The Quick and Dirty for TNA Impact 12.11.2008 from the Impact Zone. I must say, that's a shitty title for this week.

- The show opens with the MEM, with Kurt Angle saying that Final Resolution went exactly the same way he wanted. He says JJ got jealous as Angle rose to the top of TNA, and claims that Jarrett has tried to kill Angle's career. He then channels his psychotic alter ego, going cold on JJ and his daughters. He promises JJ that nothing good will come out their match and that Jeff should buy his girls some wonderful Christmas gifts so they can remember him forever.

*Now, that's what I'm talking about! Make the feud personal. This was some good shit.

- The segment continues as AJ Styles comes down for some words with Sting. MEM invite him to the ring, so he asks them to clear the ring because it's between him and Sting. They exchange heated words, leading to an altercation, leading to MEM beating the shit out AJ. No Sting participation, mind you. T-NAF come down to clear the ring, and Angle promises that one member of the Frontline will be wiped out for good before the night is out. Hmm.

- Elsewhere, JJ promises to be a full-time wrestler. Well, damn. He hands the keys to Mick Foley, who promises to pay the MEM a visit later tonight.

- West and Tenay announce the X-Division Title Tourney. It segues into an interview with the MCMG, where Alex Shelley (once again) gets the line of the night, wondering if they "need a good cheat code" to get rid of Suicide. Shelley makes a personal agenda to win the tourney, because Detroit needs heroes. Shelley is gold on the mic.

X-Division Title Tourney QF: Eric Young over Sheik Abdul Bashir via Northern Lights Suplex in 3:16. Well, so much for Bashir's push. I guess they're serious about moving Young up the card, because he's discarded the comedy act, and has been getting some strong wins recently.

- Backstage, Team 3D give another pep talk, but actually do a good job of putting over the T-NAF. Ray heads to the ring (after a drink from ODB's flask, which is not a good idea) to make Angle an offer he can't refuse.

- Elsewhere, JB tries to shill the TNA Hotline, which is such a sad ploy. He catches Foley coming out the MEM locker room, and Foley makes some ambiguous statements about the MEM being nice guys who are misunderstood. Really?

- Elsewhere still, The Beautiful People are still with "Sarah Palin." Ugh. Nothing good comes of it.

- Brutus Magnus is coming to TNA, soon!

X-Division Title Tourney QF: Alex Shelley over Jay Lethal via Schwein(!) in 1:58. Nothing match. Lethal focused on Sabin and paid for it. Afterwards, MCMG demand that Foley come to the ring and give them the tag shots that Lethal won at FR. Suicide shows up instead to clean house on them, including a Sunset Bomb on Sabin. I personally feel that Melina does that move better, but that's probably because she's infinitely hot.

- Elsewhere, Matt Morgan berates Abyss for being stupid. Well, you'd think he knew that since day one. He tells him to wipe out Storm tonight. Strangely interesting promo.

- Rough Cuts on James Storm. Good shit.

Beer Bottle on a Pole: James Storm over Abyss via interference, low blow, and chair shot in 3:40. Another shitty match. Afterward, Morgan tries taking on Beer Money but gets a beer bottle shot for his troubles. Abyss makes the save.

- Backstage, Nash rails on the Frontline.

- Brother Ray heads to the ring and calls Angle out. He proposes Ray v Angle tonight and they shake on the condition that both their respective factions will leave the building. Ray lays the badmouth on him, but Angle just eyeballs him and leaves. The promo work was pretty good here, but I don't have too many hopes from the match.

- Ray and Angle convince their respective troops to leave. Angle gets a nice line about ordering a Steak for him because it's not gonna take too long. Finally, they all leave.

- Elsewhere, The Beautiful People have received their makeover and are less than thrilled. "Palin" compares them to Beyonce, which cheers them up a bit. Cute Kip shows up to lick some ass, but gets ignored.

