TONIGHT: Lots announced ahead of time this week, including of course, John Cena’s return to in-ring action on Raw. He faces off against Kane.....for some reason! Also, in the continuing Intercontinental #1 Contender Tournament, The Miz faces Rey Mysterio and John Morrison takes on Finlay. Melina faces Jillian Hall as well after Melina picked up the win for her six-diva team last week over Jillian’s. Also, the Jaguars are on MNF, so I’ll try not to miss much of Raw switching back and forth!

-WWE Open.

-A video packaged showed John Cena returning at Survivor Series, then the three-way match last week on Raw and the main event segment of last week’s show with Cena and Jericho.

-A close-up on John Cena’s shirt from the lobby of the arena. Chris Jericho was there with a mic, completely surrounded by security in a hilarious touch. He said unlike Cena, he doesn’t want to mingle with the fans. Then he came into the arena and started walking down the stairs to the ring, all the while putting down the fans. Jericho talked about what set himself apart from the fans. Jericho even stopped to admonish a fan for touching him, saying he’ll have him thrown out of the building. Good heel heat here. Jericho said the fans are completely worthless to him. But, he said, there is one John Cena fan worth saving, one that’s very important to him: His son. Jericho talked about the match he lost to Cena that caused Jericho to get fired from WWE. He said his son was two years old then and didn’t realize what his father was. But now, his son has become a WWE fan and, to Jericho’s horror, a John Cena fan. He talked about his son using John Cena’s catchphrases. Jericho said he took action: He banned his son from watching WWE. Jericho said it broke his son’s heart, but he stood by his principles. Jericho said he’d lift his son’s ban at Armageddon, because he wants his son to see his hero get destroyed by his father. Jericho said he wants his son to see his REAL hero come home with the World Title around his waist.

-Raw Open.

-Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler opened the show from Washington, DC and plugged Cena vs. Kane for later tonight. They also plugged the continuation of the I.C. #1 Contender Tournament. They always say it as “IC Title Tourney,” even though isn’t it technically a #1 Contender Tournament?

-Rey Mysterio came out for his match with The Miz. Mike Knox was out in the aisle as Mysterio came out for his match. Not sure how he got there. He ended up attacking Rey, after Rey slipped off the ramp and landed arm-first on it. No match?

[Commercial Break]

-They showed what happened moments ago with Knox and Mysterio. Can’t tell if Mysterio slipped on purpose or accident....I’m gonna go with “on purpose.”

-Backstage, Stephanie McMahon was walking out of the trainer’s room when she ran into Todd Grisham. She said that Rey has torn some ligaments in his elbow. Do diagnosis happen that fast? Steph continued walking and ran into Layla. She said since Rey is hurt, he should be out of the tournament. Steph agreed.

(1) CM Punk & Kofi Kingston vs. Cody Rhodes & Manu
They showed Punk in a Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago. Randy Orton was watching the happenings on a monitor backstage. Some mat wrestling by Punk and Rhodes ‘til a tag and Sunset flip brought in Kofi. Manu tossed Kofi over the top rope, but he skinned the cat back in and avoided a Manu charge (after Manu had to re-push him over and pretty much watching Kofi NOT go totally out), low-bridging him. He dove onto Manu on the outside, but Rhodes took out Kofi at ringside.

[Commercial Break]

Punk and Rhodes were in a heated battle out of break. That is, until Manu and Rhodes double-whipped Punk into the turnbuckle. Surfboard applied by Rhodes, but he sat on his butt and turned it into a chin-lock. He’s learning too much from Orton. Big splash in the corner by Manu. The heels are all over Punk. He came back, using his educated feet on Manu. Sit-down splash missed by Manu. Rhodes came in to prevent the tag, but Punk kneed him in the face and the hot tag commenced. Kofi was all over Rhodes, then hit his Boom Boom Boom move. He got a two-count off that, so Punk came in to take care of Manu. Rhodes tried a roll-up but Kingston held onto the ropes. Trouble in Paradise was hit; Rhodes got his hands up but Kofi nailed him hard enough to actually get his head on that one.

Winners: Kofi & Punk, at 10:21. Solid tag-match, but Team Priceless loses again. I think that’s working into the angle with Orton though.

-Cena takes on Kane later tonight.

[Commercial Break]

-DX again, with their plugging in full force.

