...that Bill Walton has been watching 80's WWF footage and studying the ways of the heel commentator. He hardly spoke in the second half of the 2nd quarter and has been bickoring with Marv Albert on and off for the duraton of the game, even more than usual. Most people hate Walton as a commentator and I can honestly see why they do, but I find the three man team to be extremely entertaining with their arguements being the highlight of the game thus far.
And for those of you wondering, yes it does look like Walton, Jones, Ahmad Rashad and most likely even Bob Costas are set to head to ESPN/ABC with the NBA. Marv Albert may or may not be the lead man still but he is definately going to be on most TNT broadcasts of the NBA.
I find Walton to be the most interesting part of the game. The game itself has not been terribly entertaining, but Walton always says something to make you think. It might be that you think - "man, is he stupid" or "what is he smoking?" or something like that, but it's entertaining!
He's Rolie Polie Olie - and in his world of curves and curls, he's the swellest kid around.
I am SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SOOOOO SICK of hearing Walton say the completely stupid and lame phrase "Throw it down!".
Mean Gene: "You know, I don't think it's a question - Goldberg, I don't think it's a question of who's next, I think it's a question of who's left?" Goldberg: "No, see, that's where you're wrong. It ain't who's left, it's - WHO'S NEXT?"

I don't know if it was a joke or not but I didnt really get that exchange at the beginning where Marv and Bill kept asking eachother what the score was.
As for Walton ever saying anything worthwhile, I think he is effective in that everything he says is from his era and he doesnt get that caught up in the flashiness of the new era of the NBA. Again, I fully understand why 95% of people probably abhor him but I find him to be entertaining.
From the desk of Swordsman Yen Hmmmm that would make for an interesting idea. Every local NBA broadcast team should have a heel color commentator that would be biased against the local team. Every good play your team does would be dismissed as "lucky" or "illegal", and when your team loses, he'll rub salt in the wound.

Is Costas really going to go to ABCESPN? Does this mean he might also work some baseball games?

My only thought is that they are loaded with play-by-play guys as it is. I assume Musburger will be the top play by play man, moving over from radio. Certainly Marv would be a better choice, but they may feel that they have enough play-by-play guys and don't want to take on any more contracts. It would seem to be a good fit, though, since Marv also does hockey and boxing, two sports pretty exclusive to ABCESPN. I hope they sign him. NBA without Marv would be missing something.
