TONIGHT: A tag match is the main event, surprise surprise. Its Chris Jericho and Lance Cade vs. Shawn Michaels and a Mystery Partner. Will it be Paul London? Bryan Danielson? Marty Jannetty? Kevin Nash? Sid? Nah, itll probably just be Triple H. In addition, Beth Phoenix & Jillian face Kelly Kelly and Candice Michelle. Plus an eight-man tag will see Rey Mysterio, CM Punk, Evan Bourne & Kofi Kingston face Kane, Cody Rhodes, Ted Dibiase & Manu. Singles matches, anyone?

-WWE Open.

-Raw Open.

-Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler opened the show, previewing Shawn Michaels and a mystery partner vs. Chris Jericho and Lance Cade.

-There will also be a preview of the Wrestlemania show to be shown on MyNetwork TV Thursday night.

(1) Batista vs. Santino Marella
Santino had the monkeys in the truck put up the Honk-A-Meter before the match. Marella said he brought some additional visual aides for Baptista. It was a Brain Barometer on the screen. He said the average brain has six trillion brain cells. Santino showed on the graphic that he had 10 trillion. Baptista has just 12 according to Santino. And he was going to knock ten out of Batista tonight and leave him in worse shape than the U.S. economy.

Batista laid in the shoulders into Santinos gut in the corner, then hit a corner clothesline and spinebuster. He went for the Batista Bomb and hit it. Fin.

Winner: Batista, at :48.

After the match, Beth got on the apron to distract Batista while JBL came out of the crowd and hit the clothesline from hell on Batista. Basic booking 101 here.

-Todd Grisham was backstage with Shawn Michaels. Michaels said he knew Lance Cade was good when he trained him, but didnt think Cade would show the world that at his expense. HBK told Jericho he has six days to walk around as champion because at No Mercy, he would walk out as champion. Grisham asked about a partner for tonight. Michaels asked about a tag-team of him and a Real American. No reaction. He then asked about him and a Texas Rattlesnake. Crowd then cheered a lot. Oh, the Real American was Hogan. I didnt catch that at first. HBK asked about him and The Best There Is, The Best There Was and the Best There Ever Will Be. Some boos, some cheers. He said hes looking for a partner that actually likes him. Yep, definitely Triple H. What a downer.

[Commercial Break]

(2) JTG vs. The Miz
When the team came out, I thought, Dibiase & Rhodes are already in a match and there are no other tag teams...who are they going to fight? Then I heard Lillian just announce JTG. Sad. Clips aired of the latest Dirt Sheet where the boys pretended to interview Cryme Tymes parents.

Shoulderblock and dropkick by JTG. Miz came back with the stun gun on JTG. Legdrop by Miz for two. JTG rolled up Miz for just a two-count, and Miz clotheslined JTG to regain momentum. JTG got distracted by Morrison, who paid for it via Shad, but the distraction allowed Miz to hit his finisher for the victory.

Winner: Miz, at 3:46.

-Walking backstage, Jamie Noble came upon Jillian preening in the mirror. Noble wanted to ask her a favor, as long as Jillian wouldnt sing. He asked if she could be his partner for a match against Paul & Kaite Burchill. Jillian asked Jamie why she would be seen with him if Layla wouldnt. She started singing and Dolph Ziggler walked up and introduced himself to both of them. Jillian even had him repeat it. Noble needed to find a partner, as his match is next.

[Commercial Break]

(3) Jamie Noble & Mickie James vs. Paul Burchill & Katie Lea- Inter-Gender Tag Match
Before the match, William Regal and Layla came out onto the ramp and sat in a kingly chair to watch the match.

Right before the match started, Mickie came out to team with Noble. Noble started off against Burchill when Katie tagged in. She went for a quick cover that got a one-count. Noble got Katie by the leg and pusher her into the corner, then tagged Mickie. Mickie got tripped up by Paul when the ref was distracted by Noble. James worked out of a rest-hold and hit a neckbreaker. Both ladies were down and soon after made tags. Side suplex onto the much bigger Burchill. He shouted This is for you! at Layla, then hit a dropkick for the top rope. The cover was broken up by Katie. Mickie dove onto her and threw her out of the ring. Burchill came back with a European uppercut, but Noble bridged and turned it into an arm-bar for a quick tap-out.

