I was so pleased when Fuentes was signed out of the division, because I knew either the Brewers or the Cardinals would talk themselves into Trevor Hoffman and it'll go very badly. Halfway there!
I should be shocked that the Dodgers can't seem to close any deals with the pitchers they're looking for. But considering the pitchers on their shopping list were Trevor Hoffman and Randy Johnson, I'm actually more relieved than anything.
But I guess it's happy time in Milwaukee. Because...well...it's not Eric Gagne. ANYONE is an improvement over Eric Gagne.
(edited by Big Bad on 8.1.09 2319) Skinner: Well, I was wrong. The lizards are a godsend. Lisa: But isn't that a bit short-sighted? What happens when we're overrun by lizards? Skinner: No problem. We simply release wave after wave of Chinese needle snakes. They'll wipe out the lizards. Lisa: But aren't the snakes even worse? Skinner: Yes, but we're prepared for that. We've lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat. Lisa: But then we're stuck with gorillas! Skinner: No, that's the beautiful part. When wintertime rolls around, the gorillas simply freeze to death!

Speaking as a Giants fan, I'm very happy with the Randy Johnson pickup. Especially since it came for a) only one year and b) less than $10 million. He was quietly very effective and durable last year, despite his age. Unless he falls off a cliff and he gives them ~150+ reasonable innings, it should be a bargain.

Very well said. I can see the Brewers making the post season again, only to have the Hoff give it up for them. As his history suggests.

I'm just waiting for the Milton Bradley vs. Lou Pinella Death Match.
