I know that they had a few pick 6's in the mix, but LSU having half a hundred hung on them a second time, in Baton Rouge no less?
Have to give Okie State credit: Played Texas tough, and moved the ball from inside the 1 into Hail Mary range in 30 seconds.
I'm guessing Georgia Tech won't be considered a great team this week.
And Vandy might have been a fraud team after losing to Duke. The question now is do they go from 5-0 to not even getting magic #6 to be bowl eligible.
If Michigan State hadn't come back to beat this Michigan team, they were never going to beat Michigan.
South Florida and Pitt going down means that potentially no Big East teams will be in the Top 25 this week, unless beating Auburn lifts up West Virginia.
And Florida State in the 20 region might be the ACC's last saving grace.
I know Oklahoma won big, but there defense provides doubt.
Even though they massacred Kansas, I'm still not a believer in Texas Tech.

LSU sucking on defense is just so odd. Figured Texas would be given trouble by someone this season, but I was surprised at how good OK State looked. I would think they don't drop very far if at all after that game.

Yep, ACC is still nuts. Though after seeing 10 losses the past two years come by seven point or less, it's wonderful to see FSU actually keep winning these close games. Bowden kept saying maybe he was one player away from winning those, how odd that the one player is turning out to be a kicker.

Yeah Tech impressed me a bit today, but let's see how they do against Texas. I'm guessing they won't score quite as much.

What a clusterfuck at the top of the Big XII. Oklahoma fell what, five spots after losing to Texas by ten at a neutral site? Surely OK State will stay in the top 10 after losing by four in Austin. That means four Big XII teams in the top 10 still, with Mizzou probably just outside it after trouncing Colorado and a few teams ahead of them losing.

And fucking West Virginia is probably going to win the Big East again now.

With a trip to LSU suddenly looking much less daunting, it looks like Alabama will be undefeated going into the SEC title game. The Tide really look good, from what I've seen and read. Though I think it'd be hilarious if 'bama's undefeated season was derailed by losing to Auburn for seventh straight year.

Actually it would be hilarious if Alabama lost yet again to Mississippi State.
Ohio State had the ballgame in their backpocket when Pryor had to prove that he was a freshman and tried to get cute on a sneak. I don't think Penn State could have driven the field, late, with Devlin at QB and behind. That's why freshmen are freshmen, and the idiotic Hail Mary type pass with 30 seconds left and Ohio State driving was horrendous.
I don't know Big Ten tiebreakers, so I have this question: Penn State loses to Michigan State and it is 3 way tie with the above and Ohio State all at 1 conference loss in a round robin manner. Who then goes to the Rose Bowl?
I saw how bad the Notre Dame offense was in 2007. The Washington offense in 2008 is somehow even worse.

For the Big 10, obviously head to head comes first, then it moves to this:

"3) If there is still a tie for the championship, or if the tied teams did not play each other, the team that played more games against Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams shall be eliminated."

Well, that's an interesting way to decide things.

I'm not sure if these teams are FCS, but I think they are:

Ohio State:
Youngstown State

Penn State:
Coastal Carolina

Michigan State:
none?

Wow. Wouldn't THAT be something.

That's a pretty ridiculous tiebreaker. I mean, using the BCS standings like the Big East and Pac-10 (I think) do isn't perfect, but it makes more sense than that.

Not only would I not be surprised but I think Auburn will beat them. I don't think this is just an Auburn being better situation but one team owning the other. Auburn is in Alabama's head and no way would I trust John Parker Wilson on the line against Auburn (or LSU for that matter). I've seen him screw up too many games to count on him.

I KIND OF see where they're coming from. I'm guessing the logic is if you play a FCS team your schedule is weaker. Of course the problem with that is that Ohio State played a FCS team AND USC. You would think at the very least overall record would be a higher tiebreaker which would be in Penn State's favor since OSU and MSU have 2 losses each.

I saw USC and Arizona were tied at 10 and thought to myself. "They are just teasing me, USC will win". I flip to the game to watch it and it was already 17 - 10 by the time I got there. Damn Trojans.