Winners: Noble & Mickie, at 3:45. Fun little match.

-Shawn Michaels and a partner of his choice face Chris Jericho and Lance Cade.

-Also, an eight-man tag match with Kofi, Rey, Punk and Bourne against Cody, Teddy, Manu and Kane.

[Commercial Break]

-Rhodes, Dibiase and Manu were walking through the bowels of the building in search of Kane. Cody reiterated to Manu that HE wanted to do the talking. They finally found Kane, basking in a healthy red glow. Cody reminded Kane that his father was Paul Bearer, making him a second generation superstar, just like them. Rhodes said if they acted as a unit, theyd be OK for their match. Dibiase told Kane he wanted to make sure theyre all on the same page. Kane finally spoke, saying he doesnt take orders from anyone and thatll he massacre Rey Rey tonight, same page or no. He told them to stay out of his way, then said he was going to see Mike Adamle.

-Highlights were shown of last weeks main event match.

-Lance Cade came out to some terribly generic rock music. Cade said he is the man that beat his one-time mentor in Shawn Michaels, but said he has learned more from Jericho in three months than he learned from HBK in ten years. He said Jericho is just better, period. Cade said HBK will lose to him again tonight, or lose to Jericho tonight, a pre-cursor for Sunday. He said Jericho would still be champion on Sunday.

-CM Punk and Rey Mysterio came out for the eight-man tag, which is next.

[Commercial Break]

(4) CM Punk & Rey Mysterio & Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne vs. Ted Dibiase & Cody Rhodes & Manu & Kane
Bourne flipped himself out of a suplex by Manu and tagged Rey. They did some double-teaming, including Rey catapulting Bourne onto Manu on the outside. The tag champs missed clotheslines and that sent them over the top. Kingston and Punk jumped onto them and Rey leapt onto Kane on the outside.

[Commercial Break]

The show returned with Rhodes grounding Bourne. After a tag, Punk came back against Manu, and even hit Dibiase on the apron with a kick. But it allowed Manu to get a strike of his own in and tag Cody. They tried to isolate Punk in the corner, but the numbers game was too much. The heels mainly worked the left leg of Punk. CM tried to make a comeback against Rhodes, but couldnt. He finally hit an enziguiri on Kane a minute later, but just missed on making the tag. Kane booted Rey right in the head before he dragged Punk back to the corner. A missed elbow by Rhodes allowed Kingston to come in and light the match up with his controlled frenzy of offense, as Michael Cole would say. The match really started breaking down when Kane tagged in. Mysterio dropkicked him in the back and Kofi tried to leap onto him but Kane caught him and chokeslammed him. Pinfall followed.

Winners: Kane, Dibiase, Rhodes and Kane at 12:41. Very good match. Kane is the only one I could do without in this match, and he didnt see much action. They kept Rey and Kane apart wisely, and Kane got the pin, making sense since hes the one on the heel side that has a match Sunday.

-They plugged the tag match main event for tonight.

[Commercial Break]

-Mike Adamle was in the ring and noted that earlier tonight, Kane made a request and Adamle would grant the request if Kane won. He said that should Kane beat Rey this Sunday, Rey would have to take off his mask in the middle of the ring. Right after that announcement, Randy Orton came out. Orton said he wanted to make sure Adamle had his cell phone on him. Orton said he assumed that Adamle would have to call Shane McMahon after making the announcement, or will he do that after picking up Shanes dry clean and shine his shoes. Adamle said he didnt like Ortons tone, but Orton said he didnt like Adamle cowering in front of Shane, and asked Adamle to stand up for himself and re-suspend Punk. Orton said hed own things once he got healthy enough to be in the ring. Then JBL interrupted.

JBL said hes had a bad week and will make it short, since hes lost more money this week than most people have ever seen. He said his wife would be testifying in front of congress next week and next week, hed have beaten Batista and he will be in the ring next week challenging HBK or Jericho for the title. JBL accused Orton of living in the past. He asked Adamle to make it so that when he becomes champion, Randy Orton never gets a shot at the title. Then Batista came out. Oh goodie. Another one of THESE segments.

