It seems that Matt Hardy and Eric Bischoff may be involved in a war of the words soon.

Recently on his MySpace blog, Matt commented on the movie The Wrestler (among other things) and gave his opinion that today's wrestlers are more intelligent and more responsible than the wrestlers of the 80s and 90s.

Eric Bischoff responded to that claim in HIS blog (also among other topics) by labeling Matt a "friggin idiot" and pointed out his brother's problems with drugs.

Two things here. One, I think that Matt is really just towing the company line here. The idea that there are no performers with drug problems in today's WWE, that was a problem from years ago.

But Matt really should have used better judgement, considering his brother's problems with drugs and alcohol as recent as a few months ago.

The other thing is, while Eric's criticism may be valid. I didn't think he needed to degrade Matt by calling him a "mid-card talent that should be grateful to even get a check every other week." That's a bit harsh.

Curious to see if Matt, Jeff or anyone else from the WWE responds to Eric.

I guess Matt didn't hear that Vince doesn't want his employees seeing the movie or talking about it.

I think JBL wrote about it as well on WWE.com.

Well, that's par for the course with Bischoff. I remember when Lance Storm made some valid criticisms of Bischoff's book, and Bischoff responded not by addressing his complaints, but by slagging him personally, making a comment to the effect that Storm was just bitter that he didn't achieve what he wanted to in wrestling. I remember Storm picking him apart pretty good in his response to that, too.

It think the merit of Matt's - or Eric's - argument matters much less to Eric Bischoff than that people are talking about Eric Bischoff and making him seem more relevant in 2009.

Who's actually reading Eric Bischoff's website when he's not talking about what someone else said on another site?

Yep. In fact, JBL according to this (lordsofpain.net) not just saw it, he enjoy it a good bit apperently. The only thing was that he made a note to point out the 'business' in the movie was/is different to how it's conducted in the WWE today. Read into that what you will, but I'll say he at least has a fair point about it being more strigent in its testing than before. Is it enough? Maybe, maybe not: I think they could do more, but I'm sure opinions would vary depending on how much you think the WWE and other companies should monitor their employees.

So with that being said, from reading his blog, it sounds like Matt has a similar view of the movie to JBL. Whether this is their real opinion or them towing the company line depends on how much you think the WWE is trying to control what they say.

Oh, and as far as Bischoff reply's goes? Pretty damn stupid, if you ask me. Say what you will about Jeff's troubles, Matt is not his brother's keeper. And while I like Bischoff, going into name calling never helps your cause. Doesn't he have enough to do producing reality shows with Jason Hervey?

He'll never learn.

Maybe Bischoff will come back to manage and/or have sex with Edge.

Is ERIC getting a check every week?

He is getting one for being an executive producer. He has credits for being an EP on the last two seasons of Scott Baio's VH1 show.

When either is done well, it can work on its own and draw a good reaction. But, wrestling that defines and shapes a character's stories are what I prefer to see.
