The Quick n Dirty for TNA Impact 1.15.09, from the Impact Zone.

- The show opens with the MEM (sans Kevin Nash, who is recovering from surgery) coming down, dressed to compete. Kurt Angle puts his group over, saying they've delivered on the promise of creating the greatest group of champions ever. He further promises that the war ends tonight when he takes on AJ Styles. That should be a fun main event. That leads to a video package of MEM's "Greatest Hits." Impressive. He wants to address Foley, but Hernandez comes down with ref Shane Sewell (I thought he was fired as a ref. What gives?) to cash in his Feast or Fired World Title shot right now! That segues into...

TNA World Heavyweight Title: Hernandez over Sting via DQ (Bookerference) in about 4 minutes. Big Tex Mex had his moments in this match, which was very refreshing. It could've done with more time, though. A nice ploy, nonetheless.

- Post match, the Mafia swarm Hernandez to beat the hell out him. Homicide tries to save him, but to no avail. Finally, AJ and Team 3D (Complete with Mohawk Brother Ray) come down to turn the tide, putting Angle through a table. That had the crowd going batshit, so they must be doing something right.

- After the break, 3D have the mic. Devon calls them the tag-team standard bearers, but they have one regret - they haven't done much in their singles careers. Reverend D-Von, anyone? In any case, he challenges Angle to a match at Against All Odds. Oh, good god. Ray says that lying in a dumpster is nothing compared to real Mafia hits, so he came back. He says while the MEM are all dicks, Sting is much worse, because he knew what was wrong, and he did nothing to stop it. So he challenges Sting to a match at Against All Odds. Well, there goes that PPV's chance of being good.

- Elsewhere, The Beautiful People are really excited about being at the "Inauguration" on Jan 20. Ugh. Kip lets them know that they're on their own. I guess he'll be hanging with the Mafia from now on. How long must this go on?

- Tenay and West show us some highlights of Jarrett v Angle at Genesis.

- We get a highlight package of all the TBP/Palin bullshit. They come down to the ring, and Palin says that TBP have proven themselves to be good role models. They all sign the paperwork, but Roxxi and Taylor Wilde come down to call TBP phony and plastic. Hurricane Helms doesn't mind. "I think Velvet's are real." - West. Roxxi finally lets the cat out of the bag by calling them "hoes" and lets them know that Palin isn't Palin and they got punked. They also get "mucked," which means they get a bunch a slop coming off the ceiling on their heads. TBP are left crying in the ring. Hopefully that kills this angle dead. And hopefully that leads to Daffney being an active competitor on the Knockouts roster.

- Lauren is backstage with the KONG-Tourage. Sojourner Bolt handles most of the mic duties, railing on all the face Knockouts, leading to a Rough Cuts segment. Again, what's up with TNA cutting face Rough Cuts on heel talent? Last week's version with James Storm seriously left me wondering why I was supposed to hate him.

Match 2: Streetfight: ODB, Taylor Wilde, and Roxxi over The KONG-Tourage when Roxxi pinned Rhaka Khan with the Voodoo Drop in about 10 mins. Wow, a match! It was pretty decent, the faces can all work pretty well, but good god, Khan sucks a big one. It was strange to see Roxxi get the pin when ODB is the one who's getting the next title shot.

- Backstage, Booker tells Angle to relax and let him handle this.

Tag Title No.1 Contendership: Lethal Consequences (tm Karlos) over Abyss and Matt Morgan when Abyss powerbombed Lethal onto Morgan in about 9 minutes. That was more an angle advancement for Abyss/Morgan, combined with the silly finish. In any case, it frees up Lethal Consequences to feud with Beer Money, which should be good.

- Post match, Abyss and Matt Morgan go at each other, and have to be separated by security. Who'd be the heel in that feud?

- Backstage, Cornette tells the Mafia that they need to pick a replacement for Angle. Booker suggests a game of "Iney Meeney Miney." Really? Cornette takes the executive decision, putting Steiner in the match. He threatens Mafia members with a monumental fine if they interfere.

