GSP dominated after a lackluster first round and BJ Penn's corner stopped the fight after the fourth. Just an awesome performance by GSP - as good as Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley performed in their two huge boxing wins - Georges St. Pierre was at their level tonight. Bring on GSP-Alves!

Good card, though.

Clay Guida eked out a razor-thin decision over Nate Diaz in the opener, which was a good scrap.

Karo Parisyian and Dong Hyun Kim had a similarly close bout, which Karo won by one point.

Jon Jones is a beast at only 21, and he thrashed Stephan Bonner for two rounds and then held on for the third to win a decision.

Lyoto Machida KOed Thiago Silva at the end of round one when Silva went to his back and Machida smashed him with a right and left as he went in for the mount.

If you had said that a Lyoto Machida fightwould be one of only two fights to end before a decision, I would have called you loony.

I thought it was a great night of fights despite the decisions. Guida/Diaz was tons of fun and any guy called Johnny "Bones" Jones will get a pop from me. He should be a radio disc jockey or blues singer with that name.

My friend was visibly crushed when BJ got manhandled. It made me think of the time when my boy Matt Hughes got manhandled by GSP.

I agree overall with odessasteps- not that there were too many decisions, but that outside of the last two bouts, it was a rather forgettable PPV.

-I really like Clay Guida, but I don't know about the decision. After the first round, it looked Diaz had control of the match. Maybe it was the stupid taunting he did, especially the crane move he did in the third round right before he landed a flurry of punches to Guida, that got the judges to go for Guida, because I had Diaz winning 29-28.

-Karo/ Hyun Kim was ok, nothing great. IMO, like Diaz in the first fight, Karo struggled in round one but rebounded to take the match in the end. At least I agree with the judges on this one.

-Jones is going to be something special and he won fairly easily. However, he really needs to learn how to finish. There were many times that he caught Bonner with some sick blows, like the spinning elbow to the head, and then he just seemed to stand there for a second too long before realizing that the fight wasn't over on those blows. Definitely a decision that I felt didn't need to be one; had he been more aggressive, the match should had been over in the first round.

-Machida landed some strong punches throughout the fight against Silva. I couldn't tell because of the crowd niose where I was watching, but was there controversy over his last two punches right as the round ended? Did he get both in on time? Either way, my biggest gripe with the PPV was Yves Lavgine (sp.?) allowing him to land that left after the right had already knocked him out (you could tell from the way the back of his head thudded on the mat and how his hands went limp from that punch).

-GSP just MAULED Penn. Exactly as JayJayDean said, after a first round feeling out each other, St. Pierre just kept taking Penn down and having his way with him on the side guard (I think), just wailing away with punches to the head and vicious knees to the ribs. Penn was clearly blown up by the second round, but you got to admire his toughness; if it was almost anyone else, they probably would had quit a round or two before he was forced to.

No controversy there at all. There replayed it and you could clearly hear the - hmmm, "buzzer", I guess - AFTER the second punch landed. And I don't know how you could criticize the ref there, because it was a quick 1-2 and he jumped in right as time expired to prevent Silva from taking shots after the bell. I've seen WAY worse discretion in UFC where a guy takes far too many unanswered shots compared to that. (IMO)

Jones has all the potential in the world, but at 21 I hope they don't push him to hard and to fast. He still got winded out there in the middle of round two and he just isn't ready for primetime ... yet. The kid could be awesome.

Machida could be awesome right now. I love his wait and wait and wait until you throw approach. He's the type of guy no top guy is going to want to face

The main event was overhyped. I'm not big on weight classes clashing, but I was letdown that Penn had the look of a beaten man earlier than I thought he should have.

Overall, it wasn't a great PPV. I see they are doing ads for UFC 97, what happens to 95 and 96?

Yeah, hopefully Thiago Alves gets his "shitle tot" with GSP. Did anyone else catch that?

I think, compared to the Lesnar-Couture PPV, that this was a bit of a let down. I really dug the Machida-Silva bout, but watching Penn get manhandled was REALLY disaapointting. I had just caught their last match on Spike, so I was hopeing for a bit more.

The ONLY interesting thing to come out of that Supreme Judo match was learning how hard Karo has apparently been affected by the recession. It was basically the equal of Kevin Garnett showing up to the NBA Finals wearing a pair of shoes he bought at Payless.
