The rumour mill is swirling over a potential return to the UFC by Randy Couture. The latest news has him signing a three-fight deal that would encompass bouts against the winner of the Noguiera/Mir HW title match, Fedor (!...but only if they can get him signed) and first off, a fight against Brock Lesnar in November in Portland.

A Brock/Randy bout would be huge business, but there also stands a very good change that Couture loses, which might throw the rest of the plans into disarray.

“How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person I’m portraying. You’re confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says ‘I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard,’ and I said ‘You are aware that I am not really a wizard?’ and Peter Jackson said ‘I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show.’ So I said ‘Okay’ and then I said to myself ‘Mmm.. How do I do that?’ And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras

Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard! Good luck to those down south.

Dang. I'd watch those fights. A little star power never hurt anybody.

It's kind of amazing that Dana keeps blaming everyone else for Couture/Fedor not happening, and then mentions he won't ever sign Fedor to a one-fight deal, which would obviously get it done in a second. That guy reminds me more and more of Don King every day.

UFC makes more money by not having Fedor fight than by having Fedor fight once, win, and make lots of money with Affliction (or whoever). It is absolutely the right strategy.

It is the policy of the documentary crew to remain true observers and not interfere with its subjects.

Sure, I'll buy that. But then Dana should stop his bitching and change his story to "the deal isn't getting done because we won't make the most money we can" instead of "Fedor's agent keeps sinking the fight."

How in the world is it in the UFC's interest to sign Fedor to a one-fight deal, have him come in and beat their champ (or if Randy loses the belt, still a top-ranked fighter) and then he just leaves back to Affliction or Japan? Dana is making the right business decision here in avoiding signing a guy whose management a) doesn't want an exclusive deal, b) wants to keep Fedor available for sambo tournaments and New Year's Eve fights in Japan and c) wants Fedor to be the highest-paid fighter in the company.
