Got to interview former Royals Manager Charlie Metro a few weeks back, he was one of the Cubs' "college of coaches", but more importantly he was behind many of the Royals' early player moves that got them into contention quickly. The Amos Otis/Mets trade for example. Very interesting man.

Danny Tartabull over Bo Jackson? I know Bo only got to play for a couple of years but the man was a beast. If he was playing today he would belt 60 a year with 150 RBI's. Bo Knows All Time Greatest Royals.

Yeah but he pithced there longer than Sabes. Saberhagen won two Cy's with the Royals. If not for injuries, Sabes would be a HOF'er. Splittorf *WAS* good though. Howzabout a Lefty and Righty starting pitcher?
My name is Sue! How do you do?? Now you gonna die!!
I have been a Royals fan since their inception in 1969 and I gotta say Eddie has it pretty much right. There isn't much to argue about except maybe at catcher. You could make a case for either Mike Macfarlane or John Wathan based on more plate appearances. Macfarlane is 9th alltime in homers and RBI, while Wathan stole 105 bases in his Royals' career. That having been said, I think I would still lean toward Porter. The only slightly arguable point is the one previously discussed abot starting pitcher. I would also stick with Eddie here and say that Paul Splittorff did the job for many years.
Thanks a lot Eddie!
He's Rolie Polie Olie - and in his world of curves and curls, he's the swellest kid around.
A shame Mike Sweeney didn't stay put at catcher, because in about 3 or 4 years we wouldn't even have to argue about who the greatest catcher in KC history was.

Cool, pieman. My interview with Charlie Metro was waaaaay too short. I would have loved to get into the College of Coaches thing more, the Brock trade, and the inception of the Royals. We did get into his PCL days, and war year baseball, but I only had 20 minutes :(

Thank you Baby Jesus, Bill Bavasi is no more in Seattle. One of the most expensive and crappiest built teams in baseball can now move on from a long list of terrible signings and trades.
