not appreciate.

Yeah, I see this about Jaws, but that sucks. He always seems to me to know what the hell he's talking about. He definitely goes into good detail more than a lot of other color guys.

If only they could set up two commentary teams, ala WWE, and allow viewers to choose. That would be pretty entertaining.

For me, Collinsworth is always prepared in exactly the wrong way. He comes into a game with his preplanned story and when the game doesn't play out that way, he's utterly lost. I understand that that's the way it's done anymore by a lot of broadcasters, but Collinsworth is especially bad about it and simply isn't good enough to recover when his storyline doesn't work. It doesn't help any that Collinsworth's voice is incredibly annoying. For me, and my wife, Collinsworth is easily the worst of the "BIG GAME" color men out there.

Echoing many other voices, I'd far rather have Jaws working the booth. Collinsworth and Michaels in the booth will stink and ensures that I'll either be watching games on Sunday evenings with no volume or, as is far more likely, just not watching the games.

If we are going with fantasy NFL viewing, give me the endzone, all 22 cam (coaches tape) with someone like Jaws on color.

So much of the game happens off camera in the NFL, you really miss half the action staying zoomed in on the QB and RB all game.

The key thing overlooked in all of this is who replaces Collinsworth at the NFL Network? Would the people who thought Bryant Gumbel was a good idea subject America to a Deion Sanders/Marshall Faulk combination? I hate saying this, but this could be the landing spot for Matt 0-16 Millen.

Millen is apparently sliding in to Collinsworth's spot on Football Night in America. They were worried about not having enough people to fully staff a jury trial, I think.

The NFLNetwork color guy might be a indicator of what the NFL is thinking about the network. Gumbel and Collinsworth seemed to be brought in, among other reasons, to be big name guys to make their games seem more important. They could go that route again, or they could go inside the network if keep costs down has become more important.

Godspeed, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Infantry, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, Wisconsin Army National Guard! Victory in Iraq!

In a just world, they'd find a way to get Mike Patrick into the mix.

And no, no, A THOUSAND TIMES NO on Collinsworth. For the love of Pete, I say thee nay!

WRONG. ESPN gobbled him up, even better.

I hope, every time they show him, they include his Lions record as part of his on screen resume.
