TONIGHT: Your new champion is John Cena, who makes his long-awaited Raw return tonight. Also tonight, a re-match from last week as Shawn Michaels and Rey Mysterio take on John Morrison and The Miz. The opening round of a tournament to crown a number one contender for the I.C. Title will go down tonight. Brackets are even posted at WWE.com!

-WWE Open.

-In the back, a fancy car pulled up with Shane McMahon getting out. Looks like hes running late. In the building, he ran into Cryme Tyme and Kelly Kelly, as they exchanged hugs and hand-shakes. He even ran into Dolph Ziggler but quickly got by him. He then made his entrance into the arena, complete with theme music and funky dance. Shane announced John Cena as the new champion. He said two individuals have championship re-match clauses: Chris Jericho and Batista. Tonight, Batista and Jericho will compete to see who will face John Cena at Armageddon. Im guessing something happens where they both get to face Cena! Shane said Cena was in the building.....but Stephanie then came out. She said Randy Orton has a valid argument as to why he should face Cena for the title. She announced a triple-threat match tonight to see who will face Cena. Steph said she wouldve told Shane about it earlier, but she knows how he loves surprises. They discussed things without the mics as the crowd shouted Cena, Cena! Stephanie then announced a tag team match right now, Miz and Morrison against...then Shane stepped in front of her and stepped over her words to announce Rey Mysterio and Shawn Michaels. Steph got cranky and told Shane it was her show. Steph said she wont let Shane stab her in the back again and wont let him ruin this show, HER show. Shane said he just wanted to have a little fun and to make Raw a better show. She told Shane to hop back in his Ferarri and to go back to New York City. She told him to run the corporation and that SHE will run the show. Shane asked if she wants to run the show or sleep with another superstar and get a new husband. She slapped him. Shane calmly said, You wanna run Raw? Then Im gonna watch you run it right into the ground. Seems like they sped this feud up quite quickly to get to this point already.

-Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler spoke on camera and plugged John Cenas appearance.

(1) John Morrison & The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio & Shawn Michaels
Michaels eye was bruised from last night. Mysterio flipped Morrison around. Then we got a shot of the inside of JBLs limo. JBL told the driver to go, but he said there was a match going on. JBL said he didnt pay him to think but to drive, and take him to the ring. Michaels hit his flying forearm and kip-up. Morrison came back though to take HBK down as well as Rey. Morrison avoided Sweet Chin Music, but a distraction by Miz allowed Morrison to nail HBK in the eye. JBLs music then hit and his limo came out. He got out of the car and observed the match from the front of his car. Miz suplexed Michaels and got a two-count as the show went to break.

[Commercial Break]

Rey was still on the outside, not on the apron, looking injured during the match. Miz was working over HBK in the ring. Back suplex by HBK and Miz made the tag, but HBK couldnt- he went to his corner but Rey was still too injured. Soon after, he was able to make it to the apron. Michaels blocked a few Morrison suplex attempts off the top rope, and he threw Morrison down. Michaels was able to make the tag, crawling over using the ropes without any part of his body touching the mat. That was unique. Rey used his swashbuckling style to...do whatever a swashbuckling style does, to Miz. Morrison threw Michaels into the steel ringpost on the outside while Rey did a sunset flip off the top that doubled as a powerbomb on Miz, and got the pin.

Winners: Rey & HBK, at 8:34. Fine match with some different action than weve seen between these four.

Morrison attacked HBK post-match, and JBL also walked in. He told Morrison to leave HBK alone, and JBL kicked Morrison straight in the face. Dont tell me this is a face turn for JBL. Hopefully its tough love like Orton and Team Priceless.

-Later in a #1 Contenders Match, Batista takes on Randy Orton and Chris Jericho. Plus, John Cena returns. Doesnt Jericho have a re-match clause?

[Commercial Break]

-JBL was walking backstage and was approached by JBL about what just happened. Apparently, JBL made an offer to HBK today and hes mulling it over....JBL said he was just trying to convince Michaels to accept the deal. JBL was purposely being very vague.

-Lillian introduced Mr. Kennedy. He plugged his new straight-to-DVD movie. Kennedy said last night, he took a camera crew and asked fans at the Survivor Series which WWE superstar reminds the fans of President-elect Barack Obama. It wouldve been funny had everyone mentioned all the black wrestlers in WWE. They even got a kid who said Vince McMahon. The kid said because theyre both stubborn. Oh, and they both have big ears. Kennedy said he was surprised he wasnt mentioned. He even did the mic thing. Interetsing segment, but his return will be forgotten once John Cena comes back later.