-Manu and Rhodes were walking backstage when who should they come upon? Why, Randy Orton of course! Rhodes beat Orton to the punch, saying Randy didn’t win anything last week. Orton said he’s not going to argue anymore because at Survivor Series, when they were on the same team, they won. And he saw potential. Orton said tonight, they should take the first step in realizing their collective potential. He said he’d be in his locker room if they’re interested.

-Chris Jericho was backstage and it looked like he had to think twice about barging into Kane’s...well...area. Jericho said there’s buzz in the locker room about Cena, not him. Jericho said no one thinks Kane can beat Cena, that everyone thinks Kane will get caught in the STFU and tap out from the pain. Kane called Jericho on his ruse, saying he’d take care of Cena tonight for himself, not Jericho. He said he loves the people and they love him right back. Kane then told Jericho never to approach him again.

[Commercial Break]

-On camera, Lawler and Cole talked about last week’s tiff between brother and sister. Then they showed what happened between the two last week.

(2) Jillian Hall vs. Melina
After the two participants had come out, Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix came out. Santino had to beg Beth to show her biceps so he could gnaw on it. They joined the commentary team.

Jillian speared Melina right through the ropes. Melina fought back, but Jillian slammed her down for two. Jillian stretched her a little as Santino and Beth basically spent their time talk about next week’s three-hour Slammy show. Shoulder to the gut in the corner by Jillian. Then she tried her handspring elbow. That didn’t work as Melina came back sitting on Jillian’s chest for two. Melina did some strange move, like legdrop on Jillian’s legs. Melina did the Canadian Destroyer-like move (she calls it “The Last Call”) for the win.

Winner: Melina, at 2:55. Yikes.

Santino talked down to Melina after the match, but Melina said Beth may be the Glamazon but she’s not glamorous and she’s going to take the one thing that means something to Beth. No, not Santino: The Women’s Title. Santino then showed Melina she’s not so special, so he tried to do her ring entrance of getting onto the ring apron in splits, but he only managed to get one up there, then fell on his back trying to get the other one up. He held his groin and vibrated in pain.

-JBL was walking backstage...he’s coming out for something next.

[Commercial Break]

-They showed Santino falling off the apron moments ago, complete with fake laughter from Cole and Lawler.

-Santino ws sitting down with ice on his groin backstage when two hands came from behind to massage his shoulders. Suddenly, the person stood up and it was Goldust. Marella screamed, then ran away.

-Lillian Garcia announced that a Street Fight was next. JBL came out and got on the mic and said he challenged Shawn Michaels to a street fight for tonight. He then asked for HBK’s answer. JBL said Michaels could fight him tonight or go home and take care of his family. JBL said no one saw the stock market coming and that Michaels lost all of the money he was saving up for retirement as well as his kids’ schooling. JBL offered HBK a job working for him. JBL said Michaels could wrestle until he’s 50 or 60 like the has-beens in High-School gyms, sharing war stories and hawking 8 X 10s. JBL said all the money HBK could make plugging his DX stuff is nothing compared to his offer. He reminded HBK that one more bump, one more ladder match, or one more time through a table could end things for Michaels. JBL then made his offer. After a beat, JBL angrily told Michaels that he might as well take the instant gratification and kick JBL in the face since it’s what everybody else wants for him. JBL said if HBK kicks him, the offer is off the table for ever. HBK had that solemn look on his face, then he backed down and left the ring. He walked up the ramp as JBL told him he looked forward to doing business with him.

-Still to come, John Cena returns to action on Raw against Kane.

-Batista was walking backstage...he’s heading to the ring next.

[Commercial Break]

-Somebody has been watching Mad TV.....they spoofed the Geico commercials this week with a regular customer and a celebrity- the celebrity was Hacksaw Duggan. This was done to promote WWEShop.com. Pretty funny, actually. This and the Haas one from last week have been miles funnier than the DX stuff.

(3) Batista vs. Dolph Ziggler
Well, so much for Ziggler’s debut. And push. And career. Good job failing the Wellness test, Dolph. He asked for the mic before the match and introduced himself to the crowd. And that was it. Cole said Ziggler is tops on the all-time wins list for Kent State University. Great, what sport Cole? Ziggler tried to introduce himself to Batista to no avail.

A flurry of right hands did no damage to Batista. Ziggler ran out of the ring and Batista went after him. He went back in the ring, so Batista followed him. Ziggler went back out and screamed angrily, “I’m Dolph Ziggler!” That was humorous. Ziggler got a nice kick square in the jaw of Batista and the big man landed on the apron hard. Ziggler got some more offense in the ring until Big Dave just got tired of it. Batista missed a spear and more punches ensued. He tried the ten-punch count, but Batista walked out of the corner and threw him over his head. Ziggler landed on his head and dropkicked Batista in the knee. Batista caught Ziggler coming off the top rope and slammed him. Batista Bomb ended it.