Feast or Fired: Hernandez gets the World Title Shot, Homicide gets the X-Division shot, and Curry Man gets fired. Thank god for that. Suppose we'll see Christopher Daniels at the upcoming PPV.

Match 4: Christy Hemme over Sojourner Bolt via Sunset Flip in 3:32. Weren't they partners two weeks ago? This was ok, some nice back and forth, but Hemme's like the Maria of TNA, only worse.

- Elsewhere, Lauren explains to Curry Man that he's fired. Fillertastic.

Match 5: Kurt Angle and Brother Ray fought to a no-contest via Sportz Entertainment(tm) finish in about 9 mins. What's shitty is that the match was thrown out during the commercial break. There was a lot of intensity in the early going, so it had promise. Ray went through the stage wall and was bleeding all over the damn place.

- Post match, they brawled all over the arena, with Ray promising to end Angle's career. Unfortunately, he's stupid, and the MEM are hanging around to kill him with trashcans, lead pipes, and such. They toss him in the dumpster, while Sting walks away. What a puss. End show.

Wrestling Counter: 21 minutes.

** Good on the mic, nothing in the ring. The fact that TNA puts on 20 minutes of wrestling on a two-hour show is insulting. The story is interesting, but the MEM has so much momentum and have been booked so dominant that the Frontline look like clueless chumps, and have no momentum. Plus, what happened to solidifying Joe and AJ?

I enjoyed the show alright.

A few quick thoughts:

Some Googling around suggests that "Brutus Magnus" is Nick Aldis, from the British version of American Gladiator. I don't know much about him -- Wikipedia says he's a swimmer and tennis player. He looks like a swimmer.

There were a couple of nice reactions from wrestlers tonight. I liked the way Matt Morgan sold the bottle shot -- with a sort of slow, confused topple. There was also a great shot of Brother Ray during the beat down where he broke free for a moment and tried to run away (!) (just before they tossed him in the dumpster).

Finally, Curry Man was great explaining to Lauren that since he opened the case that said "FIRED!", that that meant Curry Man would be getting a shot at the "Fired Championship." Awww! Curry Man! The straight-faced farewell montage was pretty great as well.

I've been skipping over the Sarah Palin stuff as fast as I possibly can, but I read somewhere that it's Daffney! Wikipedia agrees. This won't make me watch these segments or anything, of course, but maybe this is actually going to lead to something in the ring. Good thing or bad thing? I dunno.

This was surprisingly okay, I agree with you -- but I think Hemme's definitely improving. It's not by leaps and bounds, and I am definitely not sure that I agree with TNA's apparent plan to make her the next Gail Kim, but she's trying hard.

She and Bolt were partners a few weeks ago, yes, and they shook hands at the beginning of this match; there's no continuity issue here, I don't think. Of course, Bolt turned heel after the match was over -- I figured this was coming, because one thing that's consistent in TNA is that all black women are evil. (kidding!) (sort of!)

No, I think they rang the bell right after we came back. Doesn't really matter either way, practically speaking, but yeah.

Anything else? Hmm, it'll sure be nice when Kaz comes back. I wonder if this is Suicide thing is a "Kaz" storyline or if it will be more of a Curry Man deal.

Why the Frontline so dumb? Are they EVER gonna get one over on the MEM?

I turned in on just in time for Lethal's intro and match, then Suicide cleaning house. I changed channels after Suicide started doing the jeff hardy "points at the face with his thumbs sticking out" thingy. Seriously? Why not do the Orton "I am so fucking cute stand on the rope in the corner thingy" while doing the Hardyism. If you're going to rip off one, why not do a little bit of everyone. He could carry a 2x4 with a big green X on it, too.

