Twice, I was standing up, moving away from my couch, and sitting closer to the TV because I was 10 years ago again and loving rasslin.

1) Steamboat shows up to PLAY.

2) Taker/Michaels

The Lovely Mrs. Tracker was all over Kofi's performance and didn't care about anyone else. She thought Henry looked smaller than before, but said that could have been the suit.

She didn't recognize the blonde Molly Holly, and I didn't remember her having any other hair color than stark blonde. Still, we were happy she got a paycheck. She did not like remembering the angle where everyone made fun of Molly's backside.

I felt bad for Randy. He was sandbagged by the gimmick, and the ring work was 80% punching. Love that dropkick, but I hate that it's only used now as a transition move. Once he used the RKO, the punt was the only move he could build toward. And then Hunter stole it. So what do you do with Orton now? We need a reason why he can't be fired. The IED was revealed as a smokescreen, and he hit all the bosses.

UT/HBK was the most entertaining match I have seen in a long time. I am surprised (and relieved) that Taker didn't break his neck.

This new WWE seems more directed to a quick feel good face win then long term booking with solid heels dominating. I don't know if that is good or bad, but it feels boring.

I agree, although it would be less boring if they would build new stars. Not that Cena, Edge and Orton aren't relatively new, but I think those guys need new opponents.

We've seen this WrestleMania hot potato of Cena-Edge-HHH-Orton (with UT, HBK, and Batista in and out) for the last 2-4 years. I hope they go in a different direction with talent next year.

EDIT: This WrestleMania would be classified in the "could have been worse" category with me. I don't really have any problems with it (though I would have loved to see Steamboat pin Jericho), but it wasn't very exciting save for some of the action.

Highlights for me were Rey beating JBL and UT/HBK.

The only change I would've made is scheduling UT/HBK as the last match.

Absolutely HBK/Taker needed to be last, especially with how the match turned out. You get something that good rolling, something fans and non-fans are buying into THAT much, and it's just instant death for any match after it. The triple threat kinda stayed afloat due to the mixed Cena reactions, but HHH/Orton was doomed. I did enjoy H's tribute to Austin, though.

So I can't say enough about HBK/Taker; most of it's been said anyways. I definitely thought for a little while that Taker had knocked himself out on the dive, HBK dragging the ref in for a count-out seemed like a buying-for-time tactic at first. But man oh man, what a ride. HBK buries another cameraman!!!

Aside from that, the only match I was liked was MITB. Kofi may be the new Shelton, but Shelton's still Shelton. If that sunset flip-to-powerbomb thing was the original plan, we'd be going apeshit. Hell the regular powerbomb outside was still a great moment. But, the ending. A big giant 'what the hell'. I'll be the first to admit I'm not on the Punk bandwagon at all, so it might be my bias, but how on earth does Christian not win? Especially after that amazing balancing act spot? You could even have Punk do his thing, get caught on the ladder and have that "oh so close to repeating" respect heat from it. But, Punk wins again. Yay. So where does this leave Christian? Why on earth did he come back? He wasn't Jeff's secret attacker. He doesn't win MITB. He really came back to the WWE to be a second-rate ECW "star"? Seriously?

And while I didn't enjoy most of the other matches, there were moments. I won't repeat the stupidity of no entrances for the divas battle royal, but Santin'a' antics throughout the match and then winning were hilarious. Santino is far and away the best thing going right now outside of Jericho. The finish for the Hardy match was sweet. Cena's entrance was eight billion different types of gay, and if you hadn't already figured out from his superman run that he was going to win, that entrance telegraphed it considering Show and Edge got *nothing*. Austin's send-off was fantastic and everything I expected, only minus a Stunner to someone. Anyone. God speed, Steve Austin, and thank you. What can be said about the disappointment that was HHH/Orton has been said, although I'm definitely on the "what else can you do with Orton?" wagon. We know Trips can bring it. Aside from the Foley match, Orton's never come close to proving that.

But, the key moment I'm taking away from this (outside of EVERYTHING in the HBK/Taker match) is STEAMBOAT!!!~!!11 Piper showed up with his working boots on as well, including I think a dropkick?!?!, but Steamboat was prime condition. The arm drags back, body presses from the ring to the outside, the chain wrestling, all of it. It was spectacular and the crowd was eating it up, too. Ricky was back!

The best part of that was that Punk catching his leg in the ladder was the same finish when he beat Jericho last year. It was really well done. I really wanted Christian to win but Punk was my second choice. I know the original plan when he won last year was to steal the belt from a babyface and turn heel, so maybe they'll enact that this time around.

Well, not on purpose. I'm sure before he signed it was like "oh man, definitely come back and be in a semi-main event with Jeff Hardy." Then once he was in they were all, "actually, nevermind, just sit tight." I think he'll end up like Matt Hardy when he re-signed in 2005 and was really treated like a nobody. But like Matt, in the long run his work and overness won't be able to be denied.

I also really hope that is the plan, or at least I hope they see it now after the boos that CM Punk got after winning the match. I think the boos were dropped because of how much Christian was the OVERWHELMING favorite of the crowd in MitB (although I'm sure they would have been fine with Kofi after his performance).