-Grisham was backstage with Batista. He first congratulated John Cena and said he knows the feeling Cena was going through last night. He said hes going to get back to the top of the mountain by winning tonight, then beating Cena at Armageddon.

[Commercial Break]

-Lillian gave a lengthy explanation about the I.C title tournament, then brought out the first-ever Intercontinental Title holder, Pat Patterson, who joined the commentary team. They plugged tomorrows release of the History of the IC Title DVD by showing highlights of Patterson. Cole even brought up Patterson winning the title in a tourney in Rio de Janeiro.

(2) Kofi Kingston vs. Kane- 1st Round of the Intercontinental Title #1 Contender Tournament Match
Kane really took it to Kofi off the bat. Kane caught Kofi coming off the ropes with a big boot as Patterson reminisced about big stars who used to be Intercontinental Champion. Kingston came off the top rope with a cross-body for two. Kofi missed a dive, then was almost chokeslammed. Kofi recovered and kicked Kane out of the ring. Kofi went off the top but slipped and fell a bit short of Kane, but Kane was able to catch him (barely) and sell it. Kane bent Kofis back around the ringpost. As he did that, the ref called for the bell. Apparently, he was DQd for not breaking the move.

Winner: Kingston by DQ, at 2:41. Kind of sloppy for as short as it was.

Kane got the ring steps from ringside and hit Kofi with them after the match. Stephanie McMahon came out and said Kane can take his aggression out on Kingston, or he can wait til next week and take it out on John Cena. Kane seemed to like option number two.

-#1 Contenders Match for the World Title is next.

[Commercial Break]

(3) Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton vs. Batista- #1 Contender Match for the World Title
Batista beat up Jericho and then Orton. Orton took Batista to task on the outside, then dropkicked Batista off the apron and to the ground. That led to Jericho vs. Orton in the ring. Jericho missed a Lionsault and Orton set up for the RKO....and they went to commercial. Are you kidding me?

[Commercial Break]

Jericho rolled up Batista for a pin, but couldnt get it. I guess Orton didnt hit the RKO during the break then? Orton and Batista paired off at this point. After a near-fall by Orton, Jericho snuck back in and attacked Batista. He and Orton stomped away at The Animal. Y2J whipped Batista into Orton, who clotheslined him. Then he took out Jericho. Well, that was bound to happen. Enziguiri by Jericho, but Batista broke the pin. Batista became a house-of-fire and rammed Orton and Jericho into each other. Big side slam by Batista for two. Powerslam on Orton and ANOTHER pin broken up. Scoop slam by Orton for two, as Jericho kicked out. Spinebuster and a beauty by Batista on Randy. Batista held on during the Codebreaker and Jericho was able to worm his way out of a Batista Bomb. He kicked at Batistas knee, then locked in the Boston Crab. Is Orton going to try an RKO on Jericho during a Boston Crab, like the one he missed on Jericho years ago? No, he just hit him in the back of his head. Back-breaker by Orton, who then was setting up for a kick to the head, but Batista speared him. He went for the pin, but Jericho dropkicked Batista in the head and stole the pinfall.

Winner: Jericho, at 11:24. Not a bad match, but the triple-threat concept of someone having to rest outside to make a one-on-one match is getting tired. As was all the pin break-ups. Maybe thats nit-picky.

-The champ returns tonight.

[Commercial Break]

-Santino Marella was in the ring dressed for a match, and he was joined by Beth Phoenix. He said as far as hes considered, hes the greatest I.C. Champ of all-time. He was offended that he wasnt in the History of the I.C Title DVD. He was also unhappy about not being entered in the I.C Title tournament. He said hes got backup tonight in his match that he was challenged to, his two Roman Soldiers, Pasquale and Fracesco (those were his biceps). Goldust answered the challenge.

(4) Santino Marella vs. Goldust
Goldust pushed Santino from behind and Santino was unimpressed. He breathe deeply at Marella, then blew a kiss to Beth. That offended Santino. He walked into a right hand, then Goldust caught him with the butt bump. Into a chin-lock, but Santino got to the ropes. Marella hammered away until referee John Cone broke them up in the corner. Goldust hit his low punch, then an inverted atomic drop. The Final Cut spinning suplex finished it.

