With his WWE Championship victory, Edge became a seven-time world heavyweight champion; he's held the WWE Title four times and the World Heavyweight Title thrice.

Melina's earning of the WWE Women's Championship was her third.

By the way, I, too, am unsure if they can do this Matt Hardy heel turn right; his initial explanation will make or break it, in my opinion.

I bought it and enjoyed it. It is the first PPV since Summerslam I bought. I thought it was a pretty good show. Jack Swagger does not impress me at all, but at least the match lead to the Jeff/Edge thing later on in the show. Orton winning the Rumble was the only logical way to keep him on the show, I wished they didn't telegraph the ending, but I'll look past it due to the logic behind it. Beth beating Melina with her own foot was just awesome. I don't expect JBL/HBK for Mania, the idea of Taker/HBK especially after last night's encounter is way better. I expect Cena/Orton, Edge/HHH, Taker/HBK, Money in the Bank, Beth/Melina, Jeff/Matt and some other midcard matches for Mania. Its is not a blow away Wrestlemania as I see it, but they have surprised me in the past.

Matt wants Jeff to get out of the business (something Jeff could never do as reigning champ) because Matt is afraid that whoever is trying to kill Jeff via the "accidents" will eventually succeed. Matt came to the conclusion in his mind (rightly or wrongly) that having Jeff drop the title and quit the ring is the best way to save Jeff's life.

Or not. I have no idea how the WWE is going to advance this story line; I just wanted to point out that there could be a logical rationale for the turn. I agree with TheBucsFan that the WWE deserves the chance to explain the Hardy feud before we shit all over it. However, I also agree with ekedolphin the Matt's initial explanation will be crucial; if the WWE flubs that, then by all means, shit at will.

im surprised that no has said this yet.

My wife LOL of the rumble came when JTG and Shad came out at the same time and JTG used a dubble sideed coin to get into the rumble.

I admit the Matt turn is stupid, this further proves my theory that Jeff was never seen as a champion in the eyes of the WWE. he wins at a crappy 2nd rate ppv and loses the belt a mounth later.

I so Called that spot with Cena, HBK, and Jbl. Just not him pulling jbl on cena

Judging from the posts I've heard about from on Matt's myspace, it sounds like he already has nuclear heat with the "hardy fanbase." It probably doesn't matter to them how good the explanation might be.

JTG stole Harvey Dent's gimmick!

I loved V-Oneahhhh heel Matt Hardy a few years back, but I'm still not sure fans want to see him and Jeff feud...

My friend's comment of the night during the Rumble itself:
"skinning the cat has jumped the shark." Maybe because HBK himself wasn't in the match, everyone else had to do his spot to make up for it?

Also loved: Rey Rey's mucha Lucha move on JoMo early on (which never got a replay) and his Super Mario stomp on 2 people outside the ring. Poor Santino, poor The Kendrick (but at least he got an elimination and a dance in!). While the cameramen missed some eliminations, they also caught some amazing facials and visuals (Jericho w/the Taker leering behind him, all of Legacy menacingly moving together, some Show/Taker stuff). RVD's appearance was the mark-out moment of the night...he came back for one of those 3 hour RAW anniversary episodes last year right?

Glad I was the only one who noticed that. I'd have been embarassed to sell those had I been a wrestler in the match.

Swagger/Hardy was a good match that I missed parts of due to setting up the Rumble pool with my friends. Pretty easy to call the turn on Jeff with the post match focusing on Matts frustration.

Melina/Beth was decent with quite a few sloppy spots. The spot with Beth hitting Melina with her own foot was great, one of my favorite things I've seen in wrasslin.

For the people bragging on calling HBK superkicking both men I think all the people I watched with called it too. Decent match, but everyone was just waiting for Shawn to do something.

I was SO close to predicting the Matt turn in the predictions thread, but changed my mind at the last second. Really good match with some great nearfalls. As usual, once everyone started predicting Christians return he didn't return. I do think once he does come back it won't be for a tag feud of any sort(though I could see tag matches coming from it). I'm thinking we'll see a four-way feud between all four over the title culminating in a 4-way TLC match at Mania. Of course if they did that I'm not sure if they be able to run MITB since they wouldn't want two ladder spotfests on the card. Maybe a new gimmick type match for a guaranteed title shot? Also, who would HHH be matched up with for Mania? I'm seeing the 4-way TLC, Orton/Cena, maybe Taker/HHH, JBL/HBK career vs. cash, and I saw a story with Mickey Rourke being set up to be involved in Mania in some capacity and having called out Jericho so hell maybe Rourke/Jericho.

Rumble was good but not great. Some great spots as usual, but too many people in at times crowding the ring. I drew Dibiase, Rhodes, Taker, Jericho, and Duggan. I had an outside chance at the money in the pool with Jericho and Taker but wasn't expecting to win the $.

Great opening four guys, it's a shame the big lugs came in to ruin it.

The Kozlov/Khali segment was horrible, but at least both were eliminated in short order.

Seriously, someone tell these guys if you throw someone over stay with them and try to put them out for sure. It's so irritating to watch guys throw someone on the apron and then just ignore them. It just looks stupid.

Anyone who didn't see that ending coming must not watch much wrestling. Personally, I'm glad Orton won. I could care less about what the guy does outside the ring as long has he's entertaining on my TV.

So no Christian appearance? Or was he in the Rumble and just hasn't been mentioned yet.

