TONIGHT: We have a new, surprise champion. What will he have to say tonight. Plus: Beth Phoenix puts her title on the line in a re-match against Mickie James. Plus, what is in store for the tag champs and their newest addition?

-WWE Open.

-Straight to the arena we go, and Lilian Garcia. She introduced the new World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Jericho. Chris was all smiles, with his now-trademark suit and the title over his shoulder. “I am Chris Jericho....and I am the new World Heavyweight Champion” he began. Jericho said he fought the self-righteous HBK last night and then took off his shirt and showed off his battle wounds. I noticed the have “Live” next to the WWE logo in the corner of the screen. Close-ups of the welts and bruises drew cheers from the fans. Jericho said HBK whipped him like a dog (I was hoping for, “like a government mule”). He chided the fans for cheering it. He said Michaels may have won the match, but it was unsanctioned, which meant it wasn’t official and it was as if it didn’t happen, so Michaels accomplished nothing. “What did I accomplish last night?” he asked, then raised the title and said, “this.”

He said six months ago, he said good things happen to good people, and he’s a good person. He said after his match last night, Mike Adamle came up to him in the locker room and asked if he could take CM Punk’s place. He reminisced to his undisputed title reign and said everyone is forced to recognize and respect just how good he is now. He said Shawn was right, he’ll never be him: He’s better.

Mike Adamle walked out to the stage to congratulate Jericho and also to update Punk’s condition. He said Punk suffered a concussion and wasn’t cleared to compete last night. He applauded Jericho for answering the call last night. Adamle noted that Punk lost without having a chance to defend it and also said Punk wasn’t there for Raw. But next week, he’ll be given a chance to regain his title. CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho for the World Title. Not much of a pop, but I guess they’re disappointed they didn’t get the match maybe? Adamle said the match would take place inside a steel cage. Jericho said that wouldn’t bother him and then said he’s had enough of the abuse from the hypocrites (fans), and was leaving. Adamle told him to wait, because there’s more. He said he needed a main event for tonight. Chris Jericho vs. Batista was made for later in the show. The announcement made Jericho wince from his bruises and scars in a nice touch.

-The women’s title will be on the line next, Beth Phoenix vs. Mickie James.

[Break]

-Candice Michelle came out to watch the women’s match. She’ll face the winner for the title at No Mercy.

(1) Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix- Women’s Title Match
Strangely, “Live” has been taken out of the corner near the logo now. Beth picked Mickie up and hung her throat-first on the top rope, then rammed her into the ringpost. In the ring, she got a two-count. Oh, now we’re back “live.” Wrist-lock by Beth. She showed off her power by picking Mickie up, but James countered by sitting on Beth’s shoulders. Slingshot suplex attempt, but Mickie (almost) landed on her feet, but didn’t get much offense in before the Glamazon took back over. Thesz Press by Mickie, and this match is breaking down. I can’t believe how ugly it’s been. Alabama Slam by Beth for the win.

Winner: Beth, at 3:28. Hugely disappointing.

-Jamie Noble was talking to Layla backstage. He called Layla his lucky charm and he’s facing William Regal in a tie-breaker, since they’ve each won one against each other. Layla said she was surprised by Jamie but he said that’s who he is. Noble said that wasn’t a surprise.....this is. Then Jillian Hall started singing “Layla,” by Eric Clapton. Noble got mad and told Jillian to leave and that she owes him his five dollars back. Noble promised Layla a trip to the Olive Garden if he won.

[Break]

(2) Jamie Noble vs. William Regal
Regal started off hot, but Noble got a headscissors. Regal got pissed and started pummeling Noble on the mat. Arm-bar took Noble down to his knees. Noble attempted a sunset flip, but Regal brought his leg down across Noble’s throat. That was certainly unique. Crowd started getting behind Noble as Regal had him in a headlock. Dropkick off the second rope by Noble for two. Enziguiri, then Noble tried his flip in the corner and Regal got his knees up. Running knee to the head by Regal and that does it.

Winner: Regal, at 2:49.