Or maybe not. Batista came out of the crowd and speared JBL, who was waiting for Batista to come down the aisle. Batista said he knows JBL has had a bad week, but by No Mercy, itll get worse.

-Santino was on his cell phone backstage, talking to what sounded like a woman, until he ran into Beth, and hastily ditched the phone and Frank. Marella told Beth it was a sick kid named Frankie and after his loss, he took a turn for the worse. Santino told Beth hed come to the ring with her, but Beth stopped him short of a kiss, then said he cost her the match with Kelly last week and he wasnt needed this week. Marella said he was glad Phoenix didnt have a Fabulous Moolah-meter because she trails her by like 22 years. Funny. When Beth left to go to the ring, Santino got back on his phone.

-Candice Michelle and Kelly Kelly were walking backstage, headed to the ring for their match.

[Commercial Break]

(5) Kelly Kelly & Candice Michelle vs. Beth Phoenix & Jillian Hall
Candice went after Beths leg, and she and Kelly double-dropkicked the Glamazon. Candice came off the top with a double axe-handle. Beth powered her into the corner and tagged Hall. Jillian really put the boots to Candice, then tagged Phoenix back in. Back in, Jillian stepped on Candices back and stretched her out. Unlike the crowd that was into Mickie trying to get her to comeback, the crowd was so bored that they chanted We want puppies. Apparently Candice wasnt worth getting behind. Both women were down and both made tags. Kelly fired off some forearms on Beth, then a screaming head-scissors. Beth flipped Kelly over, but she landed on her feet. Beth took her out anyway and got two on a pin. Candice came in to break it up. Kelly looked to get a roll-up again, but Beth rolled out and chicken-wing slammed Kelly for the pin.

Winners: Beth and Jillian, at 4:23. OK match, but nothing special. Candice still doesnt excite me (or anyone) as a contender for the title, and this match did little to get me amped for their match at the PPV.

-Cole and Lawler once again plugged the number of episodes Raw has had, then went into plugging HBK and a partner vs. Jericho & Cade.

[Commercial Break]

(6) Deuce vs. The Great Char-Lie
Khalis music? Ah.....It was Haas coming to the ring, walking like Khali (and they even had the camera angle down), some chin putty and a wig. But he had the real Ranjin Singh come down with him for some reason. Haas even got the mic and shouted like Khali. Singh translated and Haas spoke again, this time, about curry.

Haas got a giant chop on Deuce, but it didnt have the same effect. Headbutt, as I heard some Char-lie chants. He went for a Char-Lie bomb, but Deuce kicked him in the head. High face-plant by Deuce. Char-Lie got his foot up, then spun off the mat and lost the wig. Haas hit some nice punched and a dropkick as the crowd seemed to lose interest. Clothesline off the top rope for the win. He went back to the wig and mannerisms afterward.

Winner: The Great Char-Lie, at 1:31.

After the match, the real Great Khali came out with Ranjin Singh. Haas was clapping as if he expected Khali to like the impression. Khali was smiling, but then chopped Haas in the head.

-HBK & a partner vs. Jericho & Cade is next.

[Commercial Break]

-Cole plugged WWE on TV this week.

-We got the sneak peek at the WM show that will be on Thursday night.

-Cole and Lawler previewed No Mercy.

-Jericho and Cade came out for the main event. Jericho got the mic and was offended and insulted by someone wishing him luck on Sunday when he got into the building. He told Cade to get a ladder from underneath the ring. Jericho said hes obsessed about what happens BEFORE he goes to grab the title. Jericho would say what hed do to Michaels with the ladder, and Cade demonstrated it with the ladder on the outside. Jericho did it himself when Cade brought it into the ring. He said no one knows how to maim someone with a ladder more than him. Jericho said he doesnt believe in luck, then walked under the ladder as an example. The match is next.

