Okay, so I just got around to hooking up my Media Center to the cable and have been tinkering around, recording some shows and like it.
Now, other than just watching/recording tv, what can/should I be using the media center for? What can it do? I've been looking around and see add ons, but do not know what they are for/what I will gain from them.
Thinking of Media Edition...I'm wondering if there's a way to upgrade a Windows XP Pro install to an MCE install. Would I have to backup my entire computer and buy the OS outright or is there another way to do it?
I'm pretty sure you can install MCE as an upgrade to XP Pro, but I don't think you can just buy a copy of MCE. I think it's only sold with a PC, though you can get it if you have a Technet subscription. Looks like ebay might be an option as well.
I should also add that it comes with at least some versions of Vista so it could be similar cost wise to just upgrade to Vista while you're at it.
Apparently it's Vista Home Premium and Vista Home Ultimate. I just bought a new computer yesterday and I didn't even realize it had Media Center on it until you mentioned it.

Ah, to hell with Vista. My laptop came preinstalled with it, and with that, about half the HD space was taken by it.
Go to http://crucial.com and use one of their tools to figure out what you can put in and which configurations your system supports. You might want to buy the RAM from them too - good RAM, good prices, good support.
