So, Dexter's going to be a daddy, maybe. I wasn't too thrilled about that storyline and was worried that the show was going to prematurely jump the shark. However, this episode changed all of that. Jimmy Smits's character went from boring to crazy awesome in one episode. It looks like Jimmy's going to become Dexter's BFF. I like where this is going a lot. The show is at it's best when Dexter's plans are going awry and he's struggling to repair them.
I'm immediately intrigued by this season's plotline because, two episodes in, we still have no idea how it's actually going to shape up. S1 we knew Dexter would find the Ice Truck Killer and S2 we knew Dexter would eventually find some way to evade being fingered as the B.H. Butcher, but now....boy, I dunno. King of Keith is right, Jimmy Smits looks like he's going to be a great addition to the cast.
The actress playing the internal affairs cop is straight-up terrible.
“How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person I’m portraying. You’re confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says ‘I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard,’ and I said ‘You are aware that I am not really a wizard?’ and Peter Jackson said ‘I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show.’ So I said ‘Okay’ and then I said to myself ‘Mmm.. How do I do that?’ And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras
Sadly, I think this is one of those shows that's so good that you'll only be able to see the last four episodes on DVD. Of course, I felt that way about LOST and Arrested Development (which got about three seasons more than I thought it would)
