My Xbox 360 has suddenly developed a problem that I'm wondering if it is worth sending back to get fixed or just buy a new one with a fresh warranty since mine has run out.

The problem is when you put a game, dvd or music cd into the console, the screen says READING for a little bit and then OPEN TRAY appears on the screen. The disc doesn't sound like it's spinning inside the console. I've tried the tapping on the console trick:

And it does work. But it's a pain in the butt and I would rather just dig out my wallet and fix the problem rather than constantly have to tap on my console for 5 minutes until the game starts working. Has anyone ever had this problem (or knows anyone)and knows what Microsoft will charge me to fix it ? Or should I just buy the $199 system and start out fresh with a brand new warranty ? If the repair is something like a $100, then I'll probably just get a new system because the one I have could be due for another "3 rings of death" and I think Microsoft's extended three year warranty has run out on my console. I have already sent my system back 2 times for the "three rings" problem.

I wonder if Microsoft lets you buy an extended warranty ?

If I didn't have so many 360 games I would probably just replace my system with a PS3.

I just recently borrowed Soul Calibur IV from a friend and every time I try to play it I get a message saying "Please put the disc in an Xbox 360". WHAT THE F DO YOU THINK ITS IN!!! Yeah, I'm wanting a new on myself.

My 360 will do that with Madden 07 only. Every other disc plays fine. It's still a funny message to get with a 360 game in the drive.

That was a common problem with the early EA games on the 360, but I don't know if EA found a fix for it lately or not. Haven't bought one of their football games in a while.

With my birthday on Friday, this is good timing as I am getting one family member to buy me Assassin's Creed, and another family member is getting me the money for Zelda. Now I just have to continue to not listen to my mind telling me to buy Skyrim.
