Ron Paul plans his own convention

    By David Brown
    TRIBUNE-REVIEW
    Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Maverick GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul has booked an arena in Minneapolis for a "mini-convention" that could steal some of John McCain's thunder just days before he accepts the Republican nomination.

A Paul campaign aide said the Texas congressman hopes to pack about 11,000 supporters into the Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota on Sept. 2, which coincides with the second day of the Republican National Convention at the Xcel Energy Center in neighboring St. Paul.

Y'know, sooner or later they will probably wonder whether maybe they should have just let him have some speaking time.

Hell, I'll go!

Bought two more packs of baseball cards and once again, got a Ron Paul. It's a conspiracy.

Alright, but if I'm the party leadership, I'm starting to wonder if he's more trouble to us than he's worth. As a Representative, he's got to run a campaign every two years. He's already won the primary for 2008 (and has no Democratic competition), but they could easily look for a good candidate who will toe the party line to challenge him in 2010.

Given that he's most likely delivered personally more than 50% of the voters in his district (or something like that) I'd question whether anyone would want to oppose him. Or if they did if they'd stand a chance.

Anyway, why should the GOP pour money into a district they have locked up just to beat one of their own?

He wins the district, but I get the feeling that a lot of his supporters are independents who could very well vote Democratic or 3rd party for President. So they don't bring much to the greater party as a whole.

See, what I'd like to see is Bush win the popular vote, but Dean beat him in the electoral college. I'd love to sit around watching Faux News and listen to Rush (and visit this board)