Winner: Goldust, at 1:58. Not embarrassing, and it appears Goldust has lost a bit of weight. Crowd wasnt into it though. Beth helped Santino out of the ring and to his feet after the match.

[Commercial Break]

-A pretty funny WWE Mobile commercial with Charlie Haas aired, a take-off on the commercials that go, Hi, (names) phone here....he didnt answer because hes.... Haas was dressed as Bret Hart, with his beating at the hands of Kozlov playing behind him. Apparently, Haas missed a message that said Kozlov hated Bret Hart as a child.

(5) CM Punk vs. Snitsky- 1st Round of the Intercontinental Title #1 Contender Tournament Match
William Regal and Layla came to the commentary table after Punks entrance. Apparently, the tournament was Regals suggestion. Big side slam from Snitsky. He already has too much offense in. Snitsky hit a few elbows to the lower back of Punk. Punk came back with some sharp kicks. Snitsky caught Punk coming off the top and applied a bear-hug. Punk headbutted out. A shoulder-block laid out Punk again. Big legdrop to the back of Punks next. What is going on here? Another bear-hug. Regal really put over the title on commentary. Bodyslam by Snitsky. Gene finally missed an elbowdrop, then hit a jaw-breaker. Charge was missed by Snitsky and Punk hit a flying clothesline for two. Running knee in the corner, but Snitsky got out of the bulldog and hit a big boot. Bear-hug number THREE. Punk got out again and short clothesline put Punk down. Regal said Snitsky had dreadful dental hygiene. Pump-handle slam was countered into a GTS for three.

Winner: Punk, at 5:14. Three minutes longer than it shouldve been. Whats with all the offense for Snitsky?

-Todd Grisham was backstage with Rey Mysterio. Grisham talked about his I.C Tournament match next week against Miz. Rey said he has watched the DVD and he knows about the legends that have held the belt. Mike Knox walked in and just stared down Rey. Then he walked away, just like last week. He must have a problem with short people. I like the emphasis on the I.C. Title, but you know its because of the DVD coming out.

[Commercial Break]

-Backstage, Shawn Michaels and Triple H cut a DX promo, advertising their gear for the holiday season on shopzone.com. Total channel-changing stuff here. Kelly Kelly was in there too, modeling some gear. Just like Vince, Triple H has to be irresistible to the ladies.

-Beth Phoenix, Katie Lea and Jillian Hall came out for a six-diva tag match. Beth had a mic before the match and talked about the Raw side winning the elimination match last night and that she was the sole survivor. Jillian Hall interrupted and talked about how glad she was the Slammy Awards would return in two weeks. Why wasnt Katie Lea in the match last night? Jillian tried to sing a little in order to get some late consideration for Performance of the Year. Katie Lea was doing a little dancing while Hall was singing. They thankfully cut to break.

[Commercial Break]

-Next week, John Cena faces Kane.

(6) Beth Phoenix & Katie Lea & Jillian Hall vs. Mickie James & Candice Michelle & Melina
I guess Candice isnt that hurt....I thought she was after she pulled up lame last night. They gave away the Melina surprise when her name came up on the Titan-Tron during Candices entrance....and the camera was focused on it for a few seconds.

Candice bridged out of a pin, but Jillian stayed in control for the most part. Jillian backed Candice into the heel corner, where they worked Candice over. Jillian did her handspring elbow then tagged in Beth. Back-breaker, and another by Beth. Candice kicked herself away from Beth, but she tagged Katie Lea. Candice tagged Melina to literally no reaction. Nice flip move by Melina, a version of the Code Red, but Melina herself let Katie out of the pin (but not before Marty Elias got to a two-count....after Melina rolled away at one). Things started to break down, so Melina hit her finisher for the win.

Winners: Mickie, Candice and Melina, at 3:25. Lack of crowd reaction hurt.

-Chris Jericho was walking backstage, and he ran into Stephanie McMahon. He said he was going to provide Cena a personal welcoming committee. He went from smiling when talking to Steph to a complete bad-ass look two seconds later when he walked away.

[Commercial Break]

-They showed what happened earlier in the World Title #1 Contenders Match.