Winner: Batista, at 3:07. Weird match. Ziggler did get some offense in but I’m still not sure what his character is supposed to be. Is he supposed to have a really short memory? Or is he Waylon Mercy-level psycho?

Randy Orton came out after the match. He congratulated Batista on the victory but then said one day, it will be him vs. Batista. Batista got on the mic after the match out of breath and said that he talked to Stephanie before his match and those two will fight at Armageddon. Orton said he’s been waiting for this match for four years. Isn’t is someone’s job to tell Orton that he has a match at a PPV? Why should he find out hours later, when his opponent tells him?

[Commercial Break]

-Walking backstage, Randy Orton ran into Chris Jericho. Jericho said Cena is going to be vulnerable tonight and said they should let Kane do his thing, then hit the ring and make Cena’s comeback the shortest in history. Jericho said the locker room is divided and they need to pick sides. Orton said Y2J knows whose side he’s on and he’s not going to do Jericho’s bidding. Jericho asked how Orton felt since he’s an afterthought thanks to John Cena (his comeback was overshadowed, as was him pinning Cena at WM).

(4) John Morrison vs. Finlay- Intercontinental #1 Contender Tournament Match
During Morrison’s injury, Layla was shown talking on the phone to Regal. Morrison took Finlay’s legs out when Finlay hit the ropes. Finlay was sitting on the top rope when Morrison kicked him in the head for two. Morrison wrenched the neck of Finlay. Neck-breaker by Morrison, then he stepped on and over Finlay. Coming from Morrison, I’m thinking that wouldn’t hurt too much. Finlay flipped Morrison off the top rope to get the advantage. Couple of hard clotheslines by the veteran Irishman. Morrison then got clotheslined over the top rope. Johnny pushed Hornswoggle, the kicked Finlay into the ring steps. Springboard kick to the back of Finlay’s head for the pin.

Winner: Morrison, at 4:21. Morrison faces Punk in the semis. Good clean win for Morrison.

-Still to come....you guessed it: Cena vs. Kane.

[Commercial Break]

-A trailer aired for “Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia.”

-Stephanie McMahon came out. She presented the nominees for Superstar of the Year, to be presented at the Slammys next week on Raw. Edge, Batista, Jeff Hardy, Chris Jericho, Triple H and John Cena. They’ll all be in action next week- Stephanie started talking about the Triple H match but they showed a different match on the Titan-Tron and Stephanie said “whoops...I guess I pulled an Adamle.” Ouch. Chris Jericho takes on Jeff Hardy next week, as well as John Cena vs. Edge and Triple H vs. Batista.

-Earlier tonight, Rey Mysterio ran into Big Bully Knox on his way to the ring for his tournament match. Lawler said Rey is insistent on being in the match.

-The Miz came out for the match with...well, whomever, next.

[Commercial Break]

(5) The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio- Intercontinental #1 Contender Tournament Match
After a pause, Mysterio came out favoring his arm. Miz targeted the arm of Rey, but Rey hit the 619 quickly, then went upstairs. He missed the splash and partially landed on that arm. Miz put Rey on the top rope, and Miz did a jumping arm-breaker off the top. Miz stomped away at the arm. Mysterio came back with a seated Senton and a flying head-scissors. Miz rolled through a cross-body for two. Couple of roll-ups and counters, then a kick to the head of Miz. Miz went for a neck-breaker, but got rolled up for three.

Winner: Rey, at 3:30.

-Kane came out of his....red room, to come to the ring for the main event match.

[Commercial Break]

(6) Kane vs. John Cena
Kane threw Cena into the turnbuckle, then hit some punches. Cena came back with punches of his own. Kane brought Cena to the outside and hit that uppercut thrust punch for two. Clothesline into the corner by Kane as the announcers kept questioning whether Cena came back too soon. Cena tried to FU Kane, but he ended up dropping the big man. Kane returned on offense. Kane missed the clothesline off the top and Cena locked in the STFU. Jericho ran out and Cena met him in the aisle, attacking him. Back in, Cena ran into a big boot. He grabbed Cena by the throat and Cena tackled Kane. He got back up again though and got Cena up for the chokeslam, but Cena wiggled out and hit the FU for the pin.