Regal got on the mic and asked Noble what he expected. He said happy endings only happy in fairy tales. He stared at Layla seated at ringside, then offered her his arm. She took it and they walked to the back arm-in-arm. Layla still seemed a bit concerned about Noble. Just before they went behind the curtain, Layla paused to take one look back out at the ring.

-Tonight, Chris Jericho takes on Batista.

-Also, Rey Mysterio teams up with Evan Bourne to take on Morrison & The Miz.

[Break]

(3) John Bradshaw Layfield vs. Charles Haas Layfield
Lillian announced “and his opponent....” then you heard, “Hey help me, I’m in the trunk, get me outta here” over the sounds system. The limo driver opened the trunk, and it was Charlie Haas dressed as JBL. He had the mic and said he’s a rich Texas blowhard and kept plugging Mamajuana. It was pretty good. JBL took the mic from Lillian, and the crowd started a “CHL, CHL” chant. Are you serious? JBL got in Haas’ face for mocking him. JBL was yelling at Haas and Haas kept holding up the Mamajuana and smiling. JBL said he deserved better than this and that Haas should respect him. More “CHL” chants. Before they even locked up JBL walked out on the match.

Winner: CHL, at :45.

-Next is the tag match: Bourne & Mysterio vs. Morrison & Miz.

[Break]

-JBL was walking backstage and even the stage-hands couldn’t make eye contact with him. He walked up to Batista and Kelly Kelly, who tried to hold in their laughter. Kelly quickly left by Batista said it was funny. JBL said they may not like each other, but they’re main eventers and they’re both former champions. JBL said Batista knows how rude it is for Charlie Haas to mock him. Batista said he was right, they don’t have anything in common: Haas actually won his match tonight. Burn!

-The Grish was backstage with Rey Mysterio. He asked Rey why Kane brutalized him. Rey said he didn’t know why, but that Kane left him lying in a parking lot. Rey said he needed to take time off to rehab and said he vowed to never late what Kane did happen again. He then spoke a little Spanish and said Kane may claim that Rey was his victim, but he didn’t kill his spirit. Rey said he is nobody’s victim. Interesting, but still lacking in explanation.

-The Miz and John Morrison came out for their tag match. Someone forgot to tell Lillian they come out separately. The match is next.

[Break]

(4) The Miz & John Morrison vs. Evan Bourne & Rey Mysterio
They showed Adamle, Teddy Long and Tiffany watching with interest backstage. Cole said Bourne was a marketing vice-president before he came to WWE. Rey and Bourne worked Morrison’s arm. Morrison came back with a face-plant and a double-knee to the gut (with Miz). Miz tried to pick Rey up but Rey sat down on his face. Bourne came in with some knee-to-the-shoulders move off the top rope. Rey tossed Morrison out of the ring and Bourne catapulted off Rey and hit Morrison with a hurricanrana. Bourne went to the top to finish off Miz, but Morrison nailed him and knocked him off. Bourne came back with a backslide for two. He was able to make the tag to Rey, who cleaned house on both heels. Hard kick to the back of the head of Morrison, but he kicked out at two. Rey rana’d Morrison into 619 position, but Miz tripped him. Bourne took care of him and Morrison hit Rey with a knee but Bourne broke up the pin. Miz took out Bourne. Morrison missed a kick and hit Miz, allowing Rey to nail the 619. He then tagged in Bourne for the Shooting Star Press and the pin.

Winners: Rey & Bourne, at 6:21. I’m not used to seeing this kind of athleticism on Raw.

Kane came on the TitanTron and said he’d face Rey next week. Then everyone will understand why Rey is a victim. Kane chose him, apparently. But we won’t find out why just yet. We get a hint though: And it’s Kane’s mask. An unmasking coming up?

-Chris Jericho takes on Batista later tonight.

-Randy Orton was walking backstage. We’ll hear from him next.

