I saw some mentions in the "how long" thread, so I was curious what everyone is using.

We had the "complete the arrow" optical scan ballots. You?

We did, too, except we have this "ranked choice" voting on some positions, where we rank the top-three candidates 1-2-3. It is the stupidest thing ever and we had an entirely separate ballot for those.

Read it and weep, fella

Mine was similar to the one above (in the banner), but all of the candidates were on the same side of the page, and you poke this marker-thing through the hole to fill in the circles.

Inkavote

I'm always slightly paranoid that I didn't line it up right.

IRV is the GREATEST thing ever. EVERYTHING should be decided by instant runoff voting. You're LUCKY.

Like I said in the earlier post, we use punch-levers. Pull the big red lever to close the curtains, choose the canidates by pressing down a small switch to reval a x next to thier name, and then pull the big lever back to finish the vote. They said in Newsday (the local paper) the county was going to replace these machines this year with touch screens, but I guess it didn't work out during the trial period they had for it in spring during the school budget votes.

"Fill in the oval" optical scan as well. I hated these on standardized tests, I hate them now. Better than electronic, I guess.

Scantron "fill in the oval." Quick, easy and if you screw it up, it's pretty much your own fault so your vote shouldn't have counted anyway!

I voted early and they were using a touch screen ballot. The computer analyst in me kept playing with the UI trying to break it. I'm happy to say, no matter how many times I changed my choice or paged backwards and forwards, everything worked fine. At least I think I voted for who I was trying to vote for.

I get the feeling Brooklyn is going to use those punch lever machines until they collapse and maybe a little longer.

And yes, instant runoff is brilliant. Don't be afraid.

Electronic. The party candidates are arranged in columns. There's a button to vote straight party, or you can press individual buttons across party lines. A light lights up next to your choices, and you press a button marked "CAST VOTE" to finalize your vote.

I think that having a button for voting straight party is a bad idea. I know that some people do it, but seriously make them punch each one individually so they can at least pretend to think about it.
