Same shit, different day for USF. Bulls weasel their way into the Top 10 and instantly lose. At least it was to Pittsburgh, who isn't having too shabby of a year at the moment. Then again, it's still Pittsburgh and they're still not ranked.
Meanwhile #15 Utah BARELY escapes a home loss at home to sub-.500 Oregon State. Man, if the Beavers had won that game... giant killers! But they didn't. So they aren't.
(EDIT: I always fuck up and forget to add the appropriate thread icon. Perhaps a mod can take care of that for me?)

Pitt was ranked and then proceeded to blow a lead at home to Bowling Green. Beating Iowa and Syracuse weren't going to get Wanny's team back in the polls. If you start thinking the Big XII and the SEC will not have anyone go through the season clean, the biggest head-to-head game of the year might be BYU/Utah, and that is probably going to be a Versus game.
Who'd have thought that Vandy/Auburn would be one of the biggest games of the weekend? College football has gone crazy!
Can't wait to see Mizzou go to Nebraska and win for the first time in 30 years(and if they somehow lose I'll pull a BoromirMark and avoid the college football threads until they win a big game)!
Wasn't anything to talk about (outside of pointless frustration at too much USC hype, Georgia inexplicably dropping in the polls, etc) until the big USC loss anyways.
Man, Oregon State, you were thiiiiiiiis close. My money's still on BYU as the non-BCS "BCS buster".
Michigan against the SEC: 20-5-1 (7-3 in bowl games)
I may have some major crow to eat after this weekend, given my boast to Eddie Famous last year that I promised I'd bookmark. I must admit that I'm less confident about it now than I was at the time. And Michigan getting 2.5 points is absurd. Nevertheless, I will take my beating from Eddie if they lose.
Originally posted by Eddie FamousIllinois should've beaten Michigan this year, and will next year.
Originally posted by meThat would be a neat trick seeing as how they've beaten U-M a total of three times since I've been alive. And next season's game is in Ann Arbor.
I'll bookmark this thread and we'll see next year.
After USC, the most overrated team in the country this year and last year is Illinois. Michigan should've won last year, and did. This year? It's a real toss up. But the points people putting Illinois as the underdog scares me, that probably jinxed the Michigan win right there. We'll see, it's still the year of rebuilding and we only needed one from Wisconsin or Illinois. We got it with Wisconsin. :D

Yeah that's Michigan's reputation...now. Lloyd Carr's out of the picture now, however. Within two years, maybe even next year, the new Michigan'll emerge and erase the mistakes of an overly-conservative, easily predictable, world-passed-him-by old coach.
And it still doesn't change the fact USC and Illinois, for the past two years, are the two most overrated and overhyped teams in the country.

Illinois? lol. Notre Dame maybe? Georgia?
And Lloyd Carr isn't coaching this year and you lost to a non-BCS team. That happened once last year too. Before that..not sure. I don't see how that is a Lloyd Carr issue.

yes because we've heard next to nothing about that Tebow kid and his team the past two years.
It's hilarious that a team that has been ranked in two different seasons in its 11-year history draws such venom, and so irrationally. I don't see nearly as much anger when Oklahoma and USC constantly lose to inferior conference opponents and remain in the top 10. I can't quite wrap my head around it.
USC lost more decisively to a worse opponent than USF did. Where's the outrage that the Trojans are still No. 9?
And "weasel" their way into the top 10? After Alabama, USF had the most impressive victory of any undefeated team in the country, at least according to the polls. So they lost - shock! I thought every team goes undefeated every year.

It's us irrational types that actually watch them play in that crap conference and realize they aren't top ten caliber.
And wouldn't you know it we end up right every time? Crazy.

So what's the problem with them being ranked high if they just lose it anyways, exactly...?

Why does USC get ranked No. 1 every year when we know they're going to lose to the Oregon States and Stanfords of the world? Why do we keep letting Oklahoma in BCS games when we know the Sooners are going to lose? And why aren't you as critical of these decisions?
So USF was 5-0 with a win over the team now ranked No. 16 in the country. Where, exactly, would you have had them ranked going into this week?

Because they deserve it at the time?
When I am bored later I am going to find that delusional UM fan's post who ridiculed Illinois and said they got lucky last year and won't win this year and why is Fresno ahead of Michigan blah blah. Good times.
EDIT!! FOUND IT!!
Illinois - Win. Most overrated team EVER. If this was still Carr's regime, it might be a close game. But look at last year: explosive running back, explosive QB. The spread. In Illinois. All the ingredients were there for them on their own team, and their opposition was a deflated Michigan team whose coaching/conditioning had been proven completely vulnerable against the spread and such speedy talent. Yet Michigan still won THAT game. Now with this year being under Rich-Rod (who practically invented the spread), in Ann Arbor, with said running back gone? All because an overconfident and overrated Ohio State team laid an egg in their own backyard? Please. Illinois will not win. Nor will they meet preseason expectations. They will crash, burn, and flame out.
I think this was just the end of the rope for Haslett in NO. He hasn't taken the Saints to the playoffs since 2000, his first year as a head coach and has only one playoff win in six years with the team.
