Well, I guess I'm the only one watching it so far judging by the complete lack of threads on the show so far. Really after last night's performances I think there's a reason for that. That was just an awful night. I wonder if the poor performances were because of the pressure due to so many people getting chopped each week. With 9 out of 12 folks being cast into "pray for a wildcard spot" limbo, that's not a very big gate they're trying to squeeze through. But, we soldier on...

-Jackie Tohn is delightfully insane. Shame she's in the same group as the queen of crazy Tatianna Del Toro. The tights and sneakers had to have been bringing back some horrible Jazzercise memories for all the moms in their 40's watching the show.

- Ricky Braddy has the website braddybunch.com. That's all I remember of him. And I think he sang a Leon Redbone song. Either way, considering all the time he has gotten so far, he might still be owed about 4 more minutes of fame.

- Alexis Grace was the best female singer of the night. I have to think she makes the top 12 one way or another. Even if the VFTW crowd gets Tatianna through, and someone else takes the #3 spot, she's too good for them to pass up. It would take some huge oversights by the voters for her not to get in. Oddly though, I don't much care for her. I can respect she has a good singing voice, but just something about her irks me. I hope she gets into the top 12 though, as she's certainly one of the best from this week.

- Brent Keith sings a country song. Brent Keith makes funny faces while singing. Brent Keith leaves the show. Goodbye Brent Keith.

- Stevie Wright was one of my favorites from her audition. So you can imagine how last night was to watch for me. Just an awful performance, a trainwreck of epic proportions. She might as well have done the Ashlee Simpson hoedown after her song, because really that was a career killer performance. I don't know if it was nerves, or her voice just not being ready after the long break, or demonic possession or what, but she turns in the goose egg of the night. A shame too, because she seemed like she had potential to make a run at it.

- Anoop is my fault. I was hoping he would be like a musically talented version of Ed from "Scrubs", all goofy fun. The guy was called Anoop Dawg for pete's sake. And then he turns in a soft crooning performance of a song by Monica. I can only assume that at a Wal-Mart somewhere in our great land Monica was pulling co-workers in front of the tv and telling them "see, this was my song! I used to be a star dammit!" For Anoop's sake, he best hope Monica has pull with the hiring manager at said Wal-Mart, because he will likely be gone after that performance, and deserves to be.

- Casey Carlson goes for "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" and it doesn't work well. All I can think of is Karen singing that song to Jim on "The Office" during the Phyllis/Bob Vance wedding episode. Karen's version might have been better. Bad sign for Casey.

- Michael Sarver was put in a rough spot last night. He's been pushed on the basis of likeability, but they put him in the same week as the most sympathetic guy in the entire top 36. The only thing that helps is that he could have a reasonable shot at the #3 spot, as there was not much in the way of strong performances last night. I would say he was in the top 4 vocals of the night, but really, that song needs to be retired from Idol, along with anything by Aretha, Whitney, or Celine.

- Anne Marie Boskovich sings Aretha. She doesn't sing it very well. It's less than 12 hours since I saw the performance, and the only thing I remember is her arguing with Kara. And yeah, she should have sang a different, not as good song. One that she could actually sing would be preferable.

- Stephen Fowler is the guy who couldn't remember lyrics after telling us all how easy it is to remember the lyrics. They dumped Jamar for this guy? Still makes no sense. He does "Rock With You" terribly, and the judges rip him accordingly. Seriously, how the hell did he get into the Top 36?

- Tatianna Del Toro. I love this girl. I hated her at first, but now I hope she makes it to the finals. The best part is she was at worst the second best girl of the night, and possibly the best. Having seen the youtube video of her talking about creating energy and just realizing that she is the most insane contestant I've seen on this show, I feel like they have to move her along one way or another. It took Brooke White all those weeks to get as on the verge of complete breakdown, whereas Tati is right THERE already!

- Danny Gokey started off slowly, but seemed to really turn it on in the second half of "Hero" but I have to think all he needed to do was not screw up to go through. His backstory is such a hook for people, and during all the audition/Hollywood week stuff he really did stand out IMO. I would be amazed if he doesn't get through. I'm rooting for him, even though I know it's kind of manipulative the way he's being presented.

My guesses from tonight are Danny for the guys, Alexis for the girls, Michael gets the #3 spot, and Tatianna picks up a wild card spot to bring the crazy into the Top 12.

I'm watching, of course.

Two people made good song choices, Danny and Alexis. Everyone else didn't, which means the third person will come from who was best liked heading into that night. Probably Michael, who really should have picked a slower country song(George Straitish I'm thinking), but was still ok. Maybe Anoop or Tatiana gets a wild card spot, but I haven't heard if those are judge selections or most votes or what?

As for how Danny has been "presented", he's the one that can't stop telling us about his dead wife, giving AI footage of said dead wife, etc. The boy can sing, he should stop playing the sympathy card. It's annoying.

The wild card performance night, as I understand it, consists of a field of contestants, picked by the judges (and producers, of course), that didn't make it into the Top 9. Allegedly, the field could be made up of both Top 36ers and non-Top 36ers. (I sense a comeback for Jamar.)

The three best performers from that field (as chosen by the judges, not America's votes) advance to the Top 12.

My picks from last night are pretty much in line with spf's, though I think Anoop could sneak ahead of Michael.

Nobody really disappointed me, since I didn't really expect much from the ones that crashed and burned. I was hoping Alexis would do well, and she did, so yay!

The wildcard selections are made by the judges. They get to pick three out of the 27 left regardless of vote totals.

And if the producers keep saying "tell us how this song inspires you" you give them what they want. They could have put him in a middle spot last night, asked him about how being a choir leader is helping him prepare, but instead he closed the show with a song dedicated to his late wife with appropriate photo montage (I think there was a montage, not sure though, had to FF a lot last night due to time.)

spf nailed it. Danny, Alexis, and Michael advance to the Top 12. I think from the emphasis Ryan placed on how close Anoop was to making it, that he's a lock for a Wild Card slot.

Though, I'm now left wondering something about the Wild Card. Is the Top 12 still going to be 6 guys and 6 ladies? What if the next two third place vote-getters are male? Will the Wild Card night competitors all be female?

Matt Breitzke
Matt Giraud
Kai Kalama

I'm watching as well and thought Danny, Alexis and Michael were all deserving.... but if Norman Gentle makes it, I'll just check back here in 3 months to see who won.

Norman is my American Idol right now. They shouldn't even make him be voted on. Just let him perform every week, and at the end proclaim him Co-Champion.

I'm a little disappointed that Casey Carlson let me down. I was hoping for a little Minneapolis pride. I'm kind of mad that Anoop didn't make it too, since I loved his performance on "My Perogative."

I'm not going to miss Tatiana. And I don't really care for Danny either. There's just something about him that sits very wrong with me.

My favorite contestant so far is Alexis. She's cute and a great singer. I don't know if she has a chance of winning, but she's my early favorite.