[Break]

-Randy Orton came to the ring. He talked about CM Punk not being worthy of being champion and talked of how he took him out last night. He even told Jericho he’d take the belt back when he was healthy. Cody Rhodes, Ted Dibiase and Manu came out. Rhodes took offense to Orton taking the credit for putting Punk on the shelf last night, and Manu even talked about his Hall-of-Fame father. Dibiase got the mic and started talking trash to Orton, but Orton slapped Teddy and quickly left the ring. They had a stare-down as Orton walked up the ramp. The tag champs are in action next.

[Break]

(5) Ted Dibiase & Cody Rhdoes & Manu vs. Cryme Tyme & Kofi Kingston
JTG gave a hard right hand to Rhodes, but Cody came back with a knee to the gut and tagged Teddy. Kofi came in and nailed Manu, but Dibiase pushed him out of the ring and Manu had his way with him. Did they have to dress him just like Umaga? Diving headbutt by Umaga, I mean Manu. Dibiase came off the top with a double-stomp to the gut. Kofi missed a cross-body on Cody. Roll-up by Kingston for two, then he and Rhodes double-clotheslined each other. Both men made tags and Shad hit a big boot on Dibiase. He took out Manu, then press-slammed the youngest Rhodes. He threw his partner into a crossbody on Cody and over the top they went. Manu tagged himself in and hit a side-slam into a neckbreaker for the win.

Winners: Dibiase, Rhodes & Manu at 4:03. Pretty decent match.

-Still to come, Y2J takes on Batista.

[Break]

-WWE Classics on Demand: 1983, Starrcade, Ric Flair, Harley Race, Steel Cage.

(6) Santino Marella vs. Snitsky
Santino presented us with the Honk-A-Meter. He’s up to three weeks! Only 61 weeks to go. He noted The Mountie only had his title for two days, and he’s already beaten that by 19. So put that in your blog, Perez Hilton!

Snitsky with a hard take-down. Beth distracted Snitsky, but Marella failed to take advantage. The big man missed a big boot in the corner and Santino rolled him up for three.

Winner: Marella, at :49.

Glamarella made out after the match.

-Mike Adamle was talking to Kelly Kelly, explaining the decisions he made last night. Kelly said she felt bad for Punk, but it’s OK because he’ll be back next week. Jericho walked in and told Kelly “Excuse us.” Jericho said he wasn’t ready for the match tonight mentally or physically. Adamle said he did Jericho a favor last night and now he needs Jericho to do him a favor, he needs some reciprocity (and he said it without stumbling!). It’s going to happen next. One of Mike’s smoothest segments to date. Jericho brings out the best in everyone!

[Break]

-Next week, it’s Rey Mysterio vs. Kane and Chris Jericho vs. Batista in a Steel Cage Match.

(7) Chris Jericho vs. Batista
Batista was the aggressor (big surprise), lowering his shoulder into Jericho in the corner. Powerslam by Batista. Jericho took a break on the outside. Mike Adamle came out and told them to stop the match. Adamle said he made a mistake, and in his haste, wanted to make a good match. He said he underestimated Jericho’s injuries and wants a fair match. He then said it would be 2-on-1, Jericho & JBL vs. Batista.

Winner: No Contest, no bell, about 1:20.

[Break]

(8) Chris Jericho & JBL vs. Batista
Match was joined in progress, as JBL had Batista in a sleeper. Lance Cade was also sitting at ringside. Jericho tagged in and started kicking away at Batista’s ribs. Jericho tried to slug it out, and that went about as well as you’d expect. Jericho tagged out just in time and JBL came in. While the ref’s back was turned, Jericho started choking Batista. Swinging neckbreaker by JBL got two. Jericho tagged back in when Batista was down. He started slapping The Animal, another bad move. Batista came back with one of his own, then took out JBL. He set up for the Batista Bomb, but Cade got on the apron. Batista handily took care of him, then JBL hit the clothesline from hell. Jericho went for the pin and got it.

Winners: JBL & Jericho, 2:59 shown.