[Commercial Break]

(7) Chris Jericho & Lance Cade vs. Shawn Michaels & Triple H
Michaels came out, then ran backstage. There was a long pause, and the DX music hit. Ho-hum. HBK and Triple H came out with DX paraphernalia on.

Bell rang at 11:03 EST. Triple H started off with Jericho, but Jericho blocked a high knee and went for a Walls. Triple H flipped out and in came Cade. Michaels himself tagged in and did a number on Cade. He chased Jericho into the ring and Cade nailed HBK with a big boot. The heels were able to isolate HBK. Jericho missed a moonsault and both men made tags. HHH hit his usual moves, but sold a little more for Cade than expected. Pedigree, but Jericho hit the Codebreaker on HHH. Michaels came in to interfere, but was clotheslined by Cade. The ref called for the bell when Jericho and Cade double-teamed HBK beyond the five-count.

Winners: HBK and HHH at 4:55.

Jericho retrieved a ladder to hit Michaels with, but left the ring when he saw Triple H with a sledgehammer. HHH nailed Cade in the gut, the HBK superkicked him and HHH Pedigreed him. They positioned Cade in the middle of the ring, and HBK hit an elbowdrop 2/3 of the way up the ladder.

Splash. It should have been an elbow drop, but I think they had the ladder too close to Cade.

Naw, I think it was supposed to recall the clip of Michaels splashing Razor Ramon from WM X they'd always play.

Interesting to see Punk's "7 REG DUNLOP" tribute inked on his tape - too culturally straight edge for me without the benefit of Google. (Kim knew.)

BAPTISTA SQUASH TOTALLY DEVALUES INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP FNAR FNAR

I'm super glad I didn't pay to see it in person (although...at least they FINALLY sold enough so that they didn't have to swap out the upper deck seats, like they did for us the past two years, so if I had really been paying attention and picked up some Sec 231 Row A seats during the presale THIS time...we would actually have gotten them).

Poor Deuce, never gets noticed for being the son of a legend, Jimmy Snuka.

HHH being his mystery partner was the worst secret.......

They finally making the son of Alfa (Wild Samoan) look actually like a Samoan (bushy hair)

Haas was funny.

I thought they had a 30 day rule on defending title belts.. I don't think Santino has defended it in 30 days...... Like it matters, the tag team and Intercontinental titles are a joke these days.

CM Punk is back to mid-card status... Man did that die or what?

Smarky insider knowledge

HHH being his mystery partner was the worst secret.......
WWE actually gives their audience what they want?! I must crap on it in a message posted to the Internet!

They finally making the son of Alfa (Wild Samoan) look actually like a Samoan (bushy hair)
Misuse of 1) grammar 2) insider knowledge by misspelling "Afa" 3) adding "(Wild Samoan)" because you're worried the audience might not understand your insider reference and therefore your cleverness - AND the slight whiff of racism, however unintentional, is a bonus. Fortunately, we have no Samoans posting here to my knowledge so you can get away with that. (If we do, they have done a great job of keeping it quiet. You know how those Samoans post!)

    Haas was funny.
This one I can't argue with actually since you didn't invoke the real life name of Ranjin Singh (it's Dave Kapoor! I read it on the Internet!) and wonder aloud about which RAW writer might have written his lines (because he's a Smackdown writer! Insider knowledge!)

I thought they had a 30 day rule on defending title belts.. I don't think Santino has defended it in 30 days...... Like it matters, the tag team and Intercontinental titles are a joke these days.
Hell, I tried to pre-empt comments JUST like this with MY post. I HATE being ignored. (I guess that's how you end up with a post like this!)

CM Punk is back to mid-card status... Man did that die or what?
This really needs a comment about someone "holding him down" for that perfect smarky blend but you've done well enough.

Finally, please try to take this as me showing enough love for you to devote so much time to crafting this reply, rather than me just being mean to a smarky smark smark for the hell of it. Because....it's both, really.

This Michaels-Jericho feud has lost a bit of its steam. HBK seems to have gone back to his usual self, focusing his promo on winning the world title, not on destroying Jericho or citing all of the past pain he's caused him. I guess Sunday is the blowoff anyway, and at least the rivalry lasted this long before degenerating into a 'regular feud.'