I think I like Matt/Edge vs. Jeff/Christian instead of re-teaming the two teams. Really I think the best potential for a feud is Edge vs. Christian so I'm glad they are on different sides. Plus Jeff and Matt have never been GREAT on the mic (Matt was pretty good in his Mattitude days but pretty poor since then) so it's nice to pair them up with Christian and Edge who can both talk a lot better. If that's the way they go. Who knows maybe they'll go Jeff Hardy vs. the other three or every many for themselves. Or maybe Christian doesn't even go to Smackdown.

I'm gonna chime in in defense of skinning the cat last night. I really enjoyed all the eliminations-that-weren't. It was one of the aspects that made it a great Rumble in my eyes.

I mean, it's 2009. The current WWE roster is super athletic. Even monsters like Kane and Big Show have the ability to hold onto the top rope, save themselves from elimination, and pull themselves back into the ring. Why shouldn't they do so? I loved it. It's a far cry from the lumbering brutes of yesteryear who were tossed over and *had no way to save themselves*. That was dumb.

It should be hard to throw someone over the top rope, especially if they're resisting and don't want to go over. It makes perfect sense for everyone to hold on. Teasing the one foot on the floor made for good drama. And again, it showcased what great athletes all these guys are.

This was the Royal Rumble. A main event title shot at WrestleMania is at stake. Everyone should, and almost everyone did, do their damnedest to avoid elimination and stay in the match.

No Christian. I think that is why the Matt Hardy heel turn caught me so off-guard. I kept looking for CC to run through the crowd and screw Jeff.

RVD was a total surprise though. But, yeah, those clotheslines would not have taken down a drunk Hornswaggle on rollerskates and ice.

Speaking of Horny, did anyone else notice Taker kick him on his (Horny's) way out of the ring?

All in all, I thought it was a very solid show with Edge/Hardy being the highlight for me. I'm glad everyone is OK after the ladder kinda slipped on Jeff.

The Matt Hardy turn was just incredibly stupid, but Matt's last heel run was so full of awesome that I'm glad it's here in spite of the road taken to get there. Scott Keith might be on to something when he made that "Matt Hardy, Version Two" remark. The irony, of course, is that the "Matt Hardy, Version One" run ended when Matt got fired after he lost his girlfriend...to Edge.

I have a really bad feeling that Christian will actually come back on Jeff's side, just so we can have a Jeff/Christian vs. Matt/Edge tag match, which would be completely backwards.

Orton's win is such a conundrum. It's been pointed out that he's been such a pain in the ass backstage, a repeat offender, and FAR from a model citizen and yet here he is getting the main event push and the Wrestlemania main event again. But on the other hand, Orton's been drawing incredible heat since his comeback that it's almost a no-brainer that he be given that slot. The logic there, I would think, would be that John Cena be the one to finally give him his. But with some of the "cool heel" reactions that Orton's been getting, I have a feeling that the crowd reactions for that WM main event will be all kinds of ass backwards and Cena's win will get the most heat of the night...or Orton's win will get the biggest pop.

I like Jack Swagger. I think it's time he graduate from the ECW minor leagues. Can we get a Swagger/Kozlov trade going?

If Jericho face Mickey Rourke at Wrestlemania, count me among those who will pass on this PPV. This is a no win situation for jericho. If he loses to Rourke, then he lost to a previously washed up actor who portrayed a wrestler in a movie. If he beats Rourke, either convoncingly or by shenanigans, then he did what he was supposed to do and no one is impressed. I would rather Jericho take on UT and LOSE that face Rourke and WIN. Of course, in a perfect world, Vince takes away Orton's spot, a tournament to fill it starts which Jericho wins, and then Steph re-instates Orton to the ME as to cause a 3 way dance with Cena.

But alas, we will get stuck with 2 wrestlers I could care less about in the ME, Cena and Orton.

All the problems are the same, but you know instead of all the funny, pithy dialogue, everybody is really pissed off and tense. The comments on Matt Hardy's MySpace are hilarious. Totally worth the heel turn just to read the comments. There are some fans that seem to think wrestling is real and genuinely hate Matt. There are others that try to point out that wrestling is fake but their posts are just as riddled with errors. And then there are others that think they are hip and refer to Edge and Christian as Adam Copeland and Jason Reso.

I'm with Wpob I've been hoping ever since HBK/Jericho ended that Jericho would move on to UT at Wrestlemania. I can't think of any other two main eventers that (I think) have never wrestled each other on PPV before.

IMO this will be Matt's reasoning:
"I win a title and yet again I get overshadowed by Jeff who screws up repeatedly but keeps getting chances. I carried him for ten years now! It's MY time!"

Cena/JBL was good for the story.
Jeff/Edge ditto. The two of them had some nice not-so-regular transitions.
The women's match was sloppy at times but the ending looked good.

I liked the Rumble match.
Had a blast seeing all the near-eliminations/cat skinning.
Especially when Lawler started noticing and calling it too.

The fact that no big guy dominated was very cool as well.
And it did make more guys seems like a threat as they didn't just get tossed around as jobbers.
It was cool to see everyone take moves from the other guys (like HHH eating the GTS)
My friends and I predicted Kahli would come out after there were four smaller guys in the ring.
I feared he would toss em, but when he just started hitting finishers we sighed in relieve.

Santino's 1.5 second (i think it was shorter) was awesome.
Befitting of his char.
And I also predicted to my friends that Kendrick would enter, dance and get tossed. Didn't expect him tossing Koffi.

Other fun spots were Goldust vs Cody, and of course Hacksaw coming out and EVERYONE selling for him. He took down Undertaker with four punches! Unreal but fun.
