According to comingsoon.netand the Hollywood reporter two new remake are on the way
The Neverending story
and Total Recall
Let me just say why in the hell would you want to remake the never ending story?Besides the fact that Falcor would look awsome in CGI. I don't think the story will get over with kids today.
Of all the remakes I've seen or heard of to date, the Neverending Story is definitely not an unnecessary one. A fully CG'ed up modern version would be glorious.

Fixed that for you.
To go in depth beyond ye net forum speak meme: it's not a sure fire win to CG up Neverending Story. You do it on the cheap, you hire bad animators, you take the attitude of "It's just a kid's movie, get some visual design intern to sketch up the concept art," etc. and you can completely bullocks it up. And I have NO faith in Hollywood giving it the tender loving care it'd need to come out better than or even equal to the original, just because new tech is applied.
I see no point in a Clue remake. The original was already a period piece and it's not like new technology would help anything.
Total Recall is a glorious wad of scifi stupid fun and the VFX were okay. There's no reason to redo it. Watch them try to make some SERIOUS story out of it instead of a colorful and screwy action mind mess.
Why does Hollywood insist on remaking movies where the expectations are set so high that there's no way to meet them? Remaking classics is just stupid. And it's not like there aren't a ton of movies from Hollywood's past which actually could be improved upon. Look at what they managed to do with Ocean's 11. They took a poor-to-mediocre Rat Pack flick and jazzed it up into a really fun caper film starring some of Hollywood's biggest talent. Honestly, I can see a lot of the same potential in remaking Total Recall (I mean, it's not even Arnold's best action picture). But to try to redo Neverending Story or Clue, I mean you might as well just try to remake The Day the Earth Stood Still.
That's Hollywood for you. Everything old is new again. I'm sorta looking forward to the Robocop remake. I LOVED the 1st one and the TV Series. The last two were aweful.
I wish they would just do another sequel and it being 20+ years later can explain why Murphey's face is different. The first one had so many good lines that I've been using a few to this day.
But this is Hollywood. Why do a sequel while you can just start over.

Wow, are all the original ideas all gone? Then again, maybe it's good money to remake stuff a lot. I mean, not only do you make money off of the newer version, but people actually go out and buy the original versions too.
"Laugh and the world laughs with you. Frown and the world laughs at you." -Me.
A few of these are also based on books and thus are not purely film remakes, but here's some off the top of my head that have been good.
The Ring The Bourne Identity The Italian Job Gone in 60 Seconds Bad News Bears I Am Legend Willy Wonka/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Plus lots of horror remakes have been pretty good. But, "wah wah, blah blah, it's not as scary was the original that I saw way back when." Well, you've grown up a lot since then. Most movies aren't as scary when you're older and/or already know the basic plot.

That and I think that whole 70's - 80's color process and film style makes horror movies look a lot scarier than the new "crisp" stuff. Maybe our brains see that older film process and it energizes the brain pathways from when we were much younger and more vulnerable... *shrug*
I just know that I can sit through modern horror movies and just get a little jumpy, but I still get totally creeped out by those older horror movies.
Of course I get totally creeped out by the new Gorton's Fisherman too...
I think the problem is that a lot of these remakes are made on name value for monetary purposes and not necessarily as re-imaginings for artistic purposes. The result is that a lot of these remakes tend to... suck.

I loved the original, and *hated* the remake - which was even more disappointing in that I've enjoyed Linklater's previous films. All of the edge of the original was gone, and, thus, it felt more like "Kicking & Screaming".
The 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers was pretty well done. The Cape Fear remake was good. The Fly remake was good. I liked Peter Jackson's King Kong as well. But that's about all I got at the moment.
We all have ways of coping. I use sex and awesomeness.
It's easy to forget that Scarface was a remake as well.
Still, I'd rather see them make a Total Recall remake than the rumoured Predator remake with John Cena as Dutch that was doing the rounds a year or two ago.

CLUE!?!?!?!?!?!?! Why?????
That's as close to a perfect movie as there ever has been.
That is about the worst news I could have ever heard. You are correct about Clue. I shudder at the thought of Lindsey Lohan as Miss Scarlett or Richard Jenkins as Professor Plum.

Let's look at the fallout from last year's thread:

and as jfkfc noted then, going to imdb with the remakes sorted by year does indeed list a bunch of entries (a good percentage of which will probably never happen).
"Fame", "Where The Wild Things Are", "The Wolf Man", "A Christmas Carol", "Howard Stern's Porky's", "The Seven Samurai", "Escape From New York", "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes", "Footloose", "The Smurfs", "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", "Logan's Run", "I Dream of Jeannie", "Clash of the Titans", "Conan", "Labyrinth", "Short Circuit", "Meatballs", "A Nightmare on Elm Street", "RoboCop", "Highlander", "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Magnum P.I.", and "Death Wish" are all movies I recognize.
Liked this a lot. Poor man's Heat. The interplay between Affleck and Jeremy Renner was pretty strong and created some genuine tension. Jon Hamm may be my favorite actor in the world right now.