Winner: Cena, at 4:28. Well, there was never any doubt as to who would win this.

Jericho tried to run to the back but Cena cut him off and continued the beat-down. Cody Rhodes and Manu came out and ambushed Cena once he got Jericho near the stage. Cena was able to fight them off until Randy Orton came out of nowhere and got on the attack. Orton did his DDT on the concrete, with Cena’s body hanging over the aisle. The three men put the boots to Cena until Jericho had them back off. He took off his sport-coat and rolled up his sleeves, like any proper gentleman before a row. Jericho kicked Cena in the gut and laid in the punches to the head. The fans chanted for Batista. Jericho applied the Walls, with his knee right in the back of Cena’s head. He even yelled “Ask him!” to no one in particular. He kept the hold on as the show faded out.

I like the parody ones too but the DX stuff is legit the funniest stuff that 21st century DX has ever done together. Which is not saying a lot but Shawn Michaels (and Kelly) are gold.

The opening and closing angles of this show were great, the Punk tag match was good stuff, JBL was tremendous, and Steph saying she pulled an Adamle was LOLified and perhaps the most genuine thing she's ever done. I canna believe (ok I can but it's the message board post principle) that they'd give away not only champion vs. champion -- for the second time in three months -- but the first Batista/Hunter match in over three years, which was at one point last year going to be a Wrestlemania match.

Chris Jericho is just 100% pure-cut old-school chickenshit heel and he put on an absolute CLINIC tonight. He basically read off the entire evil tactic book in one night. Evil controlling father! Hates the fans! Private security! Eric Bischoff motivation techniques! Knowledge of prior events! Not-so Sneak Attack! Ambush Plan! Slow removal! LIONTAMER~! ASK HIM~!

David Batista, on the other hand, is a dick. He just wants to shake your hand buddy! He's DOLPH ZIGGLER!

At least now we know why DX has been in ShopZone promos every week...Michaels needs to do them in order to make up for his shoddy financial planning. So if JBL is the new-age Ted Dibiase, does this mean Shawn Michaels is the new-age Nikolai Volkoff?

Next week, Santino gets hit in the groin by a football.
The opening of this show demonstrates the lack of quality of craftmanship this country has displayed in the last decade. All those security guards needed to protect Jericho, when at one time Ralphus could do that all by himself and still consume a ham and cheese sandwich in the process.
Jericho should have asked Kane if he wanted a coffee.

I get your point, but a good argument can be made that he deserves it. That sound you heard was me swallowing my pride.

So we are supposed to think that Shawn is broke? He might be the richest guy on the roster, so this is beyond far fetched. If it was Hacksaw, or Goldust, maybe, but come on.

That DDT on Cena was about the only highlight of the show. And Jericho of course, which is a given.

Ziggler impressed me in the ring tonight, it's too bad he has such a retarded gimmick. He needs to lose the mullet, or go all out with it, like 1995 Stevie Richards.

I'm loving heel Jericho and his use of the Liontamer, and not the Walls of Jericho.

The IC title tourney seems to be going along just fine, which should lead to Morrison/Punk, with Punk winning to move onto Regal and re-ignite that feud. By the way, Regal did an excellent job on commentary last week, putting Punk over huge the entire time he was on.

I really don't want to see a Mike Knox/Rey Mysterio feud. Let's hope this was a one-off incident to showcase Knox as an asshole and move on. You know they're not taking Knox seriously when Michael Cole repeatedly calls him a "bully."

Dolph Ziggler was quite interesting in the ring today, but apart from his introduction thing, someone must remind me why I'm supposed to give a shit about him.

I'm actually very impressed with this how this story is starting overall. I can totally believe that Michaels spent his 90s fortune on drugs and hookers and then lost his 00s fortune on bad investments/the overall economy. I also can believe that JBL is immune from losing his money because of his wife's powerful economic position.

It's a smart (read: smart, not smart) storyline overall, and Shawn Michaels is the perfect character to build it around.

It would be better if Michaels wasn't a current main eventer. As a fan I say "okay, that sucks. Guess he'll have to cut back the next few years while he makes a ton of money every week here on Raw. No new mirror pants for a while." Unless they want to push that not only has he lost everything but he is in Ric Flair like debt, so he isn't even seeing any of his paychecks. And then you risk getting into really bad melodrama stuff.

