No love for Grand Torino, I'm surprised.

No kidding. It was an AFI top ten even.

That and the Academy LOVES Clint Eastwood. I was expecting directorial and acting noms for this one.

Perhaps there are too many Asians on the selection committee.

Days like this I wish I had my radio show where we spend an hour discussing the list. I could spend two hours on how bad the best picture list is. I was hoping JMS would get a nod for changeling or Singer for Valkyre. But those are comic books guys, so why would they get nominated.

I know, how dare they try to nominate what they think are the best movies of the year, instead of just picking the best blockbusters.

Perhaps the show would be more awesome if the Best Movie category was:
The Dark Knight
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Kung Fu Panda
Hancock
Iron Man

Those were the five biggest films worldwide last year, so I would guess the audience would be huge for that!

An unscientific poll of six year-olds and grown-ups in my house would vote thusly...

    1. Kung Fu Panda
    2. Bolt/WALL*E (tie)

I don't think WALL*E was superior, it just had a more interesting gimmick.

EDIT: Upon review, I would like to clarify - I thought KFP was TREEEEEEMENDOUS and Bolt was very, very good, so that wasn't intended as an "I hated/didn't like/poop on WALL*E"-sentiment by any means. But "Best Picture"? No. I don't even think it should be considered a lock to win Best Animated Feature Film.

However, if you saw WALL*E and you are not a regular viewer of animated films, I guess I can see how you would rated it quite highly. Like I said, there's a six year-old in my house and we see 'em all - I'd have to rate WALL*E behind The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, and Monsters Inc, just among the Pixar library.

Hey wow, since I have a niece and nephew who are 8 and 5 respectively AND a 3 year old daughter I can have unscientific polls too! WALL*E was the favorite of all, even adults like me and the wife. I've seen every Pixar movie and I'd have to place WALL*E at the top, which is saying a lot since they've all been good to great. Having taken the 3 year old to all three nominated movies I'd say WALL*E was the one that kept her attention from start to finish, while she got restless during KFP and Bolt. I highly enjoyed both of those, but they couldn't hold WALL*Es metal jockstrap.

Hmmm. Allow me to re-evaluate my otherwise fantastic edit to say what I truly meant..

EDIT: However, if you saw WALL*E and you are not a regular viewer of animated films (which may or may NOT apply to you, personally), I guess I can see how you would rated it quite highly. Like I said, there's a six year-old in my house and we see 'em all - I'd have to rate WALL*E behind The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, and Monsters Inc, just among the Pixar library.

I certainly wasn't TRYING to play and kind of "animated film EXPERT"-card, there. Clearly you liked WALL*E more than me (and my family). I did, in fact, take that very poll last night and came up with these surprising (to me) results.

1. Bolt
2. Kung Fu Panda
3. WALL*E

However, I WOULD watch WALL*E for 24 hours straight if that meant Dwoney would win Best Supporting Actor. :)

JayJay, I guess it's just obvious the kids in my family just have much better taste in movies.

It's okay Shane, I liked Horton too.

It is close, but for me it goes

1. WALL*E
1a. Kung Fo Panda
2. Bolt
3. Horton (I did not mind it)

The tipping point to me was that I was totally engrossed in the first 30 minutes of so of the movie and not one piece of dialogue was "spoken". The movie itself was aweome, that point made it a little more awesome-er.

KFP was great and I loved the message and thought all the charactrs were fantastic. My only complaint, and it is a small one, is the lack of character development of the Furious 5. They were grossly underused and I demand a Furious 5 prequel!!

"Marriage is like that show ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’, but it’s not funny. All the problems are the same, but you know instead of all the funny, pithy dialogue, everybody is really pissed off and tense. Marriage is like a tense, unfunny version of 'Everybody Loves Raymond', only it doesn't last 22 minutes. It lasts forever."

The "I am Iron Man" from the end was freakin' awesome! I already love this movie and it's 8 months away. I don't really get the plot they showed though. Stark gets captured by some guys who want him to build a missile in some random workshop?