Santino's line about the Moolah-meter was gold.

How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person Im portraying. Youre confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard, and I said You are aware that I am not really a wizard? and Peter Jackson said I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show. So I said Okay and then I said to myself Mmm.. How do I do that? And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras

I *did* pay to go see the show, so whether or not that makes me dumber than CRZ, I don't know.

It was a fun live show, I've been to better, but it was still enjoyable. Some things that you might not have seen (or didn't).

Dark Match:

Dolph Ziggler d. D'Lo Brown

Big pop for D'Lo, but Dolph wins it. Befroe and after the match, he introduced himself to the crowd. So he's got that going for him.

During the Show:

-Despite being fairly dispicable heels, Kane and Chris Jericho got some serious cheers.

-Todd Grisham is *so* over reading other people's signs.

-Mickie James is a billion times more over than Candice Michelle.

-The Great Charli was possibly more funny in person than at home. Though I think they missed a great fakeout opportunity by having Charlie HHHaas come out as Shawn Michaels' mystery partner.

-Chris Jericho left the ring and did his whole entrance again during the ad break. That was really strange.

-Even though we all knew it was coming, everybody went batshit when the DX music hit.

After the Show:

-We were promised a Kane/Jericho vs. Misterio/Michaels dark match, but I guess the DX Reunion superceeded any plans of that. As it was, Hunter and Shawn went through their whole DX schpiel including the requisite (and very funny) asides by HHH trying to derail it. Then they spent about fifteen minutes running around ringside shaking hands and taking pictures, which was pretty cool of them.

Biggest crowd I've seen at the Target Center since the heyday of WCW, so it's nice to see them reclaiming at least one market.

RAW is pointless secrets and mysteries.

There isn't anyone between the ages of 8 and 88 who didn't know Shawn Michaels' "mystery partner" was Triple H. Just the way HBK all of a sudden went from his grim "I was gonna retire because my eye was falling out of its socket but then my wife got punched in the face" demeanor these past three months to acting like a goofy teenager with Todd Grisham was indicator enough of a DX reunion. Why WWE even pretended to keep it a secret when it was completely bloody obvious, I'll never know.

For that matter, the concurrent "Who will Jamie Noble's Diva tag team partner be?" mystery sure was a real nailbiter. Let's see, Beth Phoenix the Glamourous Amazon and Jillian vs. Candice and Kelly Kelly Kelly was announced on wwe.com. Jamie needs a babyface Diva. Who could it be? Who? Who?! Shh. It's a secret.

(Also, and this is just me wondering aloud... but I think there might be TWO Brie Bellas. Shhhh.)

Paul Birchill just can't ever wait to tap to Noble's cross armbreaker. Just call that move the Burchill Killer.

There was a moment in between Baptista's howling laughter the entire time Santino was talking that I'm certain I saw fear in the Manimal's eyes. Genuine abject fear. In fact, he hid the terror swelling up in his heart of Santino knocking out 10 of his 12 brain cells with desperate laughter. The Brain Barometer does not lie!

I'm not sure how Cody Rhodes came to the conclusion Kane isn't "a tag team type of guy." I suppose not. I mean, Kane's only held tag team championships with X-Pac, Big Show, Rob Van Dam, Mankind, the Hurricane, and the Undertaker. But no, clearly, not a tag team type of guy. There's also a teeny flaw in Cody's rationale that Kane's a second generation superstar because he's the son of Paul Bearer. Hmm. What could that flaw be?

During the Rey-Bourne-Kofi-Punk Stunt Show Spectacular, Michael Cole also made another one of his questionable calls: "Kofi Kingston lighting it up!" After the match, Michael. He'll relax the traditional Jamaican way. Considering the finish, time to update last week's score card: Four little flying dudes < Kane. Because Kane is BIG.

Why can't Beth Phoenix have a Fabulous Moolah-Meter? And who was Santino talking to on his cell phone? Another secret!

