Meltzer and Scherer are still using this as "members-only" news but here's the gist of it I pulled from lordsofpain.net.

"According to a number of independent promoters, they were told today by representatives of Ric Flair that he has decided to part ways with World Wrestling Entertainment and that he is now available to take independent bookings.

The split is said to be an amicable parting of the ways related to the company not allowing him to take outside offers he wanted to accept. Over the past few months, Flair has been forced to back out of a number of previously scheduled outside bookings because WWE didn't approve of them."

I hope this means that Ric Flair can get the timeless retirement match that he deserves.

In a six-sided ring.

It makes sense, as the DVD has been out a few weeks and the company has squeezed every last penny they could out of the Flair Farewell. Being in the ring is a drug for Ric, so you knew it wasn't over. Honestly, the day Flair dies he will be scheduled for a match or will have just concluded a match. That might be 20 years from now, but Flair, as long as he's not physicaly incapacitated, won't give up the rush. I'd guess this would probably be more along the lines of the Legend Contracts that the Duggan's of the world get rather than allowing Flair the opportunity to go to Orlando.

One has to wonder how long he can keep dodging serious injury. I'm more impressed that the WWE didn't bend again and give him a 'few' more matches.

The news bit doesn't mention Flair as wanting to do matches. I remember a few months back ROH wanted to book Flair to do a special appearance to sign auto's at their NYC show, with the idea being if he could come, they would also fly in Kenta Kobashi to have a mega-smark dream signing session. But WWE said Flair could only appear at fan conventions not affiliated with other wrestling promotions.

Maybe I'm naive, but I honestly would be surprised to see Flair in a ring again as a regular competitor. Of course having said that it'll probably be him vs. Danielson at the next ROH show :)

Something tells me TNA is on the phone to try and cash in on one more Sting vs. Flair match.

Good for him. This will allow him to do what he wants without Vince McMahon breathing down his neck. I've heard he was upset about not being able to appear at the NWA show recently. Now he doesn't have to worry about it.

I had just bent down to tighten my nuts, and there was a double yellow line, see? And next thing I knew, there was policeman behind me. He put a sticker on my helmet and tried to clamp me.

It's about damn time. I couldn't believe that the 'E put the kibosh on him attending the NWA HoF ceremony...I mean, he was BORN in the NWA, no less. I could understand if it had something to do with TNA, since they're competition, but the NWA? Come on, now.

I would KILL to see Flair vs. Sting, one...last...time. It would be really, really odd to see him in a six sided ring, though.

Ok how many retirement matches has Flair been in that he lost?

And you guys want him to have one more match? Kind of defeats the purpose of his WM match now doesnt it?

Yeah I know it was a "Lose or your fired" match but still, he had the send off like he was actually hanging up his robe.

Read it and weep, fella

Something tells me this has more to do with getting bigger payoffs outside the WWE umbrella (if they wont let him wrestle regularly, that is) than anything else.

Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard! Good luck to those down south.

I suppose I can only dream of Flair vs. Brent Albright for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship...

...right?

And now according to Powell (prowrestling.net) Flair's wife has filed for divorce.

I love Flair as a performer and all that, but this guy just can't seem to keep his house in order at all.

Yeah, but relatively speaking just the fact that he is 60 years old and alive puts him near the head of that class in the wrestling industry.

Only if Albright goes over by submission and Flair does a stretcher job!

Let us all wait for the Flair vs. Hogan 'We Have to Pay Alimony and the Lawyers' Indy Tour. I can see getting married after the first time, sometimes it doesn't work. However, after 2 divorces and problems with the IRS, why put yourself in a position to go through hell again?