Christian is my favorite wrestler in the WWE but lets be realistic. Even though Christian is back Vince still doesn't like him and doesn't see him as a worthy champion so why would he win a shot at the title? I'm not sure Christian will even be treated as well as Matt. Matt had to leave, he was released. Christian chose somebody else over the WWE and was there for over three years. Christian was lucky he was even put on this show and the only thing he has to look forward to is the WWE paycheck.

There was a time when Matt was doing clean jobs for Rob Conway and Animal. I don't think Christian will get that far underground anytime soon.

Dave M went on at length in the Feb 23 Observer.

Michael Hayes came up with the original introduction plan on Christian which is the one reported on where he does all these sniper like attacks on Jeff and was revealed at Royal Rumble. Later, whether it was because people figured it out, or because Hayes understood which way the wind was blowing on Christian (which wasn’t favorable; Vince was never high on him and as time went on, it became apparent he still wasn’t), he approached Vince on giving the idea to Matt (as noted before, there were things on TV and we even wrote about them here where you could see that was always a possible plan), selling that it would be a big surprise and Matt vs. Jeff would be a bigger marquee program than Christian vs. Jeff. Vince agreed with him.

...

As noted many times, in 2005, whenever suggestions were made to do anything with Christian, Vince nixed them and saw him as a prelim guy. He even said in meetings that he had no star aura and that his head shot promotional photo was one of the worst he’s ever seen. He said he was too ordinary, the personification of vanilla and was negative when Brian Gewirtz asked about bringing him to Raw after Matt got the angle. Given Vince’s increased negativity on Christian, Gewirtz and Ed Koskey in particular, who were supporters of him, got concerned that he may wind up like D-Lo Brown, hired and then forgotten without even getting a chance. They came up with the idea to link him in a new feud with someone Vince is high on and was without a major opponent (Swagger). They figured the longer they didn’t get him on TV, the more likely he’d wind up never getting going and this was the best they could do. The original idea for [Christian's ECW debut] had the same Swagger promo with Christian coming out to interrupt. The show was also written with several more segments involving him meeting the talent, and putting him over like it was a big acquisition. The match itself was booked to be a short sprint for him to shine more, ending with a wild no contest or Swagger walking out and getting counted out. However, after that was written, Vince changed the show to what it turned out to be. It was seen as Vince simply having no vision of Christian as a star. Vince is said to simply not see what others in creative see in him.

Since then, Meltzer has been saying that Christian is having such good matches, he feels he's going to force WWE to push him. Eventually.

There are two photo galleries on WWE.com of all the Divas from the match, for anyone who wanted to know who was actually IN that match...Joy Giovanni was out there? Really? And Jackie Haas has dyed black hair now...

Important questions not asked yet in this thread:

How'd Carl Edwards get from the speedway in Fort Worth to WrestleMania (appx. 285 miles) and how much of the show did he miss?

Did Cena taking time post-match to mug with the "ROCK > CENA" sign (was it planted?) lend any credence to all of the the conspiracy theories that someone's still trying to kick off negotiations for a "no chance in hell" dream match of Cena vs. Rock for WM26?

Is Kid Rock's performance over yet?

Harder punch - by which I mean, "better sell by Jericho:" Mickey Rourke or Big Show?

If Matt Hardy has a new heel outfit, isn't it about time he got some heel music?

I'm starting to sound like Scherer so I'll stop there.

Exactly what I was thinking. This was the closest to a Misawa vs Kobashi match as the WWE is gonna show, until we get a Punk vs HBK PPV match. I was thinking of setting up Fire Pro right after the match. No Criticals or countouts. Level 10!

C'mon, criticals are fun! And probably the only way for me to win on Level 10; I just can't seem to get it done. Level 9 I can manage, but 10 is beyond me.

Yeah Criticals are fun but they can end a good match abruptly. I turn them off for title matches and big feuds like Kawada vs. Randy Savage cause I wanna see a clean pin or submission. I also never play my matches I only sim them. I'm horrible at actually playing a match, but I love watching them.

Though nothing is more fun than a submission CRITICAL!

You change two things about this show-do the Diva entrances rather than Kid Rock and put UT/HBK on last-and it'd be a slam dunk. The sad part about the ME is that they worked some fun spots in there, but said spots were contingent on the crowd being into them to really work. Had they put the same match on prior to the HoF stuff and Taker/Michaels it would've likely come across a lot better.

Anyone just think maybe Vince is saying these things as a kinda tough love/ motivational tool for Christian? I mean he did just up and leave the company after receiving main event feuds, a mini stable, and Trish Stratus as a valet. Maybe Vince has known Christian can shine but doesn't want the guy thinking he can just pop back up in the company after seemingly burning his bridges and making money for the enemy companies, then walk back into the main spot.

If Vince didn't like him he wouldn't of hired him back, or put him in Wrestlemania plain and simple. He could of easily put R-Truth or Brian Kendrick in the match.

That was 2004, though. 2005 didn't go quite so good.