-Chris Jericho was in the ring. He said things wont change with Cena as a champion, and reminded everyone that they thought things would be different when Batista won the title, but he won it back soon after and nothing changed. Jericho promised that the same thing would happen at Armageddon. John Cena interrupted on the Titan-Tron. He was surrounded by a bunch of kids. Somewhere in the arena, I think. Cena said Jericho has lost his grasp on reality. Cena said Y2J thinks hes above everyone else. The kids started a Cena, Cena chant. Cena said the fans dont like Jericho coming out every week to smugly tell fans theyre not good enough. Cena said he didnt show up alone tonight and said he brought thousands of fans. Cena then headed to the ring through the crowd.

Once in the ring, Cena told Jericho that all the people in the crowd, for all their differences, they have one thing in common: They care about WWE. Im so sick of these sappy, rah-rah promos from Cena. Cena said they pay their hard earned money to stand up and make some noise. He said the fans only ask of the wrestlers that every time they step in the ring, to share that passion. Cena said hes not out to start his own era or dynasty and said his goal isnt title wins, but rather, to give everything he has win, lose or draw, to the fans. Jericho then responded that he didnt give a damn if the fans agree with Cena. Jericho ran down the list of superstars he has beaten and Cena stopped him. Cena said the biggest difference between him and Jericho is that he Y2J talks business.....Cena took off his shirt, ready to fight.....and he means business. Jericho then left the ring. But if Jericho didnt mean business, he wouldnt have beat all the guys on the list, would he? Cena said he wanted to clear the air between the two: He said their match last night was one hell of a match, and no one can doubt Jerichos ability inside the ring. But the difference is Jericho comes out every week saying he wants to save this place and that the fans arent good enough. Cena said he loves this place. He said Jericho has been lying to himself the whole time and that hes as much of a WWE fan as anyone else, and the belt he has proves we are good enough. He ended with his The Champ is Here schtick.

Jericho stormed back into the ring. Jericho said the champ is here (pointing to himself). He said Cena doesnt intimidate or impress him. Jericho told Cena to look at him while he was talking to him. Chris said hed take the title from Cena at Armageddon, and called Cena a liar and hypocrite, like the sicko fans that Cena panders to every night. Y2J called Cena a flash in the pan and there wasnt anything Cena could do about it. He called Cena a worm and a coward. Clothesline to Jericho followed by a beating from pillar to post. Then he threw Jericho out of the ring. But he wanted more. He threw Jericho over the announce table and poured someones soda (or beer) on Jericho. Then he whipped the former champ into the steel steps. Cena hit Jericho with the top of the steps and sent Jericho almost over the barricade. Cena dragged Jerichos lifeless body to the ring. Clothesline from Cena. Full-nelson by Cena. Then he finally applied the STFU. Where are the refs and agents? Cena finally raised the belt in triumph to end the show. Whoops, Kane was watching this backstage, as he faces Cena next week. But the camera ended on Cena.

Did you see the video department screw up? They played the returning Melina's video when Candace was coming out, thereby ruining a possible surprise return. Somebody's gonna get fired for that shit. I was totally digging Melia channeling Milano Collection AT with the Matrix. Milano and Melina...has a certain ring to it, doesn't it?

What was up with Snitsky/Punk getting 5 minutes?

I don't think anyone noticed that, especially with King and Cole talking about it for the next minute.

I may be in the minority, but I wish Kennedy would stay away. He brings nothing to the table, can't wrestle for longer than six months without getting hurt, and has stale schtick. Plus, isn't he supposed to be back on Smackdown?

(On a side note, I'd just like to say that geemoney does a great job with the shows. I like recappers who recap, not the ones who think it's amateur hour at the improv.)

I was on the fence about going to Raw in Philly in two weeks. But now, knowing that it will be the Slammy awards, I'm staying far away from the state of Pennsylvania on December 8'th.

As for this Raw, Melina looked pretty good, despite the crowd apathy and production miscue. I thought it was actually a clever somewhat save by Lawler on commentary.

I'm intrigued by the JBL/HBK stuff.

I'm not intrigued by even-steven booking, as evidenced by the Jericho/Orton/Batista match. Jericho gets his win back, Batista hits a big move on Orton and Orton gets pinned. Orton looked like such a star on Sunday, and on Raw he looked like just another guy. Sad really.

We are back to ass-kisser John Cena. Whoo. His beatdown of Jericho was pretty cool though.

You're right... they didn't take ONE shot of Stephanie that wasn't "from the waist up only." What's up with *that?* Does she have body issues all of a suddden?

