Up to £1.37/litre (approx $9.40 per US Gallon) up the road from me.
With impeccable timing tanker drivers are striking over pay (news.bbc.co.uk) which is causing a run on petrol and already leading to shortages in some more hickish parts of the country.
The poor loves only get about £30,000 ($60,000) a year for driving around. The humanity!

The radio report I heard last week said they're still getting paid exactly what they were getting in 1992. Sounds kinda questionable, now that I [type] it out loud. Is that true?

If you believe the union, but both they and the employers are as guilty as each other for spinning BS on either side right now.
And heck if they *were* getting £32k a year in '92 that's fricking ridiculous money.
Their main argument right now seems to be Shell's profits went up, so their pay should go up by a similar amount. Which would be a dubious argument even if they were employed by Shell.
To be honest it's more the timing that annoys me than anything else. They're piggy backing onto the truckers strike because they know those guys have got decent public support. Support on a completely different issue (excessive fuel prices/tax), but the public are morons, and a high percentage actually think they're all protesting about the same thing.
But by striking now they harm supply, and drive up fuel prices even further. All of which is veering toward the political and away from the "how much is gas?" I guess
Up to a quite mind boggling £1.99 a litre (£9 a gallon) now!
A place in my town, just southeast of Raleigh, has gas for $3.69. That is pretty amazing, given that it was over $4 2 weeks ago.
Also, it still unsettles me that I actually use the word "amazing" to describe $3.69/gallon for gas, when less than a year ago it was more than a dollar less.
I just thought of this thread this morning. After being around $4.30 across the board here we've dropped a bit. Most every station I passed this morning was in the $4.19-ish area, and the one on the corner of Pioneer and River Rd. was down to $3.99 (!).
Holy fuck shit motherfucker shit. Read comics. Fuck shit shit fuck shit I sold out when I did my job. Fuck fuck fuck shit fuck. Sorry had to do it....

I filled up on Wednesday for $3.85/gal. The NEXT F'N EXIT had gas for $3.73. GRRRR.
