Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

Nothing warms my heart more than watching USC prove once again that it's perpetually overrated.

The path is now clear for an SEC (Georgia/Florida/LSU/whoever) v. Big 12 (Oklahoma or Missouri) BCS title game, as it always should have been.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

I don't like where this is going. I realize it's a long shot, but I have a bad feeling that somehow, someway, Ohio State will worm its way back into the National Title discussion. I can just feel it. The fall of the Trojans is just the beginning...

Considering how dominant USC looked a few weeks ago against Ohio State and how pathetic Oregon State was a few weeks ago against Penn State, this should be shocking, but it really isn't. USC has fallen into a Georgia, Clemson, Michigan State pattern where they screw up when they shouldn't for several years in a row. They sleepwalk for 2-3 quarters, then try a late rally to save their ass. Usually, it works once or twice before it fails. To even sniff having an outside shot of getting back in the national title race with the rest of the Pac-10 down, USC is going to need Notre Dame to run the table before they get to the Coliseum, and that is highly doubtful.
I'm sure the committee in Pasadena is thrilled now that they will get a Pac-10 team in the Rose Bowl.

Really? Cause I don't see anyone coming out of either of those conferences undefeated. I mean there's probably a better chance that say Penn State does. Then what? Or maybe even a Wake Forest? Way too early to say it's the SEC vs Big 12 for sure.

And how come Texas Kelly doesn't think Texas has a shot? I think they're pretty good.

I don't think they are ever overrated in terms of "are they one of the top teams this year", because clearly they are even with this loss. I will agree that the "they won two games they are the greatest team of all-TYME" thing is a bit old. They weren't overranked at the beginning of the year, and their body of work (OK, two games) was right up there with anyone in the country. Losing on the road isn't an entirely unexpected thing for ANY team, and I wonder if Carroll is wishing they hadn't had that bye last week.

I just REALLY hope someone else besides Ohio State wins the Big Ten, because with USC having a loss that would set up USC-Ohio State II, and no one needs to see that.

Yeah, but I'd take one loss teams out of the SEC/Big 12 over 1 loss teams in any other conference.

What a shocker - you throw out a potshot and a fan of your rival shoots back. OOOOOOOH. Enjoy your crappy Detroit/Michigan teams while you take potshots at rivals who are doing better.

I don't care if Ohio State gets trashed nationally, they still have had a fantastic record over the last several years and have provided me with a lot of enjoyment, especially beating Michigan again and again and again. They had their recent shots at the MNC and failed. At least they got that far, and I think the idea that they could potentially work their way back into the mix this year says a lot too. Will they be able to run the table the rest of the way? Given their recent play, I certainly don't think so. But at this point, at least it is still *possible*.

I'd love to hear the logic behind that after USC just beat Ohio State 35-3.

Stranger things have happened. Look at Nebraska in 2001. Got blown out in their last game, didn't even make it to the Big XII championship game, but they get in the big game anyway.

No, since you quoted me just fine. (Just for reference, here's the thread you ripped my quote from.) If you like cussing, knock yourslf out. I'm not one who cares to do that so much, so if you do edit it, please remove the quote marks, okay?

Please feel free to PM me and explain how a personal retort is "good spirited rivalry smack" so we don't spam the thread with this anymore. I'm done responding to you in threads.

Psycho - all that would have to happen to nullify that situation is for USC to fall one more time and OSU to run the table. Of course I also imagine that every other team would have to have at least 2 losses for OSU to even get consideration for the MNC game due to their recent losses.

J, you should know how the Buckeye faithful respond to anything. A shot at their beloved accept-all-comers farming college is a shot at themselves and their souls. They can not disassociate themselves. They are crazy, insane, rabid people who can not be reasoned with. Even jokes, like your comment, will set them off. Leave them and their payroll be.

I'm definitely in lock-step with the OP, aside from Ohio State being crushed there is nothing more satisfying in college football than USC beaten and Pete Carroll looking confused and like he sucked on a lemon. One of the best things about sports, in my mind, are the illogical but real stigmas. Cubs can't win the World Series, the Lions/Cardinals continuously swirl around the toilet bowl, Steve Spurrier owns fat Phil Fulmer and Tennessee, and now Pete Carroll can't win in Corvallis.

This is also faintly karmic after the unexplainable removal of Georgia from its number one ranking despite having done nothing but win. That wouldn't have happened for any other team BUT USC, which is part of why a) they are annually overrated and b) it is so enjoyable to see them exposed and beat. You just know that if USC had somehow won that game 24-21, they'd remain at #1 when any other team in the same situation would have been displaced. The national media fawning for that program is beyond ridiculous.

Georgia looking EXTREMELY vulnerable against a mediocre at best South Carolina team keeps me from believing they should be #1. Reason USC went to #1 was because it allowed TV to build up the Ohio State/USC game as #1 vs. #2, but Ohio State had to screw that part up by struggling against Ohio and dropping to #5. If the chalks holds the rest of the weekend, which really hasn't been the case the past few years, Oklahoma will end up going into next week as #1, with the SEC teams at 2,3,4.
As for Texas being mentioned earlier in the thread: I'm not a fan of their QB and they've faded late in the season the last 2 seasons. As for Texas Tech: If there is 1 team in the country where I have to put my finger in the wound to believe in them, it is them. They always have at least one good 59-31 loss in them per season.

Could be worse...you can have a team like UW, which has blown it's shot at winning any games this season. Hopefully this team of freshmen will mature and be really good over the next couple of years. Now if we only had an actual running game so Locker didn't have to get pulverized every game.

Of course, if OU beats TCU, they will be number one. For many years now USC and OU both torch the same teams they do every year and get hyped a ton, only to lose games they shouldn't. Or maybe they should. But yes the USC love fest will turn into the OU love fest until they lose a game.

As for Texas, I think Colt is a solid QB who's looking better this year, but more importantly I think their D is improving and that could be enough to get them over the OU hump. Though I'm not totally sold on that yet. Partly because you never know if OU is legit or not.

But yeah Tech is not going to win the Big 12.

Lots of stuff to debate here. Thanks guys, I love this board

Jobberman: That's different. I am talking about a USC/Ohio State debate if they both have one loss at the end of the year. Colorado, who beat Nebraska by some ridiculous score like 62-35 or something, had TWO losses that year.

redsoxnation: Looking vunerable against an SEC rival DROPS you why exactly? So you have to win every game by 50 to stay #1?

Rush4Life: Took me a minute to find UW's schedule (did you know Athlon magazine ranked them 50th? in the FBS?) and they still have a shot vs Stanford, UCLA, and WSU.

wmtyastic: Don't say stuff like "every year". I've seen Oklahoma and USC win national titles and I've been watching college football since 2000. Also, Tech has a chance to win the Big 12. They have three tough games left (at Kansas, Texas, at Oklahoma) and I think they can win all 3 to be honest.

Oh yeah, GO TERPS. BEAT CLEMSON. It's so awesome to see nearly 20 posts here before real gameday. I love college football :)