I honestly forget how much people love DX. After their horrible run in 2006, DX reunions give me ulcers. And considering my fiercely pro-Chris Jericho-should-get-whatever-he-wants agenda when watching RAW, D-Generation X coming down the aisle is a waking nightmare for me. Thank goodness Lance Cade was there to take the brunt of the beating (and thank YOU, Triple H, for taking the Codebreaker!) so the World Heavyweight Champion could slink up the aisle and live to fight another day. (That would be Friday.) I loved Jericho's motivational yelling at Cade from the aisle ("C'mon Cade!") while Cade took the superkick, the Pedigree, and the splash from the ladder.

I'm dreading this Champion of Champions match on Smackdown this Friday, I'll tell you that much. I'll drive to Stamford and spit in the booker's face** if Chris Jericho goes down to Triple H. (And to a lesser extent, if Beth Phoenix goes down to Michelle McCool.) On behalf of the Jerichoholics of the world, I volunteer Matt Hardy to do the honors and stare at the lights on Friday. What else is he there for?

** Too much? Maybe I'll change "spit in the booker's face" to "personally deliver a Sternly Worded Letter of Complaint". Yes, that'll do.

I might be wrong, but having HHH show up to give him and Jericho a tad more beef for friday sounds good.
Then Jericho can cut a promo how he has come to H's show and will show who the real champion is.
And then of course he sneaks out of the ring while HHH pins Matt Hardy. It will make him an even bigger jerk.
It's a simple wrestling story. Nothing wrong with that.

And really, for an experienced wrestling viewer, is ANYTHING ever really a surprise?
Kane destroys small guys so Rey looks all the more amazing for finally pulling off the victory and revenge.
At least I hope that will happen *grin*

Something about last night RAW makes me want to fire Coach Somebody......I'm suprised they didn't take that guys sign, especially with him being in the center of most mid ring shots.

Some guy ran across the front row of the main event with a sign reading "Triple H fears divorce". Sadly the best part of the show to me.

I don't think Punk's in the mid-card exactly. Probably upper mid, seeing as how Orton is still trying to get Punk suspended. I'm sure he'll be in the Main again soon.

Wow. No reaction for a "Real American". Ok, second best part of RAW.

Even thought the Lovely Mrs. Tracker watches wrestling and makes references as a way to win over her students, she doesn't give it her full attention. Not anymore. That stopped when Kurt Angle left. She's reading or grading papers. But when Santino comes on the screen, she stops and watches and laughs out loud. The brain jokes had her rolling. Also, Beth had great facial expressions when she did the mental math next to Santino.

Orton's arms look like he fell into a box of tattoos. He looks horrible. He needs MVP's sleeve suit.

Kane continues to be a highlight each week.

Was Triple H running the entrance last night? Looked like he called the timing of the crotch-chops and the ring slide to Michaels.

Miz and JTG had a nice little match there.

Maybe a little, but he still seems to be getting a good crowd reaction, and he is involved in a semi-main type storyline tied in with Punk/Orton and the second-gens. He was just the right person to transition the IC title off Jericho and on to Santino. I, for one, enjoy his work.

This wasn't that great of a Raw, but there was nothing particularly bad. The Raw before a PPV usually isn't that good anyway.

Santino is gold as always, but they need to give him SOME ring credibility. Even the Honky Tonky Man got to look a little credible.

I'm enjoying the renewed focus on tag teams. They aren't there yet, but at least it seems that they are trying. I just wish they give the big multi-person tags more time.

I hope they are listening in the back to the difference in pops for Mickie and Candace.

Am I the only one getting tired of the seemingly weekly promo where there are multiple interuptions?

The Great Charlie was decent, but not the best. Funny to see Khali smile a little and get to show some personality before he killed Hass.

The SECRET MYSTERY PARTNER was the worst secret ever. Decent 5-minute match with a lame ending. As someone else said, Jericho standing on the ramp while encouraging Cade was classic.

This was the best part of the show for me. Khali was trying to do his "me big monster" routine, but you could tell that he was really getting a kick out of the whole thing.

He achieved semi-legendary status in the AWA. Since these two, along with Bobby Heenan, Nick Bockwinkle, and Larry Hennig were brought in for a meet-and-greet in conjunction with a Milwaukee Admirals game, they're all "legends".
