I think what I enjoyed most about this week's episode of RAW was the continuity on display. Constant callbacks to the past adding significance to the future, i.e. WrestleMania:

Jericho bringing back the classic Piper's Pit set, showing old Piper vs. Snuka clips, and reenacting the original beatdown on Snuka from 25 years ago.

Edge mentioning Cena's hometown of West Newbury, MA and that he's "been there myself."

Maryse making fun of Melina for needing "two years" to beat Beth Phoenix. Then a joke from Lawler about Melina's familiarity with paparazzi.

Triple H was the King of Callbacks, referencing Evolution betraying Orton after he won his first World Title (hey, who'd Orton beat?) and breaking his collar bone last year.

So much continuity? Was I watching Lost or Monday Night RAW?

No! She's great.

Even transitional champs need the air of legitimacy), but Michaels/Undertaker didn't need it. The match mostly sells itself. That first loss should have come from a guy who needed it more.

Thing is, Kozlov's streak didn't really mean anything anyway. He was already pinned in the Elimination Chamber straight up. The only guy before Undertaker that he'd beaten who matters is Jeff, and he only beat Undertaker so they could turn it around with Shawn.

Kozlov was never over, so I don't think that it would've helped anyone very much. Unless they'd built to MVP/Kozlov streak vs. streak and MVP winning as his face turn. That would've been cool but I think there's more value in Shawn Michaels as a streak-ender creating some (fake) doubt in the outcome of their match.

Plus the sooner Kozlov gets jobbed out the better. Although the next stop for him is of course the 8-man Money in the Bank Monster Mash Ladder Match of Punk vs. Kane vs. Mark Henry vs. Kozlov vs. Knox vs. JBL vs. Umaga vs. Khali.

No, you're thinking of Michelle McCool. She *sucks*. Maryse is what MM tries to be.

And the botched DDT was all Melina's fault - she was trying to keep her skirt pulled down that entire sequence at in ruined it. Nice choice of outfit, Mel.

The "original" Piper's Pit" set wasn't even the same colors as the one they showed with Snuka taking the Coconut.

Jerricoh has been awesome in this, and even if it DOES lead to a Lawler match at WM, Jerry can get a nice pop. But, with no real "Legend" who can still put on a good match, does it really matter what the payoff is, as long as Y2J gets a beating?

And, Bill Watts was probably THE best booker ever when Mid South was at it's high point. Too bad he got overtaken by McMahon and Turner.

The end of the match will be the highlight when, rightfully, everyone he's berated comes out for a parting shot. The match should ultimately be a parade of classic entrances and trademark finishers.

Jericho pinballs for the legends and then later claims it took [insert number] of the WWE's best to beat him.

I wonder if they will mention the previous 3 classic Shawn/Taker matches? They were so long ago, it might make both guys seem even older. However, Taker saying the last time they fought, Shawn didn't wrestle for 4 years (other than WM 14) would be a nice touch.

Is there anything to this Austin/Jericho rumor? This greatness of Jericho and this angle demands a pay off of that magnitude. Hogan or Austin, anyone else would be a disappointment. But I doubt either of those are happening. That's also assuming Rock never wrestles again.

It can't be Lawler...that would be a letdown. It HAS to be one of the above mentioned, with the succession of finishers throughout.

Jericho taking a bunch of oldie finishes is an ass payoff. How many times have we seen that in the past? He's not Rob Conway and WM is not Taboo Tuesday.
If ever a feud was made for WM Recall matches, it's Taker/Michaels. Shawn should run through Mark Henry, Big Show and Batista in a sling.

How did we get from Jericho/Hogan to Jericho/Austin to Jericho/Lawler? Is this just a WWE smokescreen? It's not so much I have anything against Lawler. It would be great to see him fight in a good old fashion 'no holds barred' blood bath, but Jerry Lawler has been playing the village idiot for far to long to be pulling this off at WM25.

If this does lead to Lawler/Jericho, do you think a turnbuckle punch or a piledriver is a sufficient climax to the angle with the longest build for this year's WM? Jericho is trashing the history of the WWE. He whipped Snuka. He decked Steamboat. He punched Flair. He kicked Piper. The retribution must be Biblical.

Granted, it is a lot like Santino and the former IC champs giving him what for. But they've elevated that angle's antagonism to the past. And, as much as I hate to say it, the WM setting alone will make that type of ending a spectacle.

If it turns out to be Jericho vs. Lawler, expect a zillion other people involved so that Lawler simply has to take the bumps. If it's Austin or Hogan the spotlight will be on them. If it's Lawler the spotlight will be Rourke and Flair (who you expect will be involved) and maybe even Austin getting involved in a non-wrestling role.

I am going to assume it is Lawler/Jericho with Jericho getting the best of Lawler and beating him down for the first third, Lawler making a comback for the second third, then Jericho cheating and beating lawler for thefinal third of a realtively short match. Not hapy wit that, Jericho will put the boots to Lawler while he is on the mat. Then the paradeof stars will come down - Flair, Piper, Snuka, Steamboat and then Lawler getting in some. Then, the music will hit and Rela American will blare and Hogan will come out to do the big boot and leg drop of death. Posing and high fives ensue, then the glass shattering and here comes Austin to drink beer with the legends and begin the pinball of Jericho as ech legend punches him back and forth until, wham, stunner. More beers, another stunner, posing, beers, fina stunner and last beer. All the while, the crowd is going ape shit for the legends, Austin, Hogan and the complete ass beating they gave Jericho.

If this match, hoever it goes, plays off right, I pity the match that follows. The crowd will be exhausted.

"Marriage is like that show ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’, but it’s not funny. All the problems are the same, but you know instead of all the funny, pithy dialogue, everybody is really pissed off and tense. Marriage is like a tense, unfunny version of 'Everybody Loves Raymond', only it doesn't last 22 minutes. It lasts forever."

I'd like to think that Lawler is a conditional red herring. If they get someone bigger, then Lawler will be a bridge program; if not, then Lawler does WM.

Although, it's kind of interesting that the one guy who personifies all of Jericho's criticism - more than anyone else - will be inducted into the HOF on April 4...Terry Funk.

Christ, I don't know if the guy can even move anymore, but he could do a great promo with Jericho and take an excellent beatdown.

Which was the WarGames where Road Warrior Hawk won by grabbing a heel by the head, dangling him by the neck, and making him submit? Was that the first one? Also... Shapiro, your little recap was likewise 2 sweet.
