I forgot we didn't have an automatic this week, so you get nothing and like it!

In retrospect, we should have figured out the significance of the $16 prize, but who expects ANYTHING on this show to have been thought out seven days in advance? Yuk yuk yuk.

At least this week the callers seemed genuinely excited to be getting free money!

How many phone numbers did Vince unwittingly flash on screen, anyway? I saw at least two and bet there were others. (I did NOT call anyone asking for an interview or a loan.)

Let's look up the prizes for next week...

$300K
$150K
$125K
$105K
$100K
$75K
$70K
$35K
$25K
$9,999
$5K
$1

With three hours, they have to sneak in another four prizes so there's some chicken scratch amongst the REAL scratch.

Those numbers on the cards that Vince was accidently flashing on TV were so easy to see, I was able to make it out a good 10 sec. after he first showed it. And I'm terrible at picking up on those kinds of things. That poor guy from Jersey is going to have a lot of 'friends' calling him the next couple of days. It's still painful to watch at times, but at others it can be really be funny in a comically bad sort of way (along with the exposed numbers, I cracked at Hacksaw Jim Duggan dressed up to look like he was going to grind pepper onto a salad with the 2x4).

Other thoughts:

-Umanga jobbing is becoming way too perdictble at this point. I just couldn't get into the match between him and Cena, it just felt like I saw the finish coming a mile away.

- The diva swimsuit contest was totally pointless, but fun to watch. Personally, I can't complain about any of the divas; they were all smoking hot (yes, even Jillian was yummy to look at without disrobing). Layla was the best looking, IMO, but Eve is my new favorite diva for slapping Maria's ass for winning not once, but TWICE!

Hardy/ Carlito was a good match to watch, though it seemed at times like they had communication problems. Still, they should wrestle together more often, Jeff always seems to get the best out of Carlito.

Jericho's promo on HBK was really good... until Flair and Trips got involved. Why did Flair have to act like a senile lunatic? He could had simply and calmly pointed out to Jericho that HBK was only doing what he himself would do to win the match and that because of that, they're both HOF'ers and Jericho will never be. Jericho then jumps Flair like he did Michaels last week and becomes a bigger heel as a result. It can't be that hard to think up better ways to promote the feud than they did tonight, can't it?

-WTF was the point of the tag match? If that's the best they're going to do with Cryme Tyme, then they shouldn't have brothered bringing them back.

- The mixed tag match was ok, nothing really memorable about it. I do like Burchill's new name for his finisher 'Twisted Sister'.

- Jericho/ HHH was another decent, but not exicting match. The ending was really confusing though; what's with Cade helping out Jericho? I like Cade, but I don't see how it makes sense to have him involved with Jericho. I guess it's going to lead up to a tag main event next week wih HHH/Cena teaming up.

Charlie Haas IS Dane Cook

How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person Im portraying. Youre confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard, and I said You are aware that I am not really a wizard? and Peter Jackson said I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show. So I said Okay and then I said to myself Mmm.. How do I do that? And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras

I don't want to jump too far ahead of this one, but the easiest story to tell is the "Cade as Shawn's former student/Jericho's new apprentice" one. I think it's pretty clear Shawn's been itching to work a program with Lance, since Cade/Murdoch wrestled DX about 1 billion times last year. But honestly, who knows?

I was thnking about that, but I don't know. The problem is that I'm pretty sure no one in the RAW audience outside the IWC really knows about the relationship between HBK & Cade. It isn't teaming with Jericho that gets me as much as it is the main event. Upon further review,I don't think I wrote the question as clearly as I first thought. Why would the RAW writers put Cade, a talented wrestler but a mid-card one at best who just started singles wrestling, into the main event with three former world champions without any buildup and/or backstory? If anything, I would had thought he would have a feud similar to Kennedy/ Burchill for a while to make sure he's good to go as a singles wrestler before he gets shoved into the upper card.

They could fix that with one promo though. Example:

CADE: Shawn Michaels, even though you gave me my start in this business, I hate you!

Or:

HBK: Lance Cade, just as easily as the Showstopper put you into this world, I can take you out!

Or some sort of combination of both!

Cuz they gotta do it with *someone*. Might as well do it with someone with the connections that might let his push survive long enough to get over.

Sigh. At least it was against a top-tier wrestler in support of the PPV main event, but it still makes me sad.

Thank god Triple H was behind that door, because without that they would have had no main event. Of course, it was a main event that I didn't care about, regardless of how "fresh" it is now.

Interesting, I didn't realize that Cade was trained by Shawn Michaels. Honestly I assumed they were just going to go with "Cade wanted to make a name for himself by interfering in the main event."

