This one isn't one of those ambiguous "Government catches a guy going to an Obama rally and he happens to have a gun" stories. A REAL assassination plot was stopped before it could be put into place and Skinheads are front and center.
The US government tonight revealed it had foiled a plot to assassinate Barack Obama and 102 black people.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms said the plan was to kill the Democratic presidential candidate and shoot or decapitate 102 black people in a Tennessee murder spree.
In court records revealed today, agents said they disrupted plans to rob a gun store and target an unnamed but predominantly African-American high school by two neo-Nazi skinheads.
With all the steps forward our civilization has taken, it's REALLY easy to forget that there are still a lot of honest-to-goodness racist lunatics out there and they probably feel like their biggest nightmare is about to happen.
Amazing work by the ATF and may they keep up the good work. The Secret Service won't be getting any sleep over the next eight days.

There are some but we have made amazing progress since I was young. Nutjobs will always exist. That is why education and interaction are key. Everyone, is some way, is predjudiced but over the next 50 years, I pray outright bigots will essentially disappear both racially and religiously.

Plus the next (potentially) eight years if you remember the old Eddie Murphy joke from "Delerious" (I believe)
"He won't stand still!"
Glad this was thwarted and hope nobody else feels the need to try to step up and take on their cause. Being from the (kinda) South and travelling to the Deep South for work quite a bit I still hear the occasional remark that makes me turn my head and think "Did I just hear what I thought I heard a supposedly smart person say?"
“You are going to get a certain amount of snarkiness on the Internet no matter what, and my rule is that you don't post anything that you wouldn't say to someone's face.” Marc Andreyko (Writer of DC Comic’s “Manhunter”)
The decapitating people while wearing white tuxedos makes me think these were just a pair of kooks rather than assassins. Still have to take any threat on a candidate seriously, but reading some of the planned details makes you doubt how realistic their plan was. It's the simple plan that would concern me, that the bizarre.
I'm not dismissing ANYTHING about fanatical bigots, mass murder, assassination, or hate crimes; these things are dead serious and no laughing matter. However, based on the whole 'plan' that was averted I get this rotten feeling that it's entirely possible a couple of internet trolls just got arrested.

Racism is never that far away. They replayed an "Antiques Roadshow" from Alabama a couple of days ago, a gentleman had a CSA (Confederate States) belt buckle. He said he was in Selma in 1963 walking across a cornfield when he found the buckle, then proudly wore it for twenty years until he realized it was possible worth something.
It wasn't until 1962 that the Washington Redskins were forced to put a black player on their team, and the beloved Boston Red Sox were the last original MLB team to integrate, in 1959, less than fifty years ago.

And now, less than 50 years later, we may well elect a black president. We have a long way to go but we have come a long way.
It's sad that there are still people like these two in 21st century America, but you know bigotry breeds bigotry. You have in Obama a candidate who was a member of a black nationalist church in Chicago led by one of the most hateful, spiteful, human beings in this country. Racism is wrong on either end of the spectrum, I thought. Whereas a magic wand a nice smile miraculously disavows him of fifteen years of association in the sheepish eyes of Mr and Ms America, certain segments of the population, both of logical and illogical dispositions, will question his allegiance and his agenda. And rightly so! The almost laughable division in American politics currently will look like a blister next to a canyon once Obama takes office.

And while there is the very real possibility that an African-American will be president after the next election, we still need to be reminded that there are still completely idiotic views around like those quoted above.

Yes, sorry, I am completely out of line. I'll be a good liberal and totally ignore the qualifications of the next leader of the free world and worry about more pertinent issues which have greater impact upon my life, such as belt buckles.

A 'he started it' argument? Really? Don't get me wrong, it's def. gonna suck when Obama enslaves the white race.

Wow. Either I am *way* off on this whole thread, or it is just super full of people misinterpreting each other. Surely Nag was saying bigotry is "passed down," explaining its continued existence.

I don't know, Moe. I'd hope not to find out. The damn fool is so off his rocker that he spouted those words today, as he was losing his boxing license. I only caught the end of it on ESPN, but it may even have been at the hearing.
