In the crazy, topsy-turvy world of professional sports premature firings far outweigh those that are hideously long overdue.

Kudos to the Lions for doing their bit to redress the balance.

You mean with the way they've been playing for the last three years, Millen's not getting another extension? I'm shocked!

All right, Detroit's nightmare is over. Now they can go back to their glory days of Fontes and Sanders when they would get into the playoffs at 9-7, only to get crushed by the Packers.

To think that this could've occurred MUCH earlier if Bill Ford Jr. had spoken up in. . .say. . .2004.

The Lions organization should really take a look at Floyd Reese to fill that position.

He's actually thought this way for a few years now and even told his father in private (Lions reporters have intimated this on the radio) that Millen should have been fired. My guess is he probably didn't want to publicly embarrass his father by saying it to the media, but I guess even Jr. had his breaking point.

Millen's out, and that's great. He was an inept chimp as a general manager. But Ford Senior is still around, alive, and kicking. Don't think that removing a mole is going to cure the Lions' cancer.

Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard! Good luck to those down south.

Can't have a termination of employment without ol' Vinnie Mac weighing in on this.

The Lions still have Jon Kitna. There's zero point in having all those high end recievers and a schlub at QB.

And you'd think that Millen of all people would've known the importance of a strong offensive line.

I really wish some reporter would track down the owners and ask what took so long. Just to hear the rationale behind keeping him so long.

Many times it's better for ownership to have a consistent fall guy. Makes it easier for ineptness to roll downhill

They are old people. Do you know any old people who like to pay for things for nothing? That's the only explanation. (See: Davis, Al.)

OK, I'll eat crow now. The day I thought would NEVER come has happened. Anything is possible. Life is good. Change can happen.

The Lions will still suck, but there is a small, tiny, little sliver of hope. Maybe now the Lions can draft someone, not a receiver, who will still be with the team 3 years later.

I'm happy.

There's no way a network could put Millen back on games with people knowing he is an imbecile, is there?
Matt Millen: Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders? Wait, you wouldn't put that past Al?
Congratulations to the Lions fans for being rid of the imbecile who drove the franchise into the ground for a little under a decade. Unfortunately, the people who gave the imbecile to you plus 4 decades of futility prior to that are still in charge.

It seems like there are plenty of ineffectual players and/or coaches/gms that become analysts.

And he was a good/popular analyst before working for the Lions.

I don't care one way or the other about Favre, but it's real easy for Favre to say that he isn't against banning him for a year when the decision has already been made.