Lance Cade came in to the ring and held Batista while JBL treated him like a punching bag. “Who you laughing at now?” JBL shouted at Dave. He told Cade to get Batista up and “shoot him off,” so Cade and JBL threw him into the ropes. Batista hit a double shoulder-block, then Batista Bombed Cade. JBL escaped further punishment. Batista stared down Jericho, who was on the ramp with the title.

Rey/Bourne vs. Miz/Morrison was a lot of fun, I was sorry to see it end. I wanted more.

I loved the CHL chant during the Haas/JBL segment. Come to think of it, I really like Haas's character right now, though I loved his entire "Lucha mask" thing he had going.

Awkward end to the Priceless/Orton segment. He'll probably end up as their leader or something to that effect.

Did CM Punk piss someone off to get treated like this? Wow.

Kelly Kelly loves to chat.

Working with Bourne really inspired Rey. For a six minute match that was terrific. It was the kind of match you could really only see on Nitro.

Orton and Jericho are really good.

Good show. Loved the Rey/ECW tag match and "CHL".

The slow build on Orton and the Kids is grand.

If they're going to add the "LIVE" next to the Scratch Logo, they need to dump the worthless "WWEHD" bug in the upper left. It was absent in the first segment, and I figured they'd gotten rid of it. No such luck.

They can get rid of Candice Michelle, too.

Regal wins the Whore! Regal wins the Whore!
Considering they never did a World Title Match between Jericho and Punk, why skip over that to get to the Steel Cage Match?
They should have let Haas pull a Mike Davis from Florida in '84, when he thought he was Dusty Rhodes and actually won matches, and let Haas be Cena during his time off. Haas steadily builds confidence, works his way up the card, then gets destroyed by Cena when he returns. Keeps Cena in the fans eye during the absense and gives him an easy landing spot on his return, rather than rushing him back to the main event.

JBL has lost a lot of weight quickly. He almost looks ill.

Jericho had to vamp a lot out there before Adamle showed up.

Manu's finisher is right nice.

Chris Jericho is my god. I love how he presses the big gold belt to his cheek almost as much as when Santino makes out with the Intercontinental belt. I'm really looking forward to seeing how he holds onto that World Title against Punk in the steel cage. I'm sure it will be... Priceless.

I'm loving the slow burn on this pending faction between Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase, Cody Rhodes and Manu. I don't think I've ever seen a unit come together by one guy bitch slapping the others. Bitch slapping must be some second/third generation son-of-wrestler bonding thing. I also like this faction looks to be composed of three young, ripped, crew-cutted, white guys and a fat Samoan.

Priceless and Manu squashed Cryme Tyme and Kofi Kingston too. Squashed them like bugs. Without the other C, CT isn't much of a threat.

A joke I forgot to make in my Unforgiven remarks was when the Priceless bunch was beating on CM Punk and Kofi, it would have been a perfect time to play Kofi's music: SOS!

Speaking of Kofi, his star seems to have dimmed a bit. He'd better watch out. Evan Bourne might be ready to take his spot on RAW.

Candice was seriously creeping me out with her smiling and giggling to herself during the Women's Title match. It was even more disturbing than Michelle McCool's perpetual Joker smile.

Kelly Kelly feels really bad for CM Punk. She must remember the couple of weeks she had a huge crush on him in between dumping Mike Knox and falling for Balls.

Of course William Regal won Layla at the end. They're both English and they were both wearing blank tank tops with gold trim designs.

Rey Mysterio promos are the opposite of money. I think Kane's threatening to turn Rey into Lil' Kane. He wants a Mini-Me.

There can never be enough Glamarella for me. My dream match is Glamarella vs. the returning Honky Donkey Man and Peggy Sue.

Santino is now 20 times better than the Mountie! And counting!

No kidding huh! Even undid the chinstrap (THE CHINSTRAP~!) and you could hear the sole person cheering/awake at the end of it.

Also: I've got a bad feeling that their going to stick with CHL forever given the reception. Haas needs to continue the gimmick infringment schtick, possibly combining it with the 24/7 clip to get him to do Flair, Hogan, Piper, HBK, and Savage (oops, maybe not Savage.)