This angle would have been totally perfect for the yearly Mick Foley comeback before he went to TNA. But I think it is going to be hard to get the fans to really buy into this. I mean sure, they'll root for Michaels because they'll always root for him. But this angle feels like a bit of a non-starter.

If this means we see Shawn Michaels show up next week with wrestling tights that have "Property of JBL" written on them, I whole-heartedly throw my support behind this storyline.

I see your point on them giving away too many big time matches, but who really expects these matches to go very long and have decisive winners?

I think some of you are overthinking the HBK/JBL angle. It's an angle on a wrestling show, it doesn't have to completely realistic. Worrying over the fact that HBK is a main-eventer and should have money or whatever is just thinking about it too much. I did love the segment, especially JBL. That was his best mic work in a while.

I, too, do not care for the idea of a Mike Knox/Rey feud. It wouldn't be a bad idea if Rey hadn't been feuding with big guys the last few months. Put Rey in feuds with smaller guys who can work please! I DO like Knox somewhat.

Is Morisson's clean win over Finlay the harbinger of a big push in the near future? Here's hoping they pull the trigger on a Michaels/Morisson feud soon.

Decent wrestling (re)debut for Dolph, just lose the name. I agree with Shane Spear that Batista is a dick. And is it just me or is he getting lazy(er) in the ring lately?

Does every arena just happen to have a room bathed in red light for Kane?

Jericho is without a doubt the best heel on any of the shows. I wonder what he does after the Cena feud though? Really can't see him winning it back at this point. I'd like him to stay in the title picture, but he could also be perfect for elevating a young guy on the rise.

It's good to see they are finally pulling the trigger on the 2nd/3rd-gen faction. Was anyone else expecting Orton to hit an RKO on Jericho at the end? Hopefully, they won't just always align with heels, and beat down first-gen wrestler indiscriminately, regardless of face/heel alignment.

Someone please, PLEASE tell Cole to stop laughing so hard at the comedy stuff. It's alright for the announcer to laugh, but he sounds so fake because he tries too hard.

Yes, he is.

It's been discussed here before, but why is this guy a face?

He acts like everything he does is one big stupid joke.
A wrestler cuts a serious, intense promo and he just smirks and smiles. I can't buy that he's an "Animal" if he can't.

I've always been indifferent to Batista, but now I hate him and want to see get beaten...badly.

I can only speak for myself, but I think the best wrestling angles are based on reality. At the very least, they have to be believable. Otherwise, why are we watching, if we can't be immersed in the story? And thinking Shawn is broke, to me, is not believable. No matter how well done the segment is, and it was, that's not quite enough for me. Now if it was Ric Flair, where his financial problems were well publicized prior, that I can believe. But this seems out of nowhere just to give Shawn something to do. It's like filler, and even with two of the better mic guys involved, it's hard to get past that. Plus, Shawn probably makes in excess of a million dollars a year, I would assume he could "bounce back" from his financial woes very quickly.

Morrison practically wrestled that match as the face. If Hornswoggle was, say, Layla, Finlay would have been in the heel position.

Also, how long has Finlay entered to Hornswoggle's theme?

It's been quite awhile and it drives me nuts. I can live with him coming out with a midget, he's been doing it forever now and Hornswaggle has talent, but when he comes out with the stupid props and the music I can't help but think of him as one step away from a modern day Doink.

How much longer until Santino comes out in the full Norman Smiley body armor?

Why is Stephanie McMahon's voice so raspy these days?

I always enjoy the start of JBL feuds until JBL gets in the ring to further these feuds. I'm hoping HBK can draw out the JBL that faced Eddie Guerrero in some of those brutal bloodbaths.

I'm all for a John Morrison in 2009 mega push.

The thing that already annoys me about the HBK/JBL thing is that Shawn will look sad and/or stonefaced for the next few weeks, and then suddenly cannot take it anymore and goes nuts and destroys JBL.

I love Shawn in the ring, and I thought his DX stuff over the past weeks (both the commercials and the once-again reunion thing) were hilarious but "stonefaced Shawn" sucks.

Batista is a face in the vibe where he doesn't care or bother what others say or think. He is just so damn cool that he will look right through your bs and gets what he wants.
At least that is what they try to get across I think.

It really isn't that different from when he broke out of Evolution and feuded with HHH.
Only right now he isn't facing guys who can play the strong heel like Hunter did in that feud.

Did any of this - ANY of this make ANY sense? I mean, I thought I was paying attention to this show, but two hours of JBL AND Miz on commentary may have had a numbing effect on my brains...