- Elsewhere, Foley promises to take out any Mafia member looking to poke his nose in tonight's match. No more games, promises Mick.

Match 4: AJ Styles over Scott Steiner via Petey-ference and Pele in about 15 minutes. Apart from Steiner nearly killing Styles with one of those belly-to-belly suplexes, this was a fine little TV main event, and far better than it had any right to be, with Steiner involved. I marked for the return of Petey, and the overbooked cluster of an ending actually worked. Yay.

- End Show.

Wrestling Counter: 38 minutes.

**This episode of Impact had more wrestling than any I can remember in quite some while. The solid main event and the super HOT opening segment easily make this a good show. I love how they've used Genesis as sort of the turning point for the Frontline to start getting their heat back. Also, they put a stop to the Palin bullshit, established two new feuds I'm looking forward to, and improved the pacing of the show with better placement of commercials. Kudos to TNA for that. You've got me hooked.

I shall welcome the end of the Palin crap. I really don't understand what the point of not having the Beautiful People wrestle for the past 2 months. I think Angel is pretty good and Talia is pretty over even if she is horrible.

Sting vs. Brother Ray? Okay, I guess... Kurt vs. Devon? Eww. I understand letting Sting and Kurt each get a new member of the Frontline each PPV so they have different matches every month but AJ is going to be stuck with Steiner, Booker and Nash/Kip matches for the rest of his life. That sucks. This is why I think somebody like Shelley, Sabin, Daniels, Hernandez, Homicide or Morgan should join the Mafia either as a turncoat or the Mafia's choice for the future of the company.

Maybe the Foley/MCMG feud will reappear and AJ will tag with Foley against MCMG?

Hernandez could be the Latino John Cena based on this evening alone. I don't think he and Steiner knew what that corner spot was supposed to be during the beatdown. Steiner seemed to go for an overhead suplex, and Hernandez seemed to move for a Downward Spiral. The result was an over-the-shoulder DDT that looked nasty.

Brother Ray's match against Sting may be worth it for the promos alone. I don't see Devon having any advantage against Angle, even if it's made into a tables match.

TNA doesn't seem to edit out the language like before. Until Borash says "ass" during the Rough Cut segment. But Ray just said that clearly half an hour before.

Gov. Palin was DAFFNEY?! Oh, God, I missed her.

SoJo gave a solid promo, and she be the voice of the Kongterouge. What is the point of a "street fight" if no one uses a weapon?

Booker dropped the accent. Good.

Why does security break up brawling tag partners but don't stop a MEM/Frontline fight?

This is the first Impact I've watched start to finish in a while and I can't say I am impressed. Okay, they waste Herandez's title shot on the opening match of an Impact? It was wasting it, I don't care that he looked well. It was a stupid thing to do. He has a title shot whenever he wants and he just spends it like that? I'm not looking forward to two team 3D singles matches at a PPV. The knockout segments were awful. Beyond awful. The Beautiful People thing was probably the least funniest thing I've seen in a while. The main event wasn't worth the payoff, but at least it didn't end up with someone being bloodied and the MEM standing tall. Is Morgan/Abyss ever going to get a payoff or was that it? I'm all for slow builds but they are killing the angle by doing this crap.

Show was really bad last night. Team 3d going singles again? Really!? Last time I checked neither got anywhere near over as singles wrestlers. D-von became an evil reverend. Worst yet Reverend D-Von introduced Batista if I'm not mistaken making me really hate his singles run. I can see a Team LAX singles run over 3D. In fact I really wish that was what they were offering.

No mention of the new X division champion either. Where are my new 30 Rock episodes when I need them?

Matt Hardy was a quality wrestler to watch. He was able to change his character into a somewhat respectable heel. Once him and Matt split he made a name for himself, keeping the same image and mentality of the old Hardy Boys.
