I knew better than to trust Philly against the Bengals. It was the same feeling I had when the Redskins faced the Rams. (Then again, I get that feeling about Philly every week...) That said, there was one point this afternoon when Altanta, Cincy, and Oakland were all leading, and I thought I had a shot. Oh well.
I find it phenomenally impressive that the winner wins on the week that he picks the team that is in his team name.
Have any of these gone on this long? Twelve weeks feels like a long time.
Congrats, N Twn. Good job by all. This was fun, but I'll probably be better off without the mild level of stress.
You believe me, don't you? Please believe what I just said...
I guess we now know the answer regarding what happens when a game ends in a tie. And let us not forget the emotional rollercoaster the gamblers went through on the end of the Steelers/Chargers game with the spread being determined by a review of a play that was meaningless to the outcome of the game and after the ref misunderstood the call initially even after looking at the replay.
Originally posted by ESPN No one was more surprised than McNabb that it ended so soon -- 3 hours, 46 minutes after the opening kickoff. The 10th-year quarterback thought it would keep going until someone scored, just like a playoff game.
Wrong.
"I didn't know that," said McNabb, who played a leading role in keeping it tied. "I've never been part of a tie. I never even knew it was in the rule book. I was looking forward to getting the opportunity to get out there and try to drive to win the game. But unfortunately with the rules, we settled with a tie."
Apparently, he wasn't the only one. How do players not know this???
Yeah I saw that. I don't know how it's possible to not know that. For one thing, there's been a tie since McNabb was in the league. For another, did he never stop to ask himself, "I wonder what happens when that overtime clock reaches all zeros?"
I mean, people call every year for the NFL to change its overtime format, and while the possibility of a tie is not the most common argument, it does come up in the discussion.

WTF!?!?! As I started quoting this (to write something snarky) McNabb was on ESPN saying "I'd hate to see what happens in the Super Bowl or the playoffs," and now I'm just speechless. This is NOT hard to grasp. I am disgusted with the Philadelphia Eagles today. I want my Sunday afternoon back.

From the ESPN.com article
"I've never been in a tie, so I don't know how this works in the standings," coach Andy Reid said. "I know it's not good enough. We need wins, and this is not a win."
Apparently the entire franchise doesn't know that you can get a tie, or how it's applied to the record (half a win) even though their last one was in 1997 vs the Ravens (10-10).
Edit:
I forgot this. At the coin toss for OT, doesn't the ref announce the overtime rules? Like how replay works, how the clock runs, and how it's one sudden death 15 minute period?

A riveting game between Michael Vick and Tommy Maddox, no less! I can't believe Tommy Maddox was actually starting games. And you'd think that the state of QB's would be better in 2008, but here you have teams like the Vikings trotting out perennial 2nd string losers on a weekly basis.
On a similar (and more positive) note, I continue to be amazed at the way Kerry Collins and Kurt Warner have resurrected their careers this year. If we get THAT Super Bowl matchup, my head just might explode.

I passed disgusted with the two dumb-ass sweeps right on 3rd and 4th against the Giants last Sunday. This......this preformance I need a new word for.
And apparently McNabb wasn't the only one. Buckhalter, Gaither, D-Jax - all clueless.n DeSean I'll cut come slack with him being a rookie (and having confirmed himself as certifiably stupid already this season with the ball dropping thing) but the mind boggles that the rest didn't know.
I dare say it's no coincidence that the organisation responsible for the worst two-minute drills in football also has no clue how OT works.
This team is slowly sapping my soul and they don't even look sorry about it.

UF plummets 7 spots, but other than that, there wasn't a whole lot of movement in the Coaches' Poll. That was a beautiful afternoon of football yesterday. I still can't believe Notre Dame is undefeated, yet hasn't scored an offensive touchdown yet.
