Damn shame.
Lived there for 13 years. Live about 40 miles away now, and Binghamton is still the closest "big" city. Never, never seen anything like this around here.
Not to make it sound like Mayberry or anything- there have been problems, murders, a couple police officers shot in the line of duty, but this is above and beyond even that (A brief digression at this point- My uncle is a Binghamton Police Officer, and while I haven't yet talked to him, I have been told that he was off today, and if he would have been called in as coverage for on-duty officers who responded to the incident at the Civic Association. My uncle (by marriage) has a sister who maywork at the Civic Association, but again, I'm unsure of that. Thus ends this episode of "Tenuous Internet Connections")
I think back to something that was said here around the time of the Minneapolis Bridge Collapse a couple years ago- It's pretty damn surreal to turn on CNN, and see them giving on-screen credit to your local CBS affiliate. On the other hand, it's pretty damn depressing to actually tune in TO the local CBS affiliate, and see that all they have on is a news crawl, so as not to disrupt everyone watching Guiding Light and Oprah Winfrey.