I really really really hate the Suicide gimmick. From the coming in HBK-style on a zipline, to the outfit, to Low-ki awkwardly trying not to move like himself, to West and Tenay trying to sell it that reality has blurred and polygons have become reality, and the awkward finishing maneuver. Not only that but it seems they are setting him up in a fued with the only guys In TNA I truly care for and killing them. I've never considered not watching Impact anymore until this idiocy. Even Pac-Man Jones wasn't this mindlessly stupid. At least Shelley and Sabin have something to do, though I'm hoping that Foley abuse, being outsiders within Frontline, and Suicide somehow leads them to being traitors and defecting to MEM.

It's good that after family tragedy, and serious injury James Storm made it into TNA. He's been becoming a new favorite of mine with his hilarious promos.

Soujourner Bolt looks hot. She also kinda looks like Jada Fire. I wonder are they gonna make an evil black chick stable?

Pretty sure Suicide is indeed Kaz, and not the Ki-Master.

I'm not sure TNA have anything long-term planned for Suicide anyway. He was supposed to be a cross-promotion deal for the game, but Kaz's injury put that on hold. Reports are that Kazarian's still not 100%, so I'm not sure how he can go in the ring. His current involvement is mostly meaningless in the larger picture unless Foley can somehow explain why Suicide pops up every time the MCMG call for Foley.

I don't think it's a Curry Man story. TNA would have to be beyond stupid to have Daniels come back as anything other than...Daniels. While they're certainly capable of that, I have a gut feeling they wont. A returning Daniels would most definitely be a face (also the foreshadowing from AJ last week), so I don't see him having issues with Suicide.

You think they'll have Kaz in the costume right now and then reveal it to be Daniels later, or something?

What does it say about me that I'm more inclined to see the show based on this statement than anything else presented in this thread?

Cena can't be beat because he's some unholy genetic recombinate of superstars past. I mean, you might as well call him John "Realest of the Real, Sargent Rock - Cold - A - Mania" Cena.

No mention of Christian, again. Does this mean he's officially gone? Or maybe this was already confirmed and I missed it?

21 minutes of action is pretty lame, but the TV shows have always been about selling PPV and live shows. They aren't giving too much away for free. But if your X tournament is on TV, you would hope we would get more than 2 minutes out of Shelley and Lethal! That was very disappointing.

Decent show over all. The promos are solid across the board, and that is something you couldn't say a few years ago.

Brother Ray's promo was good...but it (and the ensuing storyline) seemed to be trying to sell a stipulation that didn't exist. A whole long thing how there could be bloodshed, there could be careers ended, TNA itself could fall apart...so let's have a match. Needed a payoff for all that.

I don't like having a title held up and a tourney when it isn't necessary--save it for when someone gets hurt or whatever. The X division title continues to be treated as small-time.

That's DAFFNEY?!?! Wow. Didn't recognize her at all. I'd be happy to see her back in the ring though. What i can't figure out is why they're taking such pains not to actually say that it isn't Palin. It's obvious that everyone on the show except Angelina and Velvet know it's not her, but no one will *say* it. Also, TBP not only are stupid enough to think that's really Palin, they seem to be stupid enough to think that Palin won, and is going to be President, since they think Palin is inviting them to the White House.

Oh, no, sorry I wasn't clear. What I meant was: Is Suicide going to turn out to be Kaz in storyline -- like, Suicide pulls off the mask and is revealed to be Kaz -- or is Suicide going to be a completely separate character, like Curry Man is a separate character from Daniels. I was just drawing a parallel, not implying that Daniels would be involved with Suicide in any way.

I really don't like the Angle/Jarrett storyline. I know it's pro wrestling, and I know I should suspend belief when I watch it, but there's something really creepy about bringing in Jill Jarrett's passing into a feud, and saying that Angle's going to (effectively) murder Jeff, or anything. Sorry, but not only is it creepy, it's almost uncomfortable.

I will miss Curry Man - but I guess if it brings back Christopher Daniels, I'm happy.

AJ Styles on the mic is incredible. The man knows how to run a promo.

I would love to see Hernandez win the world title.

Shelley's line about winning the X division title "because Detroit needs heroes" was very funny and very well placed, in light of the automotive industry struggles.