I'm glad the main event got changed. I was worried that Batista would end Jericho's title reign after one day, which would make the Mountie two times better than Jericho and Santino 38 times better.

Jericho/Punk in a cage and Rey/Kane next week? Shouldn't this be their PPV lineup?

I like the slow build with Orton and the others too. They could have easily just said "hey let's join" "okay!" but instead they are going to make an actual interesting build up.

I thought Rey's promo last night was the best of his career. It's a good thing too because from what I've seen Bourne is even worse on the mic. That shooting star press is beautiful though.

Just like the Jericho promo, it felt like he was expecting much shorter airtime. Maybe he blanked before moving to Spanish, but he sure looked to have frozen for the traditional camera fadeout.

Like him or not, and I don't, Punk deserves the next PPV title shot, but it seems like it will be Batista instead. Why not save that until Survivor Series, a so called "Big Four" PPV? Oh well, as long as Jericho is champ, I won't complain too much.

And more Bourne, please.

It does? I got the impression that the next PPV would have Batista versus JBL.

Am I reading too much into Cole's comments re: Haas? He said something like "where is he going with all of this?" Wow, you mean they might actually have a PLAN, unlike when The Big Show did impressions? Nice!

Good RAW tonight. Nothing mind-blowing, but nothing terrible either.

I enjoyed Jerichos promo, not as much as his recent stuff with HBK, but still very good. He deserves the title.

I am starting to find Adamle really annoying, and not in a good way.

Poor Mickie. Shoved to the side for Candice. And John, you weren't alone. Candice giggling and laughing was strange, but she did look damn good at least. I like the black hair on her.

The Charlie Haas Layfield bit was a pleasant suprise. I was sure we were going to get the standard JBL jobber beatdown after a PPV loss.

I would not mind seeing the Bourne/Rey tag team continue. It could help revitalize the division. That match was 31 flavors of awesome.

Love the slow build on the next-gen faction. Nice to see them call out Randy like that. It could be a very good stable. I see a survivors match with them vs. Punk, Kofi and Cryme Tyme.

Santino is indeed 19 times better than Honky.

Is anyone else tired of Batista coming back from 2 on 1 beatdowns and making heels look like shit? I'm so tired of his act.

I'm pumped for the cage match next week, even though I know who will walk out with the title.

Watching this in H.D. man that "LIVE" logo in the middle of my screen was annoying. Mickie looked tired in her match. Other than that it was a good show I thought. I look forward to watching how long Jericho can hold the Title before the "GLASS CEILING" rips it back.

"What is going on in Candice Michelle's head?" I wondered as I watched that match.

I'm still pissed that Punker was barely a part of the PPV and lost his title (even if it was to Jericho). He'll be out of the title hunt for a while dealing with Priceless and Orton, which is cool. Builds his main event feud with Orton as he fights......whatever this sons of former wrestlers stable is supposed to be called as well as his main event credibility.

I am really digging Hass and Santino being the few comedy wrestlers in the WWE, and doing it so well.

Jesus Christ! Bourne and Mysterio gave me a flashback to WCW Thunder. I felt like I was a teen again seeing the awesomeness of a good cruiserweight tag match.

Manu is to Umaga as Smart Hulk is to The Hulk.

They have to keep this Haas-identity theft gimmick going until their next Canadian swing. Bret Hart's music starts playing, everyone loses their mind, and then out comes the Haasman.

“How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person I’m portraying. You’re confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says ‘I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard,’ and I said ‘You are aware that I am not really a wizard?’ and Peter Jackson said ‘I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show.’ So I said ‘Okay’ and then I said to myself ‘Mmm.. How do I do that?’ And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras

Well, I thought they were leading up to JBL/Batista too, but then he made the comeback and kicked the crap out of JBL and Cade like they were jobbers, so I wasn't sure. Plus Punk gets his shot next week, why wouldn't they wait until the PPV? The show ended with Dave staring down Jericho, so who knows?

And CruelAngel777, you cracked me up with the Hulk/Manu analogy.