This will shake out differently in an hour or so, but right now there are FIVE teams tied at 3-1 atop the Pac-8. As it is, the USC-Arizona winner and Oregon will be 4-1 with Cal and OSU 3-1.

Luckily all of the Pac-8 teams play each other so the tiebreaker SHOULD take care of itself.

Yeah, but none of the Pac-10 teams outside USC are ranked, so it matters slightly less.

If USC - who does not control their own destiny - doesn't win the Pac-8, will they not let the conference champ into the BCS? I think you are just cranky about this.

Actually, if Oregon State and USC win out (the latter being much more likely than the former, but...) you'll have REALLY highly-ranked USC in the BCS - possibly the title game - without USC beign the Pac-8 champs.

What was the year that nearly happened? Was it Nebraska one season? I think that was such an embarrassment to college football that, at least on the voters end, they won't let it happen. That's probably why LSU jumped a very angry Georgia team last year even though Georgia was (arguably) the hottest and best team at the time while LSU had just lost the last week of the regular season. I certainly hope they would do that since obviously a team that doesn't even win it's own conference shouldn't win the championship.

Nebraska and Oklahoma both made it to the BCS title game earlier this decade despite not winning the Big XII - Nebraska following the 2001 season and Oklahoma following the 2003 season. Both lost.

Yep. (Another edit - I really need to think all the way before posting - But Nebraska in 2001 did not even make their Big 12 title game after giving up 62 points in the final game to Colorado, who did make the Big 12 title game and BCS that year as well. That's something.)

Just another boring day of college football, huh? Does anyone want to win the Big East and ACC? USC got 'exposed' I suppose (I did not watch the game), but everyone knew it'd be a trap game. The top 3 teams all won again. I think only one top 10 team lost and that was a 4 point loss at the #1 team.

And the most important thing of all, Maryland has beaten an unranked team!!

Coastal Division: Virginia is in control of their own destiny in sole possession of first place.

Atlantic Division: Maryland, FSU, and BC are all 3-1. Wake's falling apart quicker than I expected, Clemson and NC State are out of it.

Big East: WVU controls their own destiny now that USF laid another turd and Pitt lost 54-31 (!) to 2-5 Rutgers.

Yep, just another Manic Saturday.

EDIT - Also, why the hell would a Big 10 team ever schedule a FCS team if THAT is the next tiebreaker? MSU going to the Rose Bowl because they played FAU instead of Coastal Carolina would be something.

(It ain't happening, though. Texas Tech/Penn State national title, believe.)

I knew something wasn't right, thanks. So if MD and FSU keep winning, the division comes down to November 22nd. And my best friend is a huge FSU fan. That will be something.

Yeah, that will be the de facto Atlantic Title Game and considering that (the improving) VA gave us our only conference loss, I'm not to thrilled to have a MD-VA rematch for the conference title if it comes down to it.

I think the Coastal will come down to a 4-way tie at this point, and I have no idea how they're going to decide it if everyone keeps beating each other.

I'm not even going to predict it coming down to FSU vs Maryland yet. Gotta beat GT at their place(seems like a win, but who knows), then Clemson(would be shocked if the team isn't ready for this one) and BC(????). FSU could roll into the Florida game 10-1 or 6-5. Equal odds.

And Oklahoma State only drops behind Georgia, Florida, Texas Tech and Utah. I'd say that's pretty fair. Maybe you can make an argument for Oklahoma State over Florida or Georgia but that will take care of itself next week when the Florida/Georgia loser drops back and the winner would then definitely deserve to be ahead of Oklahoma State. They could easily be back ahead of Texas Tech next week if Tech doesn't play as well against Texas as Oklahoma State did.

When we were talking about Michigan State I forgot to mention that Ringer really should get more Heisman love. The Big 12 QBs are putting up big numbers but the fact they are all putting up big numbers kind of diminishes it since clearly the style of play and weak pass defense are a factor. What Ringer is doing compared to other Big Ten RBs is more impressive than what any Big 12 QB is doing.