I just love the fact that she thinks that nobody will notice this little trick making everyone notice not only what going on from the waist down ,but also that it bothers the hell out of her.

That was a manly beatdown by Morrison on Michaels.

I am hoping this new alliance of HBK and Rey leads to a WrestleMania match.

Cena looked like a total dick with that beatdown on Jericho. Cue the heel turn speculation!

The Lovely Mrs. Tracker is now concerned about JBL's weight loss. We also noted Kennedy's smaller size. Manu was TOTALLY rocking the Gene Simmons look, and that's a gimmick they could continue. I thought Steph looked great last night, and her eyes appeared super-green.

It seems like Miz is getting buried while Morrison is emerging as the breakout star.

I hope Goldust has more luck than D-Lo.

Thought the correct answer in the look-a-like contest was Slick.
Santino is now ranked behind Snitsky in the I-C Title Contender Rankings?
I actually like this tournament idea for being a top contender, as it provides build-up and even could give credibility to someone they'd like to see gradually move upwards, as they go from losing the 1st round in a tourney, to advancing a round in a later tourney etc.
Now, the important question that came to my mind: Had Vince signed Nick Bockwinkle in 1984, would he have teamed him up with Rocky Johnson in order to form the team Rocky and Bockwinkle?

I realy like the idea of tournaments to decide things. This is also a good way to make the IC belt mean something, and be something worth fighting for.

Looking at the way the brackets are set up I can see Punk and Kingston facing eachother over the number 1 contendership.

Definitely some kudos to both Regal and Cena. Both of them took the time to build up their opponent (or in Regal's case, potential opponent in Punk) in their promos. Regal in particular did a great job building up both Punk and the IC Title.

Well, hasn't that always been a given that Morrison would be the breakout star? Of course, Miz has benefitted from the pairing with Morrison and is a solid midcard/IC type wrestler. I'm hoping the JBL/Michaels feud ends quickly and we get Morrison/Michaels, and for a decent amount of time. Anyone remember when the last time Miz/Morrison fueded with anyone longer than a few weeks at a time? And they could also have a tag titles feud with Punk/Kofi while the Michaels/Morisson fued goes on.

I hope Dustin retires. Couldn't he just work as an agent/trainer?

I'm happy to see Jericho get his rematch, but what does Big Dave do without being in the title match(I'd like to see him go away myself)? Will they have Batista/Orton already at Armageddon? I'd rather that be held off maybe until even Mania.

I like Kennedy somewhat, but WTF was that segment? And why couldn't they do that on SD?

I'm not really sure I'm excited about another round of "As the McMahons Turn".

I *LOVE* what they are doing with the IC title tournament. I just hope its not just because of the DVD. They needed to do something to rebuild the belt after it lost all credibility on Santino. Regal was the perfect person to put it on, as ever since he won it he has put it over as important and worth fighting over.

Nice job ruining the Melina suprise production crew. I had no idea what the swank move Melina used was, but I gave my best Vince McMahon "WHATAMANEUVER!" when she did it.

Kane/Cena-I have a feeling we'll see SuperCena here for the win, and a Jericho post match beatdown. What is Kane going to be doing after this?

I'm not sure if he's used it before, but line of the night goes to Lawler-"When Snitsky shows his teeth traffic slows down". And wrestling fans go to sleep when Snitsky wrestles.

Between the big plugs for the IC DVD, the shopzone segment, and the WWE Mobile/Haas bit, it sure felt like there was an extra bit of emphasis of pushing people towards the non-PPV/ticket revenue streams. Maybe it was just a pre-Black Friday reminder.

Nice that they actually posted the tournament brackets. Morrison vs CM Punk is too obvious not to happen. Miz beating Rey Jr. sets up the face/heel match up, but that would also be a crime against humanity and they're not sticklers about avoiding face/face in tournaments. From there, I dunno - Rey vs Morrison plays off the recent tag matches, Punk vs Kofi has tag team champions fighting each other, either of those seems possible.

Figure on the other two quarters next week, and I wonder if they'll just do semifinals and finals the week after. They do have three hours to fill.

I am ALL for the IC title meaning something again, but it might mean more if the current champ was not treated like such a chump at Survivor Series the night before.

My point should have been better said: They seem to be at least teasing the Morrison push now, which I suppose means the team's days are numbered.
