New shows in Fall: Fringe-drama from J.J. Abrams in which an FBI special agent is called in to investigate the mysterious deaths of everyone who traveled on Flight 627. Her only source is an instiutionalized genius, who leads her to discover a larger, more shocking truth. Do Not Disturb-an ensemble comedy that takes place in a hotel. Starring Jerry O'Connell, among others.
New shows in January: Dollhouse-drama from Joss Whedon, starring Eliza Dushku as a member of an underground group who have their personalities wiped clean so that they can be imprinted with a new persona whenever necessary. Something goes wrong and she starts to piece together her mysterious past. Secret Millionaire-an unscripted series in which millionaries are placed undercover in poor neighberhoods. The purpose is to find ordinary people who inspire dedication or relay stories of overcoming tremondous odds. The millionaire will then reveal his or her identity, give cash of at least $100K to their chosen recipients.
New shows in Spring: Sit Down, Shut Up-an animated series focusing on the lives of 8 staff members in a small-town high school. It has a huge list of well known voice talent, including Kenan Thompson (voicing a woman), Will Forte, Jason Bateman, Maria Bamford, Henry Winkler, Cheri Oteri, Nick Kroll (Best Week Ever), Will Arnett, and Tom Kenny (Spongebob Squarepants). From Mitchell Hurwitz, creator of Arrested Development. The Cleveland Show-a spin off of Family Guy, in which Cleveland Brown moves to Stoolbend, VA with his son to live with his highschool sweetheart Donna. His new family includes a flirtatious new stepdaughter, a 5-year old stepson who loves the ladies, and the requisite collection of neighbors: rednecks, British people, bears.
I can foresee a very uneasy relationship between Cleveland and that family of bears down the street. If Stephen Colbert has taught me anything, it's that there's no bigger threat to America than bears. I'm willing to give The Cleveland Show multiple chances, considering that American Dad was so awful in the beginning before finding its stride to the point that I actually look forward to it more than I do Family Guy.
And speaking of Family Guy, I think the show jumps the shark without Cleveland. Unless Cleveland's old role is filled by James Woods or the Giant Chicken, it just won't be the same.
I'm a little burned out on animated series, but I just have to give Sit Down, Shut Up a chance. Any show from the creator of "Arrested Development" that re-unites some of my favorite AD cast members is worth watching.
And as a Joss Whedon fanboy, I'm required to view Dollhouse...and am also required to prepare for Fox to cancel it after one season. Can you blame me if Firefly left me just a little cynical?

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
My life is going to be SO much easier when I completely avoid this show. I won't have any answers, but ALSO, I won't know what the questions are in the first place! Bliss.

I would say that if you expect it to last a whole season that you're being overly optimistic.
Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you... The preview for Dollhouse shown at the upfronts got posted on YouTube:
Couldn't be more stoked for this. I'm wary just like the rest of you for the obvious reasons, but this already looks like appointment TV for me. (Hopefully, it will be for lots of others, too.)
smark/net attack Advisory System Status is: Elevated (Holds; June 18, 2006) While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.
What I'm wondering about is if they're gonna replace Summer Glau in Terminator with some busty blonde. She has a nerd following, but they have the option thanks to how they ended season one of 'reskinning' her with someone more mainstream-friendly (see also: giant rack). If they do that it's an instant shark jump, though.
Speaking of emotionless killing machine girls created by Joss Whedon -- hey, look, Dollhouse. Definitely on my must-watch list, for as long as it lasts.

Yeah, it's always nice to see him stretch himself creatively. I would pay good money for him to tell me a story that isn't just a variant on the same story he's been telling me for the last decade or so.

I got to meet Maria Bamford after I saw her stand-up when she was in the area last month and she is an amazing performer (to me) and a more amazing person. I even convinced her that my name was Ciderbarrel and she signed a CD to me (which I need to take a pic of):
Cider -- I'm changing my name to Spritzer -- Maria.
Kinda bummed to see "Back to You" and "Unhitched" get the ax (although I'm probably the only one) ... at least "Til Death" is coming back (and wasn't the season before this past one supposed to be the last for "King of the Hill"? Not that I'm complaining).
It was better than the pilot, I'll grant, but I decided to bail on the series. Even when it kind-of works, it's just not the kind of world I want to spend time in, and there's too much else on TV. Well, that's a different issue.
