Oh. My. God. It's like 1992 for me all over again. I remember playing SF II for the first time in a grocery store and immediately falling in love with the game. That's how I felt last night playing Street Fighter IV. The game is BEAUTIFUL. There are tons of options, challenges, and unlockables to keep you busy. The new characters are pretty good too. I got the hang of them all except for El Fuerte (who will be lethal with someone who knows how to use him). I cannot wait to go online and get thrashed by the millions of people who are better than me.

If you love Street Fighter and don't get this, then I don't know what you're doing with your life.

Well, I hope, despite the 360 icon on this thread, us PS3 owners can weigh in as well.

Yeah, I am really loving this. If ever a game was a walking advertisement for HD quality graphics, I'd say this is it. Even better, it's very easy to pick up and play without too much of a learning curve (I am having a bit of trouble with the Focus Attacks and reliably popping off an Ultra Combo) and I sorta wish the character unlocking didn't feel like a chore sometimes, but all in all, I'm really liking this game a lot.

On the one hand, I'm glad that the Parries from SF3 seem to be gone, but on the other, the computer seems to know exactly how to time its Focus Attacks to use them as a replacement for parries...

I also kind of wish some of the SF3 cast (OK, just Alex and Elena) would have made it into the game, and that Ryu and Ken would have kept their extra special moves (Ryu's Thrust Kick from SF3, and Ken's Flip Kick from Capcom vs. SNK 2), but other than that, I'm enjoying the game.

Other than the fact that I got destroyed by the computer any time it uses someone that has a command throw.

Nothing like going on Live and playing someone using El Fuerte and proceeding to get your ass handed to you. How the hell do these people get so damn good in less than 24 hours!? Don't get me wrong though, it looks and plays amazing.

Enojado, I just got my new HDTV and you're right that HD makes a huge difference. You're damn right.

Ok, after reading many reviews, I've learned that it's not just me ... Seth is impossible for everyone. Seriously, if you're not playing anything lower than easy, get ready to sit for twenty to twenty five minutes trying to beat him. I just thought I was really bad until I found this out :)

They've been playing the arcade machine. Especially if they live in a city with a huge competitive arcade scene (like NYC, LA, or San Francisco).

No shit. Of course, it doesn't help that I'm rusty as hell. I'm not sure when the last time I played SF for any amount of time was. But this is a really great game. Super fun, and not too hard to pick up. There are some new tricks in the fighting system, but nothing that's very hard to learn or work around. I wish the 360 controller had its D-pad in a better spot (yes, I'm a D-pad fighter), but the analog stick actually controls very well for a fighting game. And I don't know if anyone else shelled out for the collectors edition, but I like how the packed in movie really sets up the story of the game, and for that matter the fact that this fighting game has a story.

I haven't picked this up yet because I know I will be horrible at it and that will make me sad. Plus, I got Super SFII HD Remix (or whatever the hell it's called) back when it came out and haven't devoted enough time to it. And I could never devote enough time to either version to be any good in online play.

Having said that, I have some store credit for EB Games and I might go pick it up on my coffee break because I am dumb like that. We'll see.

The AV Club posted a review of SFIV and... wow. It's as close to a negative review as I've seen for this game, and it's clear that the writer is not an expert in the field. However, this review made it onto MetaCritic (who said that a B- equates to a 67%) and so the AV Club has been overrun by very, VERY angry nerds who can't stand the mean and stupid things that were said about this game. Most of those things were never actually said, but they're not letting that stop them. There are three full pages of comments and more just keep on coming. I found it fascinating - both because it's hilarious when people act like chumps, and because it's a look at a subculture (fighting game nerd) that I really didn't know a whole lot about. When they're not tearing the reviewer apart, they're comparing the relative depth of various fighting game series or debating the merits of different $150 arcade-style fighting joysticks. The passion that these people bring to their games is kind of incredible.

EDIT also check out the thighs on Chun-Li, holy crap

Yeah, those "command throw" guys just maul me (Seth and Zangief especially) Worse still, when you set it to "easiest" (trying to unlock everything quickly) the CPU will try to wail you with the same one or two moves.

For those of you having control issues, I recommend Mad Catz' SF4 pads (the ones that look like the old Sega Saturn controllers) I bought one and the response is crisp--hitting moves is almost ridiculously easy. Since some of you (like me) work better with pads, I figured I'd mention them.

There are too many groups of video game enthusiasts who care far too deeply for what scores a game gets. When you get "legitimate" games journalists comparing Killzone 2 to Citizen Kane, things are messed up.

It's gotten so bad that I think games reviewers shouldn't include any numerical measure at all.

Don't know how much anyone has played on Live here, but has anyone else who does notice that about 75% of people use Ken, Ryu or Akuma? Just one of those things that is annoying to me. Does anyone else prefer a character other than those three. I stick to Cammy mainly, but also Sakura, Sagat, Rose and Abel.

I've only put in a few hours on it, but I'm enjoying the game so far.

The artwork looks great, just a shame that the story cut scenes don't measure up with everything else.

If you're using Rose right you should be raking up quite a win/loss total against the fireball tossers. I love when I play one of those guys. I use Rose/Dan and just punish them. Zangief is pretty good too, because his throws are somewhat easy to pull off in SF IV.

Finally got all the characters unlocked--man, Gouken is a lot of fun to play as--he may look and play (superficially) like a Ryu clone, but he's so . . .not.

I'd suggest him as someone you could use against Ryu and Ken clones, but you have to take care to learn his counters (which are about half his moveset, but worth putting in the time for) but want the reliability of shoto moves.

They simplified the 360 motion for Zangief's moves, didn't they? Seems like I can pop off the spinning piledriver with a 3/4 circle motion now . . .

Yeah, I tried using Rose a few times but I don't quite have the timing of her reflect move down just yet. I prefer to just spiral arrow under the fireballs and get close to punish them with the spiral cannon with Cammy. I've always sucked with Zangief, never could get the 360 motions down. If anyone is ever Spoilin for a Fight(by AC/DC!) my gamertag is the same as on here.

Going all the way back to the original SF2, you could do Zangief's Spinning Piledriver with a forward > down-forward > down > up + punch motion to cheat on it. That still holds true now, I guess more people are figuring it out, is all.

I'm running amok online with Dan, because taunts beat fireballs. Or something. I actually almost landed the full Legendary Taunt on an opponent in a ranked match, but he hit me out of it right at the final jump. :(

I hit it in battle because the person had no idea what was going on. I felt like the king of the world.

The piledriver commands seem easier to do in this version. His ultra is super easy to hit and pretty devastating. Oh, and if anyone wants to play, i'm just kingofkeith on there.

Hmm . . .I never knew that, but then I never played grapplers that much, except for Sodom back in the Alpha series, and even then, pulling off the 360s and 720s was more a matter of luck than design.

I'll have to try that next time. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, the Piledriver has gotten a TON easier to pull off.

Unlocking Fei Long is like a root canal for me. I hate Abel.

Yeah, and it does a TON of damage. The really annoying move that Zangief has is the spinning lariat. Projectiles and Ultimates go through it and it also kills anything in the air. And all you have to do to use it is hit the 3Punch or 3Kick button.

When you are going through arcade mode to unlock people are you setting it on easiest with single rounds? Kinda cheap but it gets the job done very quickly. Only real pain in the ass is unlocking Seth. You have to beat arcade mode with every other character. Not a problem with most characters but Dhalsim is horrible to use against Seth in the last fight even on easiest. Of course, I've always sucked with Dhalsim.
