Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard! Good luck to those down south.

They warned him...he did it anyway.

From the AP:

BOSTON (AP) - Boston College has fired Jeff Jagodzinski because he interviewed for the New York Jets coaching job.
A person with knowledge of the decision tells The Associated Press that Jagodzinski (jay-guh-ZIN'-skee) was fired Wednesday by athletic director Gene DeFilippo. The person spoke on condition on anonymity because the dismissal had not been announced.
DeFilippo had warned Jagodzinski on Saturday that his job would be in jeopardy if he went through with the interview. Jagodzinski met with the Jets on Tuesday night.
DeFilippo has said he wants a coach who will stay at the school long term. Jagodzinski has been with BC for two years and has three years left on his contract.
BC has called a news conference for later Wednesday.

All foretold in an ESPN article.

Wow, that was fast...somebody already put it on his Wikipedia article.

(We native Wisconsinites remember Jagodzinski, a Milwaukee native, as Packers tight ends coach from 1999-2003 and offensive coordinator in 2006.)

I think he wants out. A bit extreme but he didn't warn them re the interview ahead of time and he does have a contract.

A ridiculous thing to do. Unless you've got a no-compete clause in your contract, it's totally within a person's right to look for better jobs. BC is acting like they're Notre Dame or USC or something.

I agree BC is being high-handed but he signed a specified contract with provisions in it. It's not no compete but honoring your obligation (depending on what's in the contract). Since kids go to play for coaches, I understand BC's position. I also understand his.

It is time for the NCAA to update its rules. If you go to a school and the coach leaves for greener pastures, let the kids leave without sitting out.

BC, that paragon of virtue, the school that backed out of the Big East to weasily join the ACC.

Of course they bolted the Big East after leading the charge that Syracuse, Va. Tech and Miami shouldn't be able to leave the conference. Not a great day for Boston Catholic, as they fire the football coach because he dared to interview for an NFL job, while the basketball team turns around from knocking off #1 North Carolina on the road to lose at home to Harvard.

I kind of agree, but you have to be careful there. Do you make the rule that if the "head coach" leaves you can do that? Say at FSU, of course, where the position coaches recruit the kids they need. You have some who say openly that sure Bobby is neat but they are coming to this school because they want to be coached by Micky Andrews or Rick Tricket. I think they could make a strong case that it should apply to them too. Could lead to some kids abusing it I would bet.

Parity is a great thing - it gives the ability for every team to have a chance to win it all... ... except for the Browns, who shall forevermore suck. What a crappy, crappy game. This year is over, fold it up and go home.
- whatever, Ah, parity (2003)
