Internet Message Boards often times suck. I stopped reading them largely because I felt embarrassed that some people who call themselves real wrestling fans often times use excessive profanity, take the low road, hide behind phony names to make smart ass remarks and nothing any one can write is ever good enough. Like I have said, if people dont enjoy reading our blogs, then dont read them. How simple is that?

It's a little more than halfway down. He doesn't look like the type that would frequent message boards, but then again he doesn't look like the type that would use smiley faces in his blogs (as he did halfway up the link I posted). I wonder which board he goes to, he sounds like a wrestlecrap guy....

Yeah, hiding behind phony names sucks. People should use their full given names, like Hunter Hearst Helmsley or Mr. Under Taker.

An alias is just an alias. Not everyone wants to use their real name. Is that the best he can do? There are so many more, real targets to rail on - picking out that one seems silly.

It's easy enough to figure out my real name. That doesn't mean that I'm not full of shit.

With all due respect, you're picking out the most trivial point he made about message boards and saying that's his main gripe, when it's not. The rest of his opinion, in my view, is completely valid in MANY cases...even on this board.

This is all serious business.

Does JR know Alvarez added a moderated board?

(I would presume JR's actually more of a wrestlingclassics.com guy. But who knows.)

This is no more or less true than any other internet fandom. If you can't develop a mental filter to weed out the heapings of crap - which is pretty hard when it's directed at you - you are better off doing something else with your time.

This site is far FAR better than most other internet forums I frequent.

This site contains people who actually want to talk about the product in question in at least a semi-serious (considering the topic) nature. They have at least a baseline respect for the product, it's history, the people who run it, and each other.

JR should visit any site dedicated to, say, an internet MMO, to get a better perspective.

Can I point out that he didn't even say anything about Wrestling message boards or the IWC in the actual article? He was talking about the Nebraska/Texas news item from last week.

Although this thread does go a long way to proving his point that message boards take his words out of context.

I posted that note earlier, but then deleted it because it really had nothing to do with wrestling.

Anyway reading J.R.'s blogs these last couple of makes me wonder if the WWE was sending him(J.R.) a message by sending him down to Smackdown.

Salient points about online courtesy aside, isn't it likely JR suffers from a generation gap? Would he be able to grasp and work within the shorthand communication and humor of the online folk? Would he get the lingo and tone?

It's JR, the genial granddad of the WWE. What else is he gonna say?

And does it prove his point about me if I point out he encouraged unhappy people from avoiding their blogs, but not their shows?

I bet JR has seen a fair share of message boards posts making fun of his accent or weight or Bell's Palsy.

Now, now. I wasn't generalizing. I was only speaking to that one point.

That's a good point, now that you mention it.

Being in my 30s, and in my 14th year of using the internet, I can exist in today's message boards. I understand them. I can respond in kind. But for the most part I don't really like them.

I can't imagine how JR, from a generation that likely still has 12:00 flashing on the VCRs, views what is the "normal" mode of communication with today's internet generation.

That's scary. I will be closing in on year 20 on the Net soon (and what has it really gotten me).

The Snarkiness/Deadspinization of boards seems to have gotten worse in the last 3 or 4 years, but I know that things were not perfect in the usenet days.

The likelihood that he actually writes his blogs is about what? 25-75?

These are the same arguments people in the mainstream sports media are making about sports blogs. All he needed to add was a joke about people writing from their mom's basement, and it would have been the same comments I've seen people make several different times.

I just viewed his(J.R'S) restaurant menu. Surprisingly it seems fairly priced(Other than the $8.99 Nachos) to bring a family for supper. Has anyone ever eaten at one of his restaurants?

I think a lot of people here aren't familiar with who exactly came out of Tough Enough. There were six winners, and Maven was the only one with any credible wrestling push until Nitro came back for his current run. TE I Winner: Maven.
