A former girlfriend is suing him saying he exposed her to HIV, and that he has full blown AIDS. http://blogs.usatoday.com/gameon/2009/02/lawsuit-claims.html

This suit won't go anywhere, as it alleges that Alomar knew he had AIDS all along. I really don't think this is the case. I don't even think Alomar knew he had AIDS or someone would have said something.

Unless rape or sexual assualt fo some kind was involved, he didn't force her to have unprotected sex. Sounds like a real ass but I don't know if he's libel.

Speaking of rape (and I don't remember where I read this), Alomar was supposedly raped by two Mexican men when he was 17.

He is claiming he doesn't have AIDS nor HIV. I assume this could all be settled with a blood test, no? I don't know how long the turn around would be on the results, but if he came up negative for both, I'm sure everything would be thrown out.

There's precedent for this. You may recall that word came out that Michael Vick was being sued by a woman who claimed that he gave her herpes. In that case, she claimed to have knowledge of the fact that he had visited an STD clinic (under the name "Ron Mexico"), and therefore was aware that he had the STD. However, the case was settled out of court, which doesn't necessarily prove the legal issues involved.

The lawsuit also claims that Alomar was turning purple and foaming at the mouth. I didn't realize that having AIDS turned one into My Pet Monster.

The "Ron Mexico" case isn't necessary for legal precedent here. It's common knowledge (in the courtroom at least) that knowingly transmitting an STD to someone is battery if your partner is unaware of the STD, even if you were having consensual sex.

Geez, that ESPN article totally ignores that he played for the Toronto Blue Jays. I mean, they listed the six other teams he played for. Newsflash ESPN: he won two world series titles in Toronto.

Getting back to the story: it's sad when people drag peoples' names in the mud like that.

I hope Alomar clears his name. I'm a huge fan.

No offense, but you mean the USA Today article. The ESPN one talks about his involvement with the Blue Jays *twice* in the latter half of the article:

-"Alomar was honored before the Toronto Blue Jays home opener in April and showed no obvious signs of health problems."

-"Alomar spent 17 years in the major leagues and was one of baseball's best players in the 1990s, making 12 straight All-Star appearances and winning two World Series with the Blue Jays."

That said, I hope that the charges are false, not because I not asking for Alomar to be innocent as much as I would hope he isn't having to deal with that terrible disease. I know he retired a bit early (he was only 36 when he played his last game), but I thought it was because he had done everything he wanted to in his baseball career. I hope it isn't because of his health and that he isn't suffering serious consequences with the disease like the lawsuit claims.

Great clip. I love that the announcers actually recall the whole play and that Morse even takes a cut.
