Shawn Chacon, recently demoted to the bullpen, got rather pissed yesterday at Houston GM Ed Wade (chron.com) and has been suspended indefinitely. Something tells me that the tangible trade value of Chacon may now be....considerably less.

A former Yankee pitcher with temper issues? Just send him back to the Yankees like Sidney Ponson and then have Michael Kay talk about how misunderstood he is and that being around Derek Jeter will turn his career and life around.
Yes, because being formerly employed by somebody is the reason they have issues. Not Colorado or Pittsburg who employed him, right? Fucking redsox fans are becoming such a collection of douches lately.

Just like Manny Ramirez is misunderstood, right? The rest of us just don't understand Manny being Manny. ;-)

Ed Wade = horrible GM.
Yeah, just like they're still cheering wife beater and overall jackass Brett Myers. I don't care how bad a GM Wade is, there's no excuse for what Chacon did. Wade tried to keep the matter private by asking him to the office and Chacon just had to be a big enough dick to make him tell the news out in front of everyone. Now he's worried if he'll have a job in the majors anytime soon. I say with his own admission and the amount of people who saw him assault Wade, he should be worried about having charges pressed against him.

Originally posted by NY TimesDerek Jeter said he would vouch for Shawn Chacon’s character if the Yankees considered bringing back Chacon after his release by the Houston Astros on Thursday. The move came a day after Chacon admitted to The Houston Chronicle that he had grabbed General Manager Ed Wade by the neck and thrown him to the ground in an argument.
“Chac’s a friend of mine,” Jeter said. “I see Chac in the off-season. I wouldn’t have a problem with him. I think people need to find out all the details. Yeah, it doesn’t look good, doesn’t sound good, but I don’t know what happened. I can’t picture it happening, knowing him like I know him.”
I like the sound of this move as much as I like the thought of Ponson back. Can we summon the rotting corpse of Steve Howe also?
Jeter usually knows what's right for his team and he has my respect for how he captains it. But I can't agree with him on this. Forgot the character issues, he's really medicore as a pitcher. Besides, the Yanks may have some problems with starting pitching, but I'm sure it's a lot worse for most other teams right now. They can survive with Petitte, Mussina, and Joba. What they can't survive with is having Farnsworth giving up a home run every other game in relief.

Still cheering? You must be watching different Phillies games than I've been, because the ones I've seen involved him getting booed out of the park as he continues to stink up the joint.
NEW YORK -- The players' association filed a grievance Tuesday over the release of pitcher Shawn Chacon, saying the team's decision to terminate his contract was without just cause.
Chacon cleared waivers and was released Monday, five days after a physical altercation with general manager Ed Wade in the clubhouse.
Chacon had a $2 million salary this year, and the decision to terminate the contract meant $983,607 won't be paid. He also lost the chance to make up to $1 million in performance bonuses based on innings.
"The grievance alleges that he was unlawfully terminated and asked that he be made whole," said Michael Weiner, the union's general counsel.
Umm...he SHOVED THE GENERAL MANAGER and started wailing on him! I don't know what world these guys are living in, but if I throw my boss to the ground, I know I'M not getting paid.
There's a hole in his heart where the Astros used to be. So sad.
I think the MLBPA is fighting this not with the idea they might win (though a settlement would be cause for a party), but to make sure the conditions for voiding someone's contract are so narrow to be virtually non-existent. If they can get a judge to say "voiding a contract is okay ONLY if there's some physical violence", it saves the players from worrying about losing a deal if they just vocally disagree with a person in management. If Chacon is going to see a precedent, they want to make it as insignificant as possible.

Agreed, but the MLBPA always does this. It doesn't matter what caused the player to be released, the players association will always try to appeal and get the players money back if they think they have even a tiny chance of winning. That's why they went after the Rockies a couple of years ago for releasing Danny Neagle, even though he got caught red-handed for solicitating a hooker.
... Yeah, that 2.36 ERA in L.A. really stands out when you look at his splits over the last three seasons -- you find out that the L.A. numbers are all from 2001, Park's last good year. In 2000, his Dodger Stadium ERA was 2.34. In 1998, it was 2.75....
