THAT was SOMETHING. Antonio Margarito took Shane Mosley's shots for nearly eight rounds, but Mosley hurt Margarito and then REALLY hurt him with the same jumping left hook that he KO'ed Ricardo Mayorga with. Between this result and Andre Berto's big win last week, I'm not sure the welterweight rankings shouldn't look like this...

1. Mosley
2. Berto
3. Margarito
4. Cotto

Though you would have to put Paul Williams and #2 or #3, I think, if he came back to 147.

Interesting that they made Margarito rewrap his hands, with Jim Lampley all but accusing the Margarito camp of doctoring his gloves (which I thought Manny Steward downplayed quite a bit). Either way, Mosley came up with an AWESOME performance.

EDIT: I forgot to mention THE undisputed highlight of the night, which was Bernard Hopkins constantly rising from his seat to shout encouragement to Mosley (his Golden Boy Promotions partner), all the while repeatedly blocking the view of Mark Wahlberg. Meanwhile, just two seats to the right of Marky Mark sat Tobey Maguire with a nice unblocked view. Highest of comedy.

I've got the (CDN)HBO for a month because I signed up for the HD package, so this was the first "big" fight I've seen live in a long time and the first I've seen in HD, which was pretty cool in its own way.

I thought Mosley was masterful -- as much as Pacquaio over De La Hoya. He certainly didn't look 37 years old. Margarito had no answer for the right hand and by the last few rounds looked like he was just tired of getting hit -- essentially the same look his opponents usually get. Margarito had a bit of spark in the second-to-last round, and Mosley almost bit on getting too aggressive, but he checked himself, went back to picking his shots a little and dictating the action and 3 minutes later it was done.

I was never a Mosley fan until the De La Hoya fight in 2000 when I thought he showed heart he'd never shown (or maybe never needed) at lightweight. He showed even more last night.

So we had the free HBO last week and I watched the Berto fight. I had never seen him fight before and he wasn't all that impressive. In fact, didn't the announcers think he had lost before the cards were read?

Harold had Collazo winning but he also gave Collazo two rounds (7 and 8) where Berto outlanded Collazo like 50 to 20 combined. I don't know what Harold was looking at, quite honestly. I made a point to catch the replay the next morning just to watch it again to see if I could figure Harold out.

I don't necessarily think Berto is second-best out of that group, but given that he's unbeaten and just beat a really good fighter in Collazo, while Cotto and now Margarito are both coming off decisive losses, I think he was to be ranked #2.

Don't get me wrong - I thought Berto won the fight, too. I was just amazed how the crew thought he might be losing, though to be fair, he had to win the 12th round to win the fight.

Before we see Kostya face Cotto, we still need Mitchell vs. Tsyzu, and personally I would like to see Hatton vs. Gatti, winner gets the winner of the other fight. Arturo has earned his crack at the top of the division.
