Last summer, I told Aaron about this crazy idea I had to repurpose all our content by placing it seven years in its future. He told me it was a lame idea (I believe I am paraphrasing here). Nonetheless, I wanted to see what it would look like and how it might turn out, so now we have a new reality - the reality of people in 2002 having no idea that we would be watching their discussions all over again in 2009.
Not only can you marvel at just what kinda crap we'd put up with back when we were getting off the ground, see what ezboard behaviour persisted well into the life of THIS board, but you can also ANSWER them by posting brand new 2009 replies to 2002 content. New posts won't count towards post count and the restriction of not being able to reply to yourself has been removed, so go hog wild...or don't. You should always be able to tell via timestamps whether or not something is from back then...or now.
If anything seems particularly ironic and you want to share it with the world, we have the whole slew of social networking options on every thread page just like we do here.
We also have a newsfeed set up from their index page, as well as a Twitter account at http://twitter.com/The_7.
As I have said in a couple places, this is either the most interesting thing I've ever done, or the dumbest thing I've ever done. Or maybe both.
It's certainly going to be neat to see how things evolved over the last seven years. Not just the board itself, but the posters as well. I know my activity, posting style, and overall maturity (don't laugh) have changed drastically over those years.
I also noticed you sent out an E-Mail inviting those who have registered at any point with The W. This could be like Troll Amensty all over again!
A great idea, Zed. Yet one more reason why The W is one of the Best Places to Be on the Interwebs.
EDIT: I just posted there in a thread and I noticed something interesting. When you post something it gives today's date and time on the main index (just like it does today). When time passes and someone posts again seven years ago, it gets treated as a "new" post in the thread even though your post is seven years newer.

I glanced through a couple of threads, & only 2 posts didn't show up as "You are ignoring people with ratings lower than 0.50", including some people that I'm sure have never been low-rated. Bad feature interaction?

Hmm, maybe there are some zeroes where there shouldn't be. I'll take a look.
I've actually known about this for awhile, since I started following "The W" on Twitter a couple weeks ago and stumbled across the Twitter for "The 7."
Though I didn't follow it on Twitter, I've been checking it periodically and been meaning to tell you that I think it's really goddamn cool idea. It's like "Back to the Future," except on The W. And without Biff or his goons, specifically that kid wearing the 3-D glasses.

Sure enough, we were doing some zeroes instead of NULLs. Strangely, I must have had this problem back when I first did the ratings, because I already had code written for it. I have no idea how it missed getting into the new code. Well, it's there now.

I hope you meant Guest Columns after all. I have fixed the reply power levels on it. Recap Feedback looked fine. You will even be able to add a reply on Banished, when threads finally start showing up there...because what fun would it be if we didn't all point and laugh?

I think you were the only one. What I've learned is that Twitter isn't followed too much, and NOBODY wants to dig into the list of badges I have posted at CRZ.net. I am the MASTER of security through obscurity in plain view.
For anybody who wants to join me tommorow in re-reviewing the 1/3/02 Smackdown! I'll be finding an archive sometime this weekend.
Super Smaaaaark!
Also: I have another question. If somebody's post was deleted, either by an admin or themselves, will it populate pre-deleted, or will the post be there until the time it was deleted?

This alone makes The 7 the greatest feature to hit this board. ESPECIALLY if the people who were banished return!!
EDIT: Zed, is there a way on the main index page to see when someone puts a new post in an old thread *after* an old post gets puts on later?

Including the infamous TopTenPro? That'd be hilarious!

I think the best way is to click on "Last 100 posts" and find the ones with 2009 timestamps on 'em.

We didn't get anal-retentive with that stuff until at least ten thousand posts in, so they're gone forever. (In fact, there are a lot of deleted posts that don't even have "deleted by" placeholders - in the old days, when we deleted something, it was just GONE, baby.) Anywho, posts that are deleted will show up deleted, because we just inject them based on what they look like on THIS place, so....yup.
I suppose for the authentic experience we could go back and painfully reconstrcut whatever crap was so awful that we had no choice but to delete it, but.....there are some lines best left uncrossed. ;-)
Wait, this is kind of weird. I posted something on the 2nd and now the posts from seven years ago on the 3rd are showing up after my post now. I didn't think it was going to be like that and now it feels kind of creepy and weird. Didn't Doc say something to Marty about fucking with the time continuum?
So what happens in January 2016 when we all get here again? I predict the apocalypse. Either way, I'll be sure to hold on to the Horn of Eld this time.

I've added a link to the index page to only show posts from 2009. (Showing 100 posts when people were adding HUNDREDS of posts in a day got the 2009 ones buried pretty quickly)

Just noticed the "new" link now. Thanks for adding it, as it makes it much easier to find the most "recent/new" posts.
You know, I really don't know what to put here. Close your eyes and thank of something funny!
Actually I did mean Recap Feedback. When I go into a thread there, I have no Reply or Quote buttons on any posts, and the New reply link leads me to "Sorry, but you are not allowed to post, as you are either banned from this board, or don't meet the restrictions placed on it for posting. Click here to return to the thread, or wait to get redirected. "
But something is wrong in Guest Columns. The post I just made is listed as happening in 2002.
EDIT: And also, is there an issue with replying to the first thread in each forum? I wanted to mention how that Tineblas, Alushe, & Tineblas Jr. picture creeps me out.

OK. I found a couple places where thread expiration was still happening (it wasn't supposed to, and doesn't now) and we were making some checks before allowing replies (we don't now). Because we're talking about forums which have since been closed and removed from The W, there's a couple roadblocks we put up which I had to take back down.
The deal with the timestamps will occasionally happen when two posts - a 2002 one and a 2009 one - have the same "date." This will happen more often than you'd expect for reasons I'm not going to bother going into now, but it's something I still need to code around (when it bothers me enough to force me into getting around to it). They'll still show up right in thread view, even if they don't in forum/index view.