Various news sources are now reporting that this contest isn't what it appears to be. Looks like the winners are being called before the show telling them to keep their phone lines clear. That would explain a few things.

1) That no one but the contest entrant answers the phone.

2) That they **ALWAYS** knew the password

3) Why suddenly, the callers were more excited this week.

4) And the 16 dollars.... no way it was just random that it was a "North Carolina" winner. And the other "North Carolina" mentioning Ric Flair's name...

5) That this week, they had up the names of the people on the phone almost instantly.

6) I bet a dime that one answering machine call was staged.

I'm not saying the contest was rigged, but if you aren't called before the show, you're not going to win.

Maybe Jericho can recruit more of HBK's former students. Didn't he also train London and Spanky? So is Jericho defending the belt against Shawn at the PPV?

Why did Vince feel the need to have to humiliate each winner this week? Is that his solution to make the segments more interesting? For someone who was supposedly giving something back to the fans as a face, why go into heel mode now? The one girl who(I think)won the $175,000 was crying and truly happy. Vince trying to play heel ruined what would have been a nice moment.

I assumed they gave Cade the run-in to boost his profile before sending him to SmackDown with the draft. I cringed when he clotheslined Cena, because he looked to have bopped him hard in the nose.

Jericho looked surprisingly effective for a guy destined to lose by DQ. He broke the Pedigree twice and returned fire in the match's last minutes. He was toe-to-toe with Triple H, and I expected him to be buried as the weak heel. If JBL is nudged aside for now, Jericho has to become the top heel (until the draft, of course.)

Sigh...the WWE could have used a little bit of comedy in their Million Dollar gimmick. Lord knows, those breaks really slowed the show down. I mean, Hacksaw Jim Duggan showing up in a tux was pretty cool...but it would have been even cooler if he tried to dial his own number.

Same with Charlie Haas - after his segment with Mae Young, I would have laughed if Young were entered into the Swimsuit contest, and Haas officially declared her the winner. I know, it's going into Mark Henry territory, but still...everyone knew Maria was going to win it when she came out.

Cade/Jericho could be fun. Speaking of Jericho, his match with HHH was very good.

All in all...the million dollar giveaway is doing the exact opposite of what Vince McMahon probably hoped would happen. It's not inspiring hope in the product. These segments are BORING.

Entertaining Raw. And, who is this EVE? Good lord she's smoking hot!

And, has Paul Burchill morphed into the HHH when he ate all the pie physique in two weeks time, or is it just me?

EDIT:
OH, and with Vince telling Flair to call him in a few weeks, is that foreshadowing to a Flair GM role?

A Lance Cade push kind of feels like the Billy Gunn push we had to go through. Some people just belong in the tag division.

The money segments are ruining the show for me

They stated last week that the winners were called before the show and told to be ready just in case. That made me wonder why they were telling people they could enter online up until 1045pm; notice that they didn't do that this week.

One thing that I wonder about -- if the answering machine call was legit, was the person who then won the money the first backup, or did they move everyone up a step in line? If the latter, that woman who won $16 has to be pissed. She could have won a LOT more if that guy had just answered the phone!

I haven't checked out all the rules and regulations for the $1million contest as we can't even enter in the UK, but what are the rules exactly when it comes to under 18's winning.

There is no way a 15 year old like Denzel Parker ($125,000 winner) would be even allowed to enter in competitions like that over here, so I assume this contest doesn't strictly fall under the gambling laws.

At least the $1 and $16 winners would get to meet WWE people in person for their winnings.

So the parents get the money, with the idea they'll give it to the kid (but are not required too.)

The rules also say you may wait 8-10 weeks to get that money. Gotta be hard not to start spending it months before you actually get it.

I would also bet that the $300,000 and higher prizes are paid as an annuity, not as a lump sum. $10,000 for 30 years along those lines.....

They DID do this last week.

I have no inside knowledge of this particular contest, but in general the way it goes (usually) is just like jury duty: they pick all of the (eight? how ever many) names first, and then some alternates are picked and put on stand-by.

Because it's an online thing, you have to be 13 or older to be eligible. That's a, what, COPPA? Is that the acronym? That's a COPPA thing. This isn't gambling because nobody's paying to enter, strictly speaking. (One presumes that practically everyone is paying for access to the Internet in some way.)

Don't they have to make the calls during the hours stated in the official rules (which would be during the hours of the actual show)? Not necessarily on-the-air of course, but during those hours. It would seem to me that if they are really making the determination of winners before the show, that they are in violation of the law since the rules make no mention of needing to be available before the hours stated.
